  • A bright yellow object on a main road through Bountiful, Utah captured a lot of attention.
    The structure is an emergency shelter meant to be buried underground, but one company put the massive, bright yellow product on display in a parking lot.
    Todd Tanner takes a look at the cozy refuge in this edition of Uniquely Utah.

    In 2018 when this aired, it was done with a hint of tongue in cheek and a dose of sarcasm. Funny, nobody seems to be laughing at the "preppers" anymore.

      I wouldn’t recommend relying on someone who has it. Because once something happens, that person’s true colors will emerge and it might not be pretty.

      You can’t depend on anyone other than yourself and your immediate family. Even if you did know someone, you’ll need to get there, likely without any power or running vehicles (vehicles that are pre 80s MIGHT work). By the time you reach your destination, you’ll likely have walked through fallout if you’re within 50 miles of any military base or major population center. They won’t let you in. You could get everyone else sick. You’d be a safety hazard.
      If you don’t have a shelter, you’d better have a basement, and a little bit of time. Cover all windows and vents with as much soil, brick, or concrete/foundations blocks as you possibly can. Not just the windows, cover all of it as best as possible. Put as much between you and the outside as possible. Also have 3 months of freeze dried food, enough water for a gallon per day, iodine tablets, hand crank radio, and a gas mask for when it’s relatively safe to come outside. Being physically fit won’t hurt either, as well as having a bicycle that’s been covered up. People that don’t prepare, they’re just being irresponsible, no matter where they’re located.

      Honestly dude, even if I told you that you could stay in my bunker if you helped with all the costs..when it comes down to it and your literally radioactive from travelling to me, or there is too much chaos to open the doors, or if there is a some kind of biological threat, you’re not getting in. I would not risk my family’s life to have anybody who I don’t know and love like immediate family. There’s no telling that you won’t lose your marbles and hurt myself or my family. Plus, my family survives a significant amount longer if I only have to feed them. This is coming from someone on the same position as you. I think it’s safe to assume that the worst will come out of most humanity in an end of civilization/world scenario. As soon as I have my own property the first thing I’m doing before any work on the house is constructing my own shelter, or splitting the cost with a multiple close family members. All the best brother.

      You’re probably spot on. Rising S Bunkers (who isn’t nearly as reputable) sells a 10x20 for $80k, and that’s prior to delivery and installation. When I contacted them and gave them my zip code, that would have been an additional $40k. That does come with an NBC air filtration system, toilet and shower tapped into the existing septic, and solar panels and a battery bank. That would also include connecting to city power, a diesel generator if you have one, and a water storage tank buried next to the bunker (you’re responsible for the generator and storage tank). Any Home Depot or Lowe’s has a 2,500 gallon tank for well under $2k, and as for a generator, you get what you pay for. I’d probably opt for an older diesel with the least amount of electronics as possible, just in case of EMPs.
      I may look into going smaller. That would cut a big chunk off of the cost of the shelter, and also delivery. Rising S has an 8x12 economy shelter for $50k, and Atlas sells an even smaller one for $20k, but neither include the delivery and installation. I don’t believe the Atlas shelter for $20k includes the door, or NBC filtration either, but I could be wrong.
      So yes, they are expensive, unless you’re not one to get claustrophobic. I need a bit of space, primarily for entertainment. I’m seriously considering investing into one of these. I’m only 68 miles away from the nearest military base, and 77 miles away from the nearest city. Blast won’t affect me, but fallout would depending on the wind pattern. Best case scenario: 3 days underground. Worst case scenario: ?

      @@SpencerBrown777sure, bunkers made by this company. You don’t need to be wealthy to do some of your own engineering and concrete pouring. It makes me consider how I can afford to do keep my family alive on my own. You can sit there and cry about how you’re behind in the world and can’t afford anything, or you can go out and make it happen. Be that through your own work, contracted work, or work donated by close friends and family. Why should someone hurt themselves and their own pocket to help you survive the end of the world when you don’t even have the mind set to help yourself survive it? Also, what benefit do you provide to a future society with that mindset? Hint: You don’t… instead of building a new world your gonna want it built for you for free because “you deserve it”

    Atlas is one of the best. Don't use anyone else unless they have the same equipment and air systems.

      This was years ago. The one in this video would be 1.5 times the price now, if not more. The cheapest one you can get is 20k, but that doesn’t include delivery and installation, and it’s really tiny. Almost like living inside of a large septic tank. Seriously, to have an even half way decent semi comfortable underground bomb shelter, you need something the size of a small shipping container, and you’re looking at spending at least $75k after all is said and done. Unless you have a whole lot of experience and a whole lot of help. You could build your own, but even with experience, it won’t last nearly as long or be as safe as someone that builds these for a living.

    • @JT-mo2dp
      @JT-mo2dp 7 днів тому

      You can get smaller, cheaper ones, but you're probably looking at around 40k for one with a single small room with just enough space to lay down.

      Have you shopped around yet? This was 5 years ago. I have a hard time believing this particular model was $30k even back then. If you go with a far less reputable company, it’s going to cost at least $80k, and that’s prior to delivery and installation. Gave them my zip code, and a 10x20 with nbc air filtration, toilet and showers hooked up to the septic, water storage, and solar panels and a battery bank, it’s going to cost $120k.

      @kanikuri9019 3 роки тому +11

      it is not supposed to survive a nuclear blast. it is a "Emergency" shelter, not a "nuclear" shelter. a proper nuclear shelter needs 9 ft thick concrete walls, and needs to be (at least) 20 ft underground. this is for natural disasters, fires, and maybe a zombie apocalypse. also, the storage space is not enough for a nuclear winter.

      Not in a direct blast radius but a couple rings out might do it. It is supposed to be under ground. Most the trouble happens above ground and wipes the map clean houses off their foundations but most the foundations are left behind
