- The Deep by Rivers Solomon was a beautiful and personal read. I feel like I could talk about this for maybe 20 more minutes. There's stuff I didn't even get to that I wanted to and stuff that I thought of by my second edit haha. But, let's chat in the comments. #booktube

Thanks you for the review Bri. It helped me.
I'm so glad it was helpful!
What an astounding review. I didn’t care for this book at all & planned to gift it to a friend but hearing your review makes me want to revisit it. I’d love to see more personal reviews like these.
Thank you and thank you for suggesting! I appreciate that and I will do more going forward. Also let me know what you think if you revisit! I'm super curious.
This book sounds like such a good hurt--a good book for empathy. Love your notes enthusiasm!
Yes, and thank you!! Really hoping to bring this into more videos hahaha
I recently posted about this book. It was beautiful and important. I mentioned it to so many people that had no idea of the history behind the book. I expected a powerful story and it did not disappoint. I loved the book was small so it is a manageable size for anyone to read. Great review. I love how you wrote so many quotes. I bet you reference them a lot.
Yes!! And thank you.
Nice review! I read The Deep last summer and tbh my only complaint is that it's too short, but at the same time I realize that because it's short it packs a much more concentrated punch, if that makes sense.
this is so true -- I was just thinking about it (again) and had a similar thought.
I was hooked from Page 1. Every tune I am near water, I always think about our ancestors crossing over or jumping ship. This book resonated with my soul.
Same!!
Enjoyed the review and loved this book. There's a lot going on about intergenerational memory, community, and self-preservation. Only critique was I felt kinda emotionally detached from Yetu the first half and I wished that I'd been able to bond with her earlier.
ooh that's such a great point re: Yetu! I'm so glad you loved the book. 💙
I read the deep earlier this year and the first 4 chapters were a bit confusing, but once I got past that I absolutely LOVED this gem of a novel! I havent read an unkindness of ghosts - do you think it is as good? :)
I'm so glad you loved it too! I think An Unkindness of Ghosts is. I'm still reading and I am liking it so far, but I should be finished by Feb. The book is much more Sci Fi (they are in space!) than The Deep but those similar themes I'm already seeing explored - stuff like class and the system of the ship is like systems that were set up during + after slavery, etc. I like the main character Aster already too.
@@CreativelyBria Interesting! I look forward to hearing your final thoughts if you want to share them later on :)
I do!! This year my goal is to actually share my reviews in video form. And thank you for your interest!!
Honestly this is something Marvel should have consulted Drexciya story or the Deep when creating Atlantis
Drexel?--can you write the original idea creator's name or site? That would be cool to check out!
Yes! Drexciya. And thank you for asking - I'll be sure to link in the description too!
@@CreativelyBria Awesome--thank you!
Hello. I was wondering if you do audiobooks?
hi! I haven’t before, but I do have interest.
Can you do an audiobook of the novel "the deep".. plzzzzzzz. I would really appreciate it 🙂
