Now watching Eternals and rewatching Shang-Chi. The soul devourer monster in Shang-Chi reminded me of a deviant but evolved. When Bruce said these rings were here maybe way over 1000 years, that a hint of the Eternals being here. Since now we know Eternals been here for over 7000 years. 10 rings, 10 Eternals. A lot of connections with Eternals and Shang-Chi
A'lars is thanos father in the comics same as the mcu (red skull confirmed this in IW) in the comics he found a way for them to have kids and due to it being an experiement thanos had a deviant gene making him look like that while eros looked like a normal eternal i think its gonna be the same in the mcu.

I loved Eternals. I loved that for the first time in the MCU the heroes of a film weren't 100% sure they were doing the right thing and that they were wrestling with their decisions. I couldn't stand that in Civil War neither Tony nor Steve ever stopped and wondered whether they were right or not. They were so sure they were right that they were willing to split up the Avengers. Even afterwards, neither had a moment where they were pondering if it was worth it or not. Imagine that these beings who inspired the ancient Godly myths turned out to be more human than the other humans in the MCU. 🤷🏽♂️ I thought it was brilliant.
The Eternals, mainly AJax, were fine with Thanos snapped away half the planet because it delayed the emergence. That's why AJax might have not instructed the Eternals to intervene.
@@The810kid That is my point. AJax could of easily got everyone back together when Thanos was trying to collect the stones. She could of made up something to get the other Eternals to stop Thanos.
I just love that 6 years from now all these people hating everything about the movie will gladly embrace the mew wave of hype train when the next avengers movie is solely based on the events that happend in the movie. Literally everyone hates it but will make a complete 180 when the celestials end up being the big bad.
Something that no one brought up in their comments that maybe even John overlooked is that the Deviants (which were created by the Celestials) were able to evolve. This was first seen when they switched from just hunting animals to humans who had become the “Apex predators.” They even define this at the beginning of the film and their further evolution is mirrored by not only the prime deviant but by Sersi as well. John asked the question “how can the deviants take power from the Eternals when they’re seemingly synthetic beings.” The answer to this is obvious to anyone who watches a lot of anime or sci fi but the most obvious comparison would clearly be Cell and Androids 17 and 18 from Dragonball Z. These are creatures created by the same being that seem to be based around a cybernetic core with humanoid bits here and there that are capable of forcefully merging into a new being. And so while I was curious how a Deviant could somehow steal the power of an Eternal it actually made a LOT more sense when it was revealed that the Celestials created them. I also find it quite interesting that a being as powerful as Arisham didn’t simply swipe the Deviants out of existence once their programming changed…until I realized that they were left as a reason for the Eternals to willingly stay on these worlds and fight for them. It’s a very Matrix-like twist where you get the feeling that if all Eternals were simply told the truth with no strong enemy to fight then they would rebel against the program but given a seemingly noble purpose to their existence they gladly soldiered on until the end in their ignorance. Finally, there’s the question of the Deviants themselves. Were there really so many Deviants in existence on Earth that it took the Eternals thousands of years to wipe them out? Were they somehow able to reproduce to continue their struggle against the Eternals or were their numbers being replenished more directly by the Celestials who created them in the first place? The prime deviant hinted at them being forced to repeat the same cycle as the Eternals after he killed Gilgamesh so I’m not really sure. Honestly, I have so many questions about all of this that I’ve just bought a ticket to go see the film again tomorrow.
Great comment. I have the same questions as you to be honest. The Eternals were in fact wiped out and one point so how did they come back? Anyway I really enjoyed this film and to be honest, it is my all time favourite MCU film along with Shang Chi.
I started to wanna cry when he couldn't kill sersi and fell to the ground seeing his life work fall apart his emotional range was masterfull then he flew like the legend to close to the sun, ended so poetically and i continued to cry when seesi told sprite ahe couod help her grow up, fucking masterful movie.
Exactly. Vision is a fancy robot. He can’t eat or bleed. Eternals can. Druig is eating constantly and their wounds visibly bleed. Synthetic but with biological functions.
@@LemonGoofball I feel like Sprite is gonna be one of the most controversial elements of this movie once the immediate reactions all wear off a few months down the line, but I for one find them fascinating.
@@ThePonderer oh I know they had a 'logic' 'for why she could do it, just seemed a bit random and a bit too convenient. But good for the character of Sprite
They have pulled off superspeed knockdowns before in other media, especially in Japan (Kamen Rider comes to mind). Though they are lower budget, it does make for something that creates the illusion of real speed while still being able to shoot it. Makkari's fight scenes are notable in that it is one of the very few times western cinema has carried through on it in order to convey what speed is like from our perspective.
John, I think your Thanos theory is off. The Celestials work at a snail’s pace - thousands of years planning and executing a single plan, whereas Thanos executed the final parts of his plan in a couple of days. You’re thinking of time and elapsed time in human terms. 500 years in Eternals time isn’t that long, several weeks is a blink, centuries is akin to a few months. To your deviants point, yes, they are canon fodder. Not the antagonists but the henchmen of the antagonists (Celestials). Eternals is definitely in my top 10 MCU movies already. IMHO it’s way better than Shang Chi (great as that was) and I think my subsequent viewings will only put this movie higher up my list. I’m betting that once Phase 4’s scope becomes clearer the audience will start appreciating Eternals more.
John by the time Thanos came around the first time, Ajak was already against the emergence and the Eternals were “disbanded”. Sure they could’ve helped the second time but remember that in both movies the events happened extremely quick. Ajak had no way of getting all the Eternals together in time.
I did find it weird how none of them met up with each other in between all that time especially Druig & Mikari. Or maybe they did but we just don't know? 🤔
I wasn’t impressed by the trailers and had little excitement for this outside of it being an MCU film…but absolutely loved the film. It’s in my top 10 MCU films.
Im literally convinced if this didn't have the marvel label chloe zhao would have another Oscar nomination for best picture. But because this is part of the mcu everyone wants to find something to shit on it.
I knew this plot existed in the comics. There was a whole miniseries in the 90s that was centered around the Celestial emergence. But I assumed the emergence would be the post credit stinger, it would be this "WTF" moment AFTER the movie ended, a thing to coalesce around for the future. I didn't imagine they could wrap up something this big in a single film.
So do we actually think Ikras is dead ? I kind of interpreted as him not wanting to live the the memories of what he did so he flew into the sun knowing he will be remade with a blank slate
I JUST SAW THIS MOVIE AND I LOVED IT. LOOVED IT. IT DIDNT FEEL LONG IT WASNT BORING. I fucking loved it and if ppl didnt like it bc its boring. SMH. its top for me. I will watch it again. Makkari is my girl..she went after ikaris. And the way she fought him I was like daaaaaamn. talk about a 50 punch combo. Dont come for her man! I wish there were eternals that stook around longer for real. I hope they come back. But anyways it was great.also VISUALLY WAS BY FAR THE BEST. beautiful! the only marvel film that made me actually want to know more about the characters and the universe. Like I want to read the comic for eternals is saying a lot!
I know right? I thought what they did with Kingo was actually bold and brilliant. You don't always have to force someone into a fight scene. Story & character should always come first.
I think the whole "eternals are artificial, deviants are biological" thing is misunderstood. The Celestials, who appear artificial, created everything: Eternals, Deviants, planets, animals, etc. They're all artificial, and all biological.
John did you pay close attention when you watched Eternals, the deviants are not the villains of the movie, actually they are closer to the victims. Arishem explains everything to sersi, on top of that Chloe has even said the movie doesn't have a villian.
He also said Gamora was daughter of Thanos, implying that he did not necessarily mean biologically. I think we’re going to learn Thanos was an Eternal of Titan like Ajak’s team is of Earth. I think Red Skull would say Sersi is daughter of Ajak. And in that respect, I think Eros and Thanos are brothers just as Druig and Ikaris are brothers in the MCU
This film was amazing - it’s not often we get any mainstream film tackling deeper themes if Morality, theology and mortality - I just loved it - it’s a throwback to grand science fiction films like 2001 and Blade Runner Remarkable film
Why doesn't Chloe Zhao have a Twitter account? I want to bother her everyday about releasing an extended cut!!! I love the movie but agree an additional 20-30 minutes of characters development would make this movie even better.
They never said Arishem continued to plant deviants on worlds I think that the deviants went out of control and it’s suggested they SPREAD throughout the galaxy as they went out of control so Arishem didn’t keep using them, they spread against his wishes.
something that made no sense to me was when Ajak said that because Thanos wiped away have the population, he in turn delayed the Emergence, why wouldn't the Eternals step in, stop Thanos and prevent the snap so the Emergence wouldn't be delayed, I know Arishem told them not to intervene, but that seems like one Affair they should've been involved in
Remember that Ajak was already not on board with the destruction of the planet so she might have been actually happy that Thanos delayed the emergence. The Celestials live for billions of years and if they can wait 7000+ years for one of their kind to be born, I doubt they'll be concerned about Thanos delaying that a bit
Up front, you’re right about Makkari. She’s my second favorite next to Phestus. I have a few small thoughts though that are a bit different from yours. For example, I felt like the Deviants provided a little more than just cool cannon-fodder, because they also provided a decent reason for the Eternals to not interfere in human affairs. I mean, yeah it doesn’t make sense that they didn’t fight Thanos, but then again, Thanos was neither a Deviant, nor was he a defecting Eternal (and besides, maybe Aryshim could just see into the future, or could otherwise sense that the snap would be undone?) In regard to the Eternals being cybernetic, the term “Cyborg” is an abbreviation of “Cybernetic Organism.” Living machines. The Eternals are neither cybernetic nor organic; they are Gods that were designed to be beyond both. That’s why we heard Kingo tell the camera that being an Eternal doesn’t make you exempt from feeling emotions. Speaking of feelings, the reason Aryshim gave them different powers, makes them look different, gives them free-will and so-on? Well to me, that can all be explained by the fact the Aryshim isn’t just a judge, he’s also an artist. Notice how NONE of his creations are lacking in color, vibrancy, or other forms of inefficiency? It’s because Aryshim isn’t supposed to be seen as being 100% efficient. Heck, he wasn’t even supposed to be seen as being totally omnipotent, because that’s how he was able to screw up with the Deviants in the first place. That also explains why some Eternals are made while others are allowed to be born, because it is the will of Aryshim, and Aryshim is a semi-random God. I still think they’re going to say that Eros is Thanos’s blood brother because I’ve seen no reason to believe that Eternals can’t reproduce (I mean, they do smash after all 😏) What I wanna know is how do the Celestials react to time travel? Do they travel back with everyone else? Do they know they’ve time-traveled? What’s going on there? Anyway, there’s my highly subjective 2-cents!
I think now after the movie the eternals don't have contact with eternals from other planets i feel was the secret that the titans eternals kept hidden and he did say his planet was destroyed so it was kinda like superman but with a villain was sent away and he just became more evil than good
After seeing it and thinking about it, I really feel they should have had this story as two movies. The first movie taking place totally in the past with the different time periods showing how the Eternals viewed themselves evolving from beings pretending to be gods to the growing attachment to humanity and becoming more at odds with each other and non interference in human affairs. The superhero part with the Deviants could be built upon more with them becoming more human like by the end and the big fight to defeat the Deviants finishing out the movie but the Eternals part ways as well. The second movie could have taken place totally in the present with some flashbacks, but would be them dealing with the Emergence. Maybe it's dealing more with the concern that Earth is going through more natural disasters, instead of Deviants. Those that have been living and love humanity are now taking a bigger role in saving them, while trying to put the band back together. Everything plays out the way it did and the development that we got from the first movie could have had much more impact at the deaths and betrayals.
I think Sersi's ability to kill an Eternal was a one off. She was connected to Tiamut and the hive mind to have enough power to do it. In the end she said she sitll had enough power to make Sprite human.
I'm thinking maybe Eros and Thanos were both Eternals on Titan. The brother part makes sense considering the Earth Eternals consider themselves family, so why wouldn't the Titan ones?
Have you never heard of cables transferring data? This is a sci-fi movie man, why is a character absorbing another character’s powers such a difficult concept for you to grasp…?
If Richard Madden doesn't come back, what a waste. He is a great actor. It's such a nuanced performance, but I'm just SO upset he won't be in more films.
Deviant tentacles = usb cables. Thanos attacking earth or snapping away ½ the life in the universe doesnt involve deviants. Their objective is only when deviants are involved. My question is if Starfox is an eternal and brother of Thanos, doesnt that make him an eternal?
Technically Thanos is an eternal but an abomination with messed up blood so that’s why he looks like that. So Eros, yes is also an Eternal. I think. That’s just what I got so.. yeah
Not every character death is for the audience to feel emotional. Ajak's death was only an event to move the plot forward. In Eternals 2 if Makkari dies, then you should probably feel emotional. And if you don't, then they probably did something wrong.
Not only does Thanos directly affect their true mission with his life ending quest, but we now know they actually did go the comic book route with Eros, who introduces himself as an Eternal and Thanos' brother. If they follow that through like the comics, then Thanos IS A DEVIANT. He checks the boxes of both their official mission AND their true mission. They done fucked up.
Starfox (Aros) and Thanos are actual brothers by the same parents. Thanos just had a deviant gene and that is why he ended up looking as he did. Their grandfather is a celestial in the comics.
Im bummed I missed this spoiler discussion, but I had a family thing that will become a memory and couldn't pass up a role that was literally mine to play ❤🤙🤘🤟 But,i did want to post my opinion about this movie because you (John) or a member of your community are the only ones who will understand or be able to decipher it. I didn't have an issue with the Deviants because Ikaris was the real antagonist. If Deviants were more than what they were, they might take away from Ikaris. They were fine for their purposes. Although I'm not saying there's no way to make them even better. There probably are ways to enhance them without taking away from Ikaris. The problem with today’s audience that despite their complaints & bitching that all Art now are the same (i.e. music, TV, movies, theatre, etc.) …the Truth is THEY DON’T WANT TO BE CHALLENGED. They REALLY want is the SAME-O, SAME-O.
THEY REFUSE TO GET OUT OF THEIR “COMFORT ZONE”.
BUT that’s what Art does…good or bad. IT CHALLENGES YOU.
It should challenge your Senses, your Perspectives, your Points Of View, your Belief System, your Idea or Notion of where you think your place is in the Universe.
That’s the BEAUTY of Art , whether you agree with it or not.
Couldn’t agree more.

Just came back from the theater... And this is how it me: Wow...
Just got out seeing eternals easily one of the top MCU films including: winter soldier, civil war, black panther, shang chi, infinity war, endgame,
Thank you my opinion also i feel its number 6 or 7 behond or in front of black panther
Makkari and her fight scenes with ikaris got me going back for a 3rd watch
A'lars is thanos father in the comics same as the mcu (red skull confirmed this in IW) in the comics he found a way for them to have kids and due to it being an experiement thanos had a deviant gene making him look like that while eros looked like a normal eternal i think its gonna be the same in the mcu.
If they do a sequel would be interesting to explore the eternals more emotional side and their history as a whole feel like it would benefit this franchise. Cause it was a good movie and interesting concept but does need more
@@KrSwag51 i totally agree they did the their best to juggle 10 new characters set up history and a threat in just under 3h a sequel is very much needed.
They were long split up before the snap only Ajax and Ikaris knew of the Emergence before the movie.
I'm just hoping they do justice to Galactus (if he's ever going to be involved in the MCU)

Cersei (GoT) or Sersi (Eternals)
I cried when Ikarus flew into the sun. It’s one of my favorite moments in the movie.
The fact that eternals are "artificial" doesn't mean they are cybernetic, they could be bioengineered or something like that
That's what I think as well. Robots is definitely not what they are
I thought they were more like David in Prometheus. Kinda in a sense.
Exactly. Vision is a fancy robot. He can’t eat or bleed. Eternals can. Druig is eating constantly and their wounds visibly bleed. Synthetic but with biological functions.
I adore this movie. Cannot WAIT to see it again, and it might just straight up be one of my new favorite movies.
its a masterpiece. I can't wait to see more of these characters, I especially loved Sprite
@@LemonGoofball I feel like Sprite is gonna be one of the most controversial elements of this movie once the immediate reactions all wear off a few months down the line, but I for one find them fascinating.
@@ThePonderer only thing that annoyed me about sprite was how sersi just so happened to randomly be able to turn he human lol
@@Mb-zu6on eh, she’s got residual god powers by the end basically.
Really enjoyed Eternals! I wouldn't mind seeing Black Knight get his own Disney+ show to help further launch him into the MCU
Yes. Makari had the most visually stunning power. Hell yeah.
Saw it Friday Morning and I Enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Ajak gives Logan healing factor and Cersei turns his bones into Adamantium. Wolverine Confirmed.
I already enjoyed the movie. But watching this makes me wanna see it again
Gotta be honest this was my favorite mcu movie since infinity war
"How are you still so hot in your 50's" 😂
Druig and Makkari OTP
John by the time Thanos came around the first time, Ajak was already against the emergence and the Eternals were “disbanded”. Sure they could’ve helped the second time but remember that in both movies the events happened extremely quick. Ajak had no way of getting all the Eternals together in time.
I did find it weird how none of them met up with each other in between all that time especially Druig & Mikari. Or maybe they did but we just don't know? 🤔
1:12:04 someone needs to do a compilation of all of John’s singing clips. This and the all the stars cover need to be on it
I wasn’t impressed by the trailers and had little excitement for this outside of it being an MCU film…but absolutely loved the film.
Galactus walking down the street. 🤣
Saw it on Saturday and loved it
"How are you still hot in your 50's?" 😂🤣
People seemed to be the antagonist
In Infinity War, Red Skull referred to Thanos as the “son of Alars”, who is Eros’ father in the comics, who is an Eternal
This film was amazing - it’s not often we get any mainstream film tackling deeper themes if Morality, theology and mortality - I just loved it - it’s a throwback to grand science fiction films like 2001 and Blade Runner
Remarkable film
I want more Ikaris, Sprite gets too much hate imo. I felt for her
If you're Galactus and see Sersi walkin' by, best get to steppin'. 🙂
Thanos is an eternal with an active deviant gene, he was born from 2 eternals
Just saw eternals love the movie too many haters
John being a Drukkari shipper has watered my crops.💕
Drukkari is best. They are so precious
Why doesn't Chloe Zhao have a Twitter account? I want to bother her everyday about releasing an extended cut!!! I love the movie but agree an additional 20-30 minutes of characters development would make this movie even better.
The movie really hit the right marks with me , I don’t know why , but I can rewatch it again and again , and I still love it .
I mean, yeah it doesn’t make sense that they didn’t fight Thanos, but then again, Thanos was neither a Deviant, nor was he a defecting Eternal (and besides, maybe Aryshim could just see into the future, or could otherwise sense that the snap would be undone?)
In regard to the Eternals being cybernetic, the term “Cyborg” is an abbreviation of “Cybernetic Organism.” Living machines.
I still think they’re going to say that Eros is Thanos’s blood brother because I’ve seen no reason to believe that Eternals can’t reproduce (I mean, they do smash after all 😏)
What I wanna know is how do the Celestials react to time travel? Do they travel back with everyone else? Do they know they’ve time-traveled? What’s going on there?
Anyway, there’s my highly subjective 2-cents!
Maybe Arishem lied. The Eternals were only modified. The ones on Titan figured this out. Eros is about to let them know.
This film is so underrated it’s not even funny
Javert literally would have never crossed my mind but that comparison is spot on.
Kingo also directs some things too...On the internet.
I'm thinking maybe Eros and Thanos were both Eternals on Titan. The brother part makes sense considering the Earth Eternals consider themselves family, so why wouldn't the Titan ones?
My days off work are Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I always miss these live but I'll be back to watch after I see it
Richard Madden looks way too much like Sebastian Stan to be in the same movie universe. They look so much alike it was almost distracting
Ikaris easily was my favorite but Frausto is underrated.
I liked sprite the most. Icarus obviously was awesome AF. So confident and his smolder is something of mastery
Have you never heard of cables transferring data? This is a sci-fi movie man, why is a character absorbing another character’s powers such a difficult concept for you to grasp…?
Is Ikaris gonna come back?
If Richard Madden doesn't come back, what a waste. He is a great actor. It's such a nuanced performance, but I'm just SO upset he won't be in more films.
Imagine a scene with Tony and Phastos hanging out, building cool stuff together.
I think. That’s just what I got so.. yeah
I'm not so sure that Icarus died in the end. It wasn't very clear that the sun was powerful enough to kill him
I wish Eternals 2 comes out soon ..... But I guess I'll have to wait at least 2-3 more years. 😫
Not every character death is for the audience to feel emotional. Ajak's death was only an event to move the plot forward. In Eternals 2 if Makkari dies, then you should probably feel emotional. And if you don't, then they probably did something wrong.
1:03:43
Not only does Thanos directly affect their true mission with his life ending quest, but we now know they actually did go the comic book route with Eros, who introduces himself as an Eternal and Thanos' brother. If they follow that through like the comics, then Thanos IS A DEVIANT.
He checks the boxes of both their official mission AND their true mission.
They done fucked up.
Ikarus was pretty cold blooded 🔥
Starfox (Aros) and Thanos are actual brothers by the same parents. Thanos just had a deviant gene and that is why he ended up looking as he did. Their grandfather is a celestial in the comics.
The movie was so good..it's so interesting , I enjoyed it..
Anybody notice that Ikarus seemed to be hitting on Thena before settling for Sersi?
Im bummed I missed this spoiler discussion, but I had a family thing that will become a memory and couldn't pass up a role that was literally mine to play ❤🤙🤘🤟
But,i did want to post my opinion about this movie because you (John) or a member of your community are the only ones who will understand or be able to decipher it.
I think Kevin Feige was 100% correct...Eternals is the BEST movie ever made by marvel.
NOT the most entertaining, Not as enjoyable as most,
Not as satisfying as a piece of Marvel's evolution, design,or direction.
BUT TAKING THE WHOLE AS A SUM OF ITS PARTS AND EVALUATING IT AS SO .....THE BEST MOVIE MARVEL HAS MADE. (And I say that without it making even my top 15 of MCU films.)
Thanks for listening
Most MCU movies are not very good. This is easily my top 3. The Deviants is not the main villain.
Druid’s accent is Dublin
Saw it yesterday, awesome...
Just that I am OK with the way they were handled in the movie as they are.
