Indeed, I didn't know much about Syria before the conflict, but yes it is a secular country with both Christian/Muslim and Jewish. There's clubs and bars .. and there's Churches and Mosques. Its rich with history and diverse in cultures.

Originally there were alot of different groups living in the Levant (modern day Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine) then they got mixed with the Arabs from the Arabian peninsula creating that diversity in the way they look
