Do you think I did this just to sell or to help people who actually own the unit?
The links are so people know what to buy.
Love it. Nice to show you don't have to loose wattage by using propane to fuel your generator.
Thank Roy, and yes I was hoping for same output which is did get. 1650 is about all this will put out, AC or DC. So still was consistent with those numbers which I was glad. Now you can run onboard RV tanks 😁😉👊🏼
@@johnnysweekends smart use of Technolgy everyone should be doing it instead of paying these large corporations' money yearly we could save it reinvest that into our families and into communities instead of making the wealthy ultra-wealthy
@@johnnysweekends I been looking into the free energy concept and boy oh boy that's makes me start thinking and drawing up Nikola Telsa like plans and calculations for how to get unlimited energy everything is energy even the paper money which is not real if they can print as much as they want to us and call it legal but nonetheless it something any conscious person would consider and try to accomplish in their free time
The free energy idea is great but I order for it to produce the amount to live on is tough. Unless you are single and a minimalist. Which unfortunately I have other mouths to feed 😂
Glad I saw your post/video about the gas vs dual fuel Smart Gen... Your videos are very clear and thorough. Thanks!
Great job man!! I bought a similar kit from Century Fuel Products and it allows me to also run on natural gas for my Yamaha EF300iSEB. The regulator looks the same so you should be able to run natural gas also although you may have to adjust the spark plugs gap and the regulator screw/nut slightly. I currently have one EcoFlow Smart Generator like you converted and I have an EcoFlow Dual Fuel Smart Generator on the way. Nice to know I can convert my original EF SG also.
Yes this kit is also a tri fuel kit. But yes like mentioned you’ll need the NG hose and pos changing the plug gap if you have running issues. And of course adjusting the load screw since the btu on NG is so much less
And yes new dual fuel smart gens are on the way.
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching
👍🏼😀
Great job Johnny!😉👍
Because you have such a long line from the load block to the generator, you need to make a small change and wait for a bit to determine if you need to move it further. There is a time delay with the long hose.
It’s already set and running great. You can see in the video it ran full rpm and wattage and started and stopped like normal.
You only need a couple seconds with propane as with fuel and a float vibrating like crazy can cause erratic running for a few seconds.
thanks so much! this is the exact setup i’ve been wanting!
Glad I could help. This gives a option for those who already have this now. 😀👍🏼
Hah, when I saw this before I started watching I thought it was a joke, because all I've ever seen from Ecoflow were their solar generators. I was like "WTF is this guy hooking up propane to a battery for...?"
I had no idea they actually made a ICE generator.
Lol 😂 yes they do.
It’s kinda a cool feature but not with out its flaws, but like with most things nothings perfect.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching 👍🏼👊🏼😀
I never knew eco-flow made a generator when I first clicked on a video I thought it was a joke Seems like a nice generator though I’ve already got one but I wouldn’t mind having that
Yes they make the smart Gen as part of the ECOFLOW ecosystem.
It’s pretty cool 👍🏼😀
Awesome video! Do you need to make adjustments or use any different parts to burn natural gas? Depending on the property I’m at, I have either natural gas or propane available. I’m sure you still have to use the load regulator in either case, but is it just as simple as replacing the propane bottle with a hose that runs directly to the gas meter in the backyard?
No NG requires a different house connector but can be found at hardware stores.
3/8th flare to the load regulator and the the proper fitting to your NG connection.
Then a small adjustment may need to be made on the load block
OUTSTANDING! Do you know if it will pull from an AUX fuel tank? I have one on my Honda and it's great to use to run overnight when camping.
thanks for the great clip.. is it possible to connect it to Natural gas line? if so, can you make a video clip.. thanks a lot
Did you ever make a followup video for nat gas?
I did not. I upgraded to the dual fuel model now and recently got rid of the gas model to someone who needed it
This video is perfect timing for me! I just ordered one from Costco, they have them on sale for $900 until 10/23/2022. I was debating on whether or not I should be waiting for the official EcoFlow model with dual fuel built in... but now that I see it's easy to add aftermarket myself that changes things. I don't have any regrets purchasing the "original gasoline only version" now that I've seen your video which is much appreciated!
Do you know if that kit can run the EcoFlow Smart Generator on natural gas as well and how well it runs? I was curious about that option as well in the event there is a power outage in the area from an ice storm or something but yet natural gas was still flowing that might be a good option to avoid having to risk traveling dangerous road conditions to swap out propane tanks or top off on gas.
Awesome glad you found the video..😀👍🏼
And yes this kit is meant for tri fuel! But obviously you need the NG set up. So maybe I can do a updated video in a couple weeks. Although I don’t really plan on NG but I know people have been asking 😀👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends Yeah that'd be a nice to have for sure, especially for prolonged outages or just avoid having to refill with gas or swap to a new propane tank.
I'm thinking if I were to dabble with the NG option it'd be a bit down the road since I would need to figure out plumbing into the NG lines at the house for an outdoor hookup. Alternatively some extra long extension hose to connect onto an existing NG hookup like the stove and run it outside but that seems pretty sketchy and impractical.
The other modification that I'm thinking about is splicing into the "extra battery cable" that connects the Smart Generator to the Delta Pro so that I can make one long enough to go from my detached garage 30-40 feet away to my house. I really wish they sold a longer cable since you basically need the Delta Pro and the Smart Generator to be right next to each other for the auto start and DC charging to work. My crazy idea is to basically cut the cable in half and just splice in some quality 8 AWG or thicker wire for the large DC positive and negative cables to the length I need. There's also the data pins in that connector for telling the generator to start/stop but I work in IT so I have a spool of CAT6 Ethernet network cable that has 8 wires I could use to splice into those. The end product would probably be ugly, but I can't see why that wouldn't work and be safe since it'd be a straight pass through to extend the factory cable.
There are a few reasons I would want to do this:
Allows me to keep the Smart Generator safely stored in the detached garage to avoid theft and limit the noise when running. I would vent the exhaust outside (with your muffler extension mod from a previous video) since otherwise the CO detect would trip.
Allows me to keep the Delta Pro in the house where it's climate controlled, prevents dust from getting into the inverter electronics, etc
Climate controlled is important too, charging LFP batteries below freezing is bad news. That's a very likely situation for me in Michigan. My odds of having a power outage in winter is much higher than any other time of year.
So that'd force me to do the following with the factory cable:
Situation A: Have the Smart Generator and Delta Pro in the detached garage together and hope that the Delta Pro doesn't get too cold. Run a power cable from the AC output of the Delta Pro to the house.
Situation B: Use the Delta Pro inside the house and just run the factory cable outside as far as I could into the back yard. That means the Smart Generator would be just chilling in the back yard exposed to the weather, potential theft, and although it's quieter than some generators would be.. it'd be louder than running it inside of the garage like I'd like to do.
Anyway, sorry for everyone to read that giant wall of text. Hopefully you get what I'm trying to say here. If you read this far, thanks for coming to my TED Talk. 😆
Lol yea I read it.
Yes a longer cable would be nice and seems you have the ability to do it. I thought about but the data cable inside I’m sure isn’t anything to crazy but I decided I don’t wanna mess with it.
But yes the pro needs to be somewhere warm and not outside in the freaking temps. One thing I don’t like about the smart Gen is the start up. Even at the lowest load of 1000 watts it goes from zero to about 70% throttle with no warm up or nothing.
I think this will prematurely wear this unit out. Hopefully not but will see since it’s only been out a year and I don’t know how many hours people have on these units yet.
@@johnnysweekends That premature wear due to no warmup time makes sense. I wonder if that's something they could patch in an update to add an optional delay after startup before the DC output started providing power. 🤔
For now I'll keep that in mind and have it dialed back to the 1,000 watts mode. Thanks for bringing that up, I never would have thought about that side of things.
Yea I have mentioned it before will see what happens. I don’t know if they can do a update on existing or not. May be more in the electronics then just firmware. Not sure on that part but yea start up on 1000 then ramp up after a couple mins of ya need.
Facinating video. It almost looks as if the rate of gas consumption is going to be constant irrespective of load ?
Yea I don’t think it will fluctuate to much because lowest it will charge is 1000 watts which seems to bring the throttle to around 60% or so, no way to just slow charge.
I have 2 smart generators. Do you think I could split the flow where you have the long tubing and feed 2 generators from one regulator?
Hmm I’m not a hundred percent sure. I do know that load regulator is the same one for the Honda 3000 I have it on and also bigger 4500 units and more.
So I bet the load regulator can handle the double flow but I don’t know how it would do back and forth on the load adjustment screw.
As both are running say 80% steady and you adjust for it I’m sure it will be fine. But what if one shuts off will the flow from the load screw now be to much?
It would have to be tested I guess.
Might want to check if your pipe thread sealant is gas safe. Not a huge deal since it’s going to be outside. Gasoila is a brand and also there are gas safe Teflon tapes (usually yellow).
The kit does come with tape, but the TFE paste is good for LPG NG and more ..😀👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends OK. Just checking. I know normal Teflon tape and pipe dope aren’t.
This is so helpful! Thanks. I have similar kit but could never get it to work on my 2000w Wen generator. Could you please provide us the model of this generator? TIA!
That’s the smart generator from ECOFLOW it’s meant to plug into the ecoflow units but can be used as a stand alone but it’s not very good for that. So if you don’t own any ECOFLOW products I would look into something else.
But can find info and discounts here

@@johnnysweekends Your right that it is not very good as a stand alone generator. It runs much faster RPMs than any other generator so it will wear out much faster. I have two delta pros with the dual voltage hub. This configuration shuts off all AC ports, both output and input. I have a 3500w inverter dual fuel generator with remote start but it's almost useless because I can't charge via AC. I am thinking of buying the ecoflow generator cable and hacking it to work with my generator which would make a great video for you to do.
I’m debating on buying eco flow pro battery and generator, or just sticking with my Westinghouse 4500 duel fuel and must of the time it will be used for camping . Whey you think ?
I have the pro and use it for camping verses rewiring for inverters and more. Just plug into inside storage compartment cord and whole trailer is alive.
Now the Westinghouse will work to charge it and supply power but it turns to pass through mode so you can pass 1800 watts and use that. But that’s it till you switch back to the delta pro fully.
So if a ac unit uses 1300 watts the Westinghouse will pass through the 1300 to ac and the 500 watts will be dumped into charging the pro. But if you want to use 2000 watts through the pro it won’t do it in pass through mode.
But with the smart Gen it will work as normal because it will Dc charge and the delta pro still is able to provide up to 3600 watts. But the smart Gen can only charge at 1800 watts. But I only get 1650 out of it.
@@johnnysweekends thank you great info we use the AC maybe 3 times a year so based and what you said I think the eco flow will work. And is the smart generator worth it ?
That depends on if you think you will utilize it that way it’s supposed to be used. From what you are describing I would say no. But a Honda 2200i..👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends perfect thank you for all information I totally appreciate it. I’ll just stick with the Delta pro and a solar panel and let a trickle charge all day.
For the cost of the Ecoflow i thought the LP connection was on it inside the panel, so world you go with a Echolflow or a eu2000i or this? Nice video Any HACK TO EXTEND THE EXHAUST OUTLET BY A HOSE? are the electronics safe outside wet conditions in the weather, and what about the generator battery if it's to cold will it charge ? will it start? is the battery a LifePO4 ? they have to be semi warm at 50 degrees?
This is not really a outside all weather unit but a generator tent or gen box would do.
The battery is lithium ion so a little battery for cold weather but still maybe not the best option in extreme cold so a agm replacement may be better.
ECOFLOW does not even off a replacement battery so I’m kinda annoyed with them about that.
I was regretting get the ecoflow smart generator before the dual fuel option was available, but I have a question-Does the flow of propane stop when the generator turns off? I wouldn’t want my cylinder draining while the generator is off.
Yes as you can see in the video, when the generator stops so does the load regulator. When I tested it with the pen no leaks and nothing draining. But I have used these kits before and many other people have as well for years.
Now if I wasn’t going to use the generator for extended periods then I would shut the propane off anyway like most things.
Because anything can seep if under pressure long enough.
I mean look at the news that came out a few days ago on all the leaks of benzene gases from homes over years.
But of course ECOFLOW is coming out with a dual fuel unit in the coming weaks
@@johnnysweekends thanks it was a great presentation, but I didn’t see the mechanism that would stop the gas if the generator decided to stop due to the main ecoflow being charged adequately. The gasoline has a carburetor float to cut-off the gas when the motor stops but didn’t know the load regulator did same.
Ahh got ya. Yea obviously the first regulator gets the pressure correct then the second regulator is the on and off and fine tune.
you can use soap foam to check propane leakage.
Correct, but this is faster and instead of spraying every joint you just sweep by. I did this in my new Rv because it had a leak..😳 found it super quick
@@johnnysweekends yes, it is faster! But in conditions of "not enough money" , 100$ for that equipment is a bit too much. 😀👍
@@johnnysweekends in my country is 100$ in shop, if I want to buy from US, add 45$ for shipment. It is equal. So, why I watch your video? I prepare my inverter generator to work at propane and gasgen(gas from wood gasification), and now generator work from triple fuel supply.
Ahh yea that is a lot.
Soap it is.
And wow cool, the gasification thing seems to be getting more popular. It’s like the second time in a couple days someone has mentioned it.
I wonder if you can connect 2 generators to delta pro this way. That would be awesome to run on natural gas to quickly recover any heavy loads, while solar catches up.
You mean two into the extra battery ports in the rear? Or just one on DC and the other on AC.?
Hmm idk I don’t think it will control both but who knows. Guess I will have to find it lol…😁👍🏼
😀👍🏼 will probably be a short video but will see. I need another adaptor so getting one coming
Should note that these kits should work with any of the 80cc Yamaha clones.
I’m not a hundred percent sure on that as the carbs to differ a little bit.
The engine is the same but I can’t confirm if the carb intake side is the same as they do use a different carb for different units. But it’s like 3 or 4 different carbs that I have seen.
Unless someone else can confirm. Bolt spacing I assume is the same it’s only the intake side of the carb that could change a little..🤷♂️
Did you ever get a run time on the 20lb tank?
It more about approximate kWh you get from a tank of gas and a 20lb tank of LPG.
Gas was about 5.4kwh and the tank is about 20kwh..👍🏼
Is there a kit to add natural gas to their new dual fuel smart generator?
No you have to bypass the internal load regulator on the newer df model. And at only 1800 watts it definitely doesn’t do great on NG. Just doesn’t have enough power.
Will this kit work for Onan Cummins 2500i
I’m not a hundred percent sure. I’m sure it’s close because it’s just the snorkel that’s different. That’s all.
Your propane kit takes me to the Predator 2000. Is that the correct kit for the Smart Generator.
Yes the ECOFLOW uses the same rato engine in the predator and the carb is the same except two stepper motors. But yes correct kit! 👍🏼
Thanks for the fast reply. You have a gift with your knowledge and the delivery of the information. I just bought the Smart Generator from Costco for $899. I wanted the propane model but the price difference is too much. This mod is just what I need!
And you know what I get full rpm and watts of 1650 with the propane mod verses the new dual fuel runs about 1550-1600.
And yea $1499 is pricey.
And thank you btw ..👍🏼😀
Using LPG produces 1600 to 1700 for propane. Using gas produces 1800
Unfortunately it never produces more than about 1650-1675 on gas or propane. This is at sea level. Well ok 500ft. Both the original and DF units produced the same results. But that’s not that big of a deal.
I'm trying to buy the "Snorkel": for I have everything else in the Converter Kit. Do you know where I can buy just the snorkel? Thank you kind Sir
You may have to contact the company through email direct for the actual single part. Or go to the website and see if they have it listed in the parts section verses kits..👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends I have tried sadly. And NO one will sell JUST the snorkel. How sad it is. For they ONLY want to sell the entire kit. Damn them. Thanks to you kind Sir.
Wow really??? That does suck. Kinda poor sales practice really.
Not sure what to do either because there are really only two companies.
Dude so sorry…
So, is it impossible to make the newer dual fuel generator capable of running on natural gas? I'm trying really hard to figure this out.
Yes if you bypass the internal load regulator. You cant double regulator and that one will not work as it is not designed for NG. You will also have to have the LPG house connected to activate the switch for propane. The original SG is very simple.
@@johnnysweekends thank you. Now I'm bummed I went for the dual fuel LOL I live in a city where natural gas is plumbed to every house and my water heater and furnace are both on natural gas. I watched your video on what to look for in a generator to be able to easily make them tri fuel a bit back and assumed that the dual fuel unit would be easier to fiddle with haha. Thank you for your response
@NoZenith no problem, I don’t think it would be hard as the gas line is right in front of the carb. But you’ll need to activate the relay on the other side for propane with maybe a dummy connector
@johnnysweekends oh interesting. I have one of those old school hardware stores in my neighborhood and they have helped me upgrade from old consumers round gas fittings and off size threading to make my appliances work already so they can probably help me with this! I'm assuming you're saying I need to have one of those little Chuck fittings to pop into the propane input I think it was one of your videos I just watched where you were discussing how they were proprietary and very much not the same thing as off the shelf fittings and you had to get it from the manufacturer of the part from China that was a very interesting video but it looks like quite the hassle to get that piece! Kind of wishing I had seen this video before Thanksgiving when I purchased the dual fuel now haha. Could have saved a couple hundred dollars probably to then throw at the regulator and hose setup you display here
@NoZenith the connector is no longer a proprietary item. Several others use it now like the new predator 5000 and champion 4500 dual fuel. All you need is something to activate the relay switch and plug the hole.
Dang you can run an eco flow on propane here and I thought it was all eletric
Well this is only a gas generator that compliments the whole ECOFLOW system..👍🏼😀
how long will the 20 pound cylinder last?
I haven’t tested that yet but from other units they can last up to 30 hrs but this generator will only run at 1000 watts on the low end.
So I assume at a 1000 watts and the engine running at 60-70% maybe 18-20 hrs.
Why not just use the adjustment screw on the diaphragm instead of using the extra fittings?
As in for what part? You need that screw to adjust so not sure exactly what you are wondering
@@johnnysweekends there is a adjustment screw right above the inlet of the low pressure regulator. That’s suppose to adjust the flow of gas isn’t it? As opposed to the extra adjustment fittings on the outlet?
Correct but according to the manufacturer and the guys I talked to which they note in the manual, do not adjust the adjustment screw behind that screw. That is only if the unit will not run properly during any adjustment on the load block.
So I have never had to mess with it and these have been a set and go item at least for me. The other is on my Honda eu3000is
@@johnnysweekends I think I understand. The adjustment screw is set for what the regulator is marked as (min max inlet). The exterior fitting is for essentially adjusting the vacuum pressure to regulate the amount of fuel the motor is demanding. I guess the only time the adjustment screw is needed to be changed is if it was used on smaller engines where less vacuum is created. I assume there is a spring behind it which can reduce the back pressure on the diaphragm so it’s more sensitive to less vacuum pressure. It makes sense why they cap it off now.
Correct that screw is for when either using I assume a much smaller unit or much larger and the preset that probably works for most units with the propane regulator which I think all are 11wc for these small and mid size units .
Don't they have a new one that has this built-in already?
Yes but for those who want to run on propane this gives them a option. And NG as well.
@@johnnysweekends so can you buy this unit with the propane kit and it'll be cheaper than the one with the propane kit built in? I can't find this model on their website
I’m not sure how many reg SGs are left. But for the people who already own one, this gives the ability to now run propane or NG. Verses the dual fuel unit I think will only run on propane unless modified.
I'd buy a propane only generator if you knew you'd only use propane and they have longer runs times then a dual fuel.
True, the dual fuel model of this is coming out soon, but you get way more btu’s with gas and longer run times but that needs to be able to have the extended tank tan to it..
👍🏼
All this has put me off Ecoflow! Rather pay a few quid more and say $1000’s on all the excess materials! Lol
Yea it just depends what you are wanting to accomplish. The ECOFLOW ecosystem is pretty darn cool.
Is it the cheapest, now. But Honda isn’t cheap either.
This is an awesome video. We have this same Tri-fuel kit on our Predator 9000/7250 watts generator running on NG. We have one DP unit. The solar panels cost way to much if you want to charge at 1200 watts. The Ecoflow generator has to small of a gas tank and wattage output. But with this kit, that changes everything. I might go on ahead and purchase the gasoline version and install this kit.
I really like how it was able to start/stop automatically too. I'm sold.
Awesome glad you like the video and yes you could use the same kit just order the snorkel unless you want two complete kits.
And if you do wanna order anything from ECOFLOW check the link I always have discounts..😀👍🏼 and the regular gas version is cheaper now
