It’s mind-blowing, the amount of talent Doug Chaing has... and all of the artists that worked on the prequels. It’s just a shame that the story and characters didn’t get nearly the same level of development by George Lucas. I will always view the prequels as cars with beautiful paint jobs, but no engines. Without a compelling story, the prequels felt hollow.

i love his reasoning behind the sleek designs. that in the era before the standardized mass production of the empire, there was art and craftsmanship put into the construction of the ships. then as the clone wars go on, the designs become more and more industrialized. i wish the sequels had blended the two styles, with more elegant republic x-wings signifying a return to peace. the first order ships could still be weathered and blocky looking as a visual foil

I do hav respect for George and the whole team that worked to get this movie made. I know a lot of ppl that said he didn't try, or was just Doin this just cause he can and for the money and merchandising opportunities. I think geroge definitely had a love for star wars a an intense passion for its story and characters. so I will always look up to geroge as one of the best. I Dont think episode 1 was a great movie at all, I think it definitely needed a lot of work, same with ep2, it was an improvement but I still didn't think it was good enough to be up their with likes of the empire strikes back. I found enjoyment in ep3 though it lacked in dialogue but I thought it was a pretty ok film. So overall I'll say that geroge is a creative genius, he's created an entire universe that we hav all grown up with and love so much so I hav so much respect for him for that.

For some reason the prequels are polarizing. I remember being very surprised at how vocal people were about their dislike of the prequels. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and I like the prequels. I mean, there are actually a few books on the expanded universe that may have translated better to the screen....
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the hate makes Star Wars fans seem like snobs. As if we deserve the greatest things all the time. Spoiled. No appreciation for the immense work and passion from the people involved. Imagine their disappointment at the backlash after the amount of work they had to do.

definitely there was passion on the first movie, then he was coasting, its pretty obvious.
After he made star wars, he was lauded as the second coming of jesus (as far as movies were concerned) and so he just sat around for empire and jedi while people kissed his feet for whatever idea he okay'd
He definitely was talented, but his passion/talent has long since dried up, and the prequels portray that. He lost touch with filmmaking and story-telling because he became the establishment (the empire) with his gigantic merchandising and sellling out of star wars lmao

I want to do that for a living: be a concept artist for a variety of media.

for over 2000 days, george lucas was the guardian of script and ideas in the old star wars universe, before the dark times, before jar jar...

That guy can just draw perfect shapes just like that??! I could never hope to get anywhere close to that, even with a computer program. Some people just have better inherint talent than others. I have to find mine.

Incorrect, some people have just poured more hours into things than others. Nobody has talent, though many people have skills they dont realize spill into other things, that's "talent". Go out and draw buddy, and keep drawing until you reach the level you dream of.

I bet this guy is thrilled that the design he worked so hard on, for a movie that was so poorly received, has been given new life in the Mandolorian series.

Didn’t really care for his designs at all. Ralph McQuarrie established the look of Star Wars he should have more closely followed his lead.

Nostalgic opinions like yours are the death of creativity. Both eras justify different technology and the creative expression of vehicle design. Plus we see nods to the OT designs in the Jedi starfighters and the red Republic cruisers as the Republic marches towards becoming an Empire

It's too bad George spent all his time worrying about all these thousands of little things, and not enough time worrying about the fundamentals: story, characters, dialogue, etc.

I don't think anyone ever questioned Lucas on a single thing during the making of the three prequels. Sorr,y but this is not how movies should be made, and you can see the horrible end result of a process like this.

    • @JohnWesleyDowney
      @JohnWesleyDowney 3 роки тому +2

Sorry, but that'd exactly how ALL movies are made. The director is the one telling the story and in most cases has tremendous control over what goes on the screen. You need one captain to steer the ship. The various department heads and crew members are paid employees who are hired to support the director's vision. You cannot have hundreds or even thousands of people calling the shots or the thing would never get finished. There is tons of absolute bullshit on the internet about people being "yes" men to George on the prequels. On both the classic trilogy and the prequel trilogy Lucas both took input from others and also asserted his role at the leader.

Gocsa - yes let's trust the opinion of a random yt commenter like yoz over someone like Lucas who has been in the industry for decades. Not to mention Lucas thumbed his nose up at Hollywood conventions (putting credits at the start rather than at the end) which they ended up adopting anyways

1:11 "mmmhhh... there are certain things I didn't liked about Episode IV-VI, so the good thing was, at home I had the chance to draw everything as I like!" ....WTF why should someone design a new Star Wars, when the olds are gold?????

the fuck you on about? just look where it got him. just because some things are good doesn't mean you cant improve them or change them to your liking.
