Hello, I’m an Irish-Nigerian-American language learning UA-camr hailing from New York!
I currently speak seven languages. Six of which I taught myself from scratch. By 2023, I aim to learn another five. The languages I currently speak are English, Japanese, Russian, Dutch, French, Chinese and Spanish.

Iv had that happen to me once, but the opposite. I said I knew how to speak german and he went confidently like, isn't that Dutch?
@@oo6127 Ah like 'Duits'/'Deutsch'. Yeah, it sounds like it but it's confusing like that. Just like how Pennsylvania Dutch isn't Dutch but German.
I mean historically seen he’s right because Dutch was used by British people when talking about any German speaking person or to sum up all dialects like low- high- middle- German, Swiss German, Austrian German and Netherlandish into one word
@@stiegelzeine2186 Interesting tidbit, but still, he speaks Dutch so he knows what is referred to. It's not the same language, so the Dutch try to differentiate a bit from other cultures but foreigners still think our language sounds or looks like German.

@Dovyeon Totally not the point of the comment I made, I definitely agree with the need of having dialects and linguistic diversity ! I think Breton is super cool so is any other French dialect that came before the language was unified :D, I just think it's funny to have people wanting the independence of Bretagne.

Wasn't it Rex Harrison as Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady who pretty much at the beginning told everyone, that a french person can say whatever they want as long as they do it correctly!

We always like to joke here in the Netherlands that no matter where you go in the world you will find a Dutch person somewhere. Same goes for VRChat it seems.

There's something else that deserves to be mentioned: your attitude. Your Spanish needs some work, but thanks to your confidence, you get to be perfectly understandable and engaging. It's magnetic, no wonder so many people wanna talk to you. I do believe that the confidence should be taught on language courses, that is, how to forget about shyness and just freely express yourself

@@trnavskatreska7491 actually hangeul alphabet is so easy but if you are native english speaker I think it's more difficult to learn 'cause there are so many pronounce rules about korean language
@@alicesmayp i know like half of it rn im not a native english speaker but native slovak speaker and its pretty difficult to remember some sounds since they sound kinda same to me like ㅗㅜㅓ

Y mira te encontraste con una chilena, I knew the second she said Chile you would said something along the lines: "how can I understand you?" and I burst out laughing when that happen
Whenever I tell my coworkers that I can speak more than English, they get so amazed and it's funny to watch their faces when I say "Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch, Mandarin Chinese, and ASL" and they just say "damn, I can barely speak English"
