About FUNNY GIRL:
The musical comedy classic is back for the first time ever! This bittersweet comedy is the story of the indomitable Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreamed of a life on the stage. Everyone told her she’d never be a star, but then something funny happened-she became one of the most beloved performers in history, shining brighter than the brightest lights of Broadway.

Lol Glee fanfiction where Sue Sylvester lands a role in Funny Girl
right! The irony haha
Rachel would be so jealous (good)
jane lynch is kinda meta seeing as sue sylvester walked out of rachel’s opening before the end of act one lmao
Yessss, this is exactly what I thought omg - who is she playing?
@Lizzie x7 she's playing Fanny's mother
@@laurelacroix8719 hahahahahaha this production is soooo miscast
LOOLL the irony 😂
When she said "Hello Gorgeous" I audibly gasped! Yes, this is Barbra's thing, but I am so happy that by bringing this production back to life, it is actually keeping her legacy alive. I am SOOO excited.
HELLO GORGEOUS
Is Funny Girl dear.
What are you talking about luv?
@@rma3_3_3 Yes I do realize it’s a funny girl thing… (I was raised on Barbra Streisand) the delivery of those few words gave full insight as to how they were planning to handle the entire production. It was pure insight into the brilliance of the casting.
@@tebogo1729 I am referring to the brilliance behind the casting while paying dues to the original.
YAAAASSS!!!!!! I did too! Love this cast ❤️
Very brave undertaking. There are those that feel that no one should ever play Fanny because Barbra was so incredible. To me, the show either lives or dies on how she puts across The Greatest Star. If we don’t believe her, the show is DOA
So true.
lanie Kazan was Barbra's understudy on Broadway, she did a great job as Fanny, but this cast seems miscast.
She is definitely an actor before a singer, however she’s a stronger singer from what I’ve heard than Sheridan Smith (I don’t want to hear it, even her Elle Woods was atrocious). Beanie is a comedic natural and has so much charisma. I think she’ll pull it off.
And so it was. DOA, I mean.
Looking at this comment now that Lea Michele's in the role...lmfao
Wow this trailer did not age well.
AND THEY WERE RIGHT LMAO. You can't fire me I quit. pathetic.
Oh my gosh... now that's a good commercial lol.
How many downvotes can Lea Michelle give this?
All that it deserves
How did Jane Lynch managed to get a role and Lea didn’t?🤣🤣🤣
@@daisyp3748 Lea got what she gave out 🤭
Y'all stop with all the Lea bashing. SHE refused the role when it was basically given to her in a silver platter back in her Glee days. Maybe she didn't even audition now because she's taking a break to you know, be a MOTHER. Especially when her pregnancy was hard.
Also, Lea congratulated the one who will be playing Fanny's role. Who's to say that Lea won't be part of the second cast in a future?
@@MAFLORENCIA Or maybe she won't. Lea Michele burned a lot of bridges with her attitude and difficulty working with others.
Ramin Karimloo?
Oh, I'm already into this 😏
JANE LYNCH is this? Oh my god. You just KNOW Lea is pissed! I would bet anything that Lea probably was on a short list somewhere but the scandal of her diva behavior made her lose it.
You just know Lea is frothing at the mouth!!!
Salogne? Which Lea are we talking about?
@@ShadowsofthePastTheater Lea Michelle from glee
Some of my friends have been on Broadway, and from what they've told me... yeah, that actually tracks.
Why do you find it necessary to bring negativity into this comment section? We should be praising Beanie for her success, not making fun of Lea. Maybe follow Lea’s example and congratulate Beanie?
Interviewer: Did you know it's Lea Michele's dream to play this role?
Beanie: Who?
Interviewer: Lea Michele.
Benie: I don't know her!
There are probably 1000s of theater girls who dream of playing this role. Beanie handled that awful question very well.
Well if she didn't know about Lea then, she certainly knows about her now. lol
@@Littlebit31 Except that she was lying through her teeth. If she was anywhere near a social media platform during the time of announcement or even while the production was rumored she would have seen Lea's name plastered everywhere.
Aged like milk this one here
You know, it looks like it could be really good. Like making me feel more excited than dread good. Beanie Feldstein looks like she’s slid into the role already. Jane Lynch as her Mom is good casting. And Ramin Karimloo as Nick Arnstein. OMG, perfect.
Jane Lynch is good casting? do you realize the mother (played by Kay Medford on B'way and the film) is a typical Jewish mother. where do you see seven-foot-tall Jane Lynch being good casting?
What a sensational thing to see on my birthday.
happy belated birthday!!!
Worst voice ever. When will they replace her permenantly by Julie Benko? With Benko, I would travel and buy tickets.
that wink is the sexiest thing broadway must’ve never seen in ages! She says hello gorgeous like girl you the gorgeous one
*Lea Michele has left the chat*
Ramin Karimloo!!!!
Sue Sylvester and the Phantom. Let's GOOOOOO. this cast makes me wish lea was not mean. imagine her and ramin.
yesss!!!!
@@onlygiovanniallthetime I like Jane but she plays JANE in everything she does. There’s no character study or acting.. she’s Jane.
What's funny about Funny Girl is to see such a talentless person brags about how gifted she is. "Hey, what are they DEAF?"
Let the gate keeping begin!!! The sheer number of pearls already been clutched is extraordinary and will only get bigger!
We were lucky to see the UK revival twice with Sheridan Smith who did a brilliant job as Fanny.....but now you are coming over the pond to see it on Broadway....a wonderful 40th Birthday present for my partner...I think the casting is FAB..Karmin was a wonderful and favorite Phantom!!!....Jane Lynch is Brilliant!!!...and as for Beanie....from what I've seen and heard she will be catapulted to be " The Worlds Greatest Star" !!!
Wellsir, you were wrong. She's not even her musical's Greatest Star.
We saw it.....We loved it.....She's different......She isn't Babs........She is herself
Saw the awesome double Olivier awarded Sheridan Smith play Fanny 3 years ago. she was a force of nature
Ramin K! Yay!
This is going to be ICONIC
The two key players here are Beanie and Harvey Fierstein - who is adapting the book.
Fierstein actually has more heavy lifting to do because Isobel Lennart's original book is a mashup of a toned down Brice (she was a pretty bawdy lady), a glammed up Arnstein (he was actually a small-time gangster, not a suave international gambler), and infused with Barbra Streisand's own origin story. The only thing that really made it play was Streisand singing all those great Jule Syne/Bob Merrill songs. Now that original producer Ray Stark (Brice's son-in-law) has passed on, maybe Harvey can put some of the real story back on stage.
Take about “heavy lifting” Let’s start with Beanie!
Harvey already revised the book for the 2016 London production. I have a feeling the book is going to closely resemble that one.
I think that what made it work on top of everything you said is Barbra’s hilarious mannerism and persona. The original show was a total star vehicle for her that cared little about Fanny Brice’s legacy. I don’t think that many people care about Fanny Brice really. Maybe this one will change that.
@@tonyparadise7801 "Heavy" indeed.
That is totally uncalled for . Cheap shot.
I just think that she will be so fun to watch on stage I'M SO EXCITEEEEEDD
All I gotta say is I hope they take their time with production. This is too good a musical not to be done to absolute perfection.
Too bad what happened to it. Miscast from top to bottom, crappy, cheap set and not enough orchestra. How on Earth did this thing ever make it to Broadway?
If she had taken it on the road first & been comfortable in the role as Streisand had before she filmed it ..it might have been better .....plus she should have lost some weight .. Fanny Brice was NOT heavy....... just my opinion......
Even tho I know I will never be able to see this, I am so hyped that a revival is finally happening because these songs need to be known by the younger generation - non of my friends have even heard of Funny Girl - and I think thats so sad
March is vary soon I really hope they don’t rush the production and let things fall where they should give the actors time to get use to their roles
Ramin karimloo and Jane lynch are like my dream combo for actors
I love that Jane Lynch is going to be in it!
I trust that Harvey will write a shirtless scene for Nick, otherwise Ramin will be grossly underused...
Ramin is wasted in this show. I hope they are paying him well.
@@tonyparadise7801 o commonn i had actually gasped when i read his name
I am looking forward to seeing Ramin’s take on the role! He researches roles exceedingly well ALWAYS!!
That's twice I've seen Beanie and thought Gaga. I think she's a great improvement on whom we had in the UK, who really couldn't sing, but hammed it up.
Beanie is so pretty! 😍
YES BEANIE!!! 🙌 She’s going to be epic in this role!!!
Why? You know something the rest of us don’t
@@tonyparadise7801 don’t say the rest of us. We’re not all naysayers.
I always wanted this show to be revived but I think the role is miscast. I've heard this girl sing and she doesn't have what Streisand had, not even close. Her voice sounds immature and somewhat grating. There are a lot of singers as talented as Streisand out there but I don't think this girl is the right fit. But I wish her well. Face it , she's got big shoes to fill.
Epically bad.
@@tonyparadise7801 LOL, Tony!
I need to see this show!!
Question 1, 2, 3 through 10: Why??? This girl ain't no Mega talent. Doesn't have the voice for starters Brave? New generation? OK. Bottom line: *She's Harvey's "fantasy" of, being a big girl and all , playing the role Himself. Think about it. Revivals? Get it.This one, my humble opinion, mistake. A dumbed down, watered down version. No Star power here. Sorry.
her father was a producer
@@bigguy3021 Of course! A leg up never hurt anyone. Look how long her run was. That tell you anything? Miscast.
It is hard as movies set in stone our expectations and views of the characters. Some actors OWN their roles and this is not known as a popular stage production.
I wish her well.
SO FRIGGIN EXCITED !! Been wondering, dreaming and waiting for this for 30 +years. I predict a runaway smash hit for the show and that she will be an absolute inspired sensation!🤞🏼 If nothing else... the girl has some massive cajones!! 🎯💗🎯
My god, life has meaning again
And then, she sang.... It is so depressing to see how Broadway audience don't have any standards anymore. The worst voice I have ever heard.
For everyone being negative before they have even seen it, I don’t believe for a second that they would give it to anyone who couldn’t handle it. All of it, singing, acting, comparisons, pressure, etc. Is she Barbra no, but NO ONE will be. I think she could be great.
Except Fanny Brice was not short and chubby. She was 5’6” and fit. The Broadway producers are doing just what the British did and that cast short chubby girls. At least beanie can sing. Sheraton Smith couldn’t sing period. Plus she looked like a bridge troll. Look up pictures of the real Fanny Brice she was tall and fit and wore some skimpy outfits through there years with Ziegfeld.
No disrespect toward Beanie but she is so miss cast
@@johnfalcon5511 Only talent matters in a true production. Especially in a musical with a complex character like Fanny. Type casting is overrated nowadays anyways. I hope she succeeds
@@DJSpang not when you have thousands to choose from. Casting is what I do. There are many out there who could slay the role and actually can look like Fanny.
No one should be comparing her to Barbra. The show is about Fanny. She looks NOTHING like Fanny beyond the wig (really Babs didn’t either) With thousands to choose from, nah. Hard pass. PS love her as Monica. That is fitting and realistic.
@@conductenor maybe not comparing her to Barbra but to FANNY HELLO!
No thank you
By the way I know she will be awesome in that role!
ramin??? RAMIN!!!!!!!!!! RAMINNNNNNN YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Yeah ramin is gorgeous.
I legit thought she is lady gaga on the thumbnail
I got my tickets!! So excited!
Ramin Is in this!!!! It’s gonna be good.
Finally! Thrilled can’t wait! Hurray for Ramin! Love love his voice. Brilliant cast!
I LOVE BEANIE FELDSTEIN this looks good
I’m so glad Ramin Karimloo is in this
He will be the perfect Nicky Arnstein!!! 😉
Very exciting! Looks like a great cast and the book by Harvey Fierstein!
Really?!What was wrong with the original book?! I hate it when they rewrite things for no reason!
Yeah, but we also need to see something of Fanny Brice in this performance. And we have a lot of background resources so that we can have a more accurate picture of who she was and what she was capable of doing!🙋
This is all the producers wanted to give us in this early teaser stage. We saw the "hello gorgeous" (Fanny Brice) moment. Relax.
I can't imagine that this play could b "changed" very much. True some revivals, to make them more politically correct change some words here or there. Actually revising script of such an anionic play to amke it more "historically correct" seems unlikely.
It's so interesting to see them trying to advertise Funny GIrl without any mention of Barbra. To me the two are inseparable. Without Barbra's effervescent performance bringing up the material, it will be interesting to see if the musical stands on its own.
I think you're being a wee bit overdramatic here king :/ but nice word choice, I can really tell you posted attention in year 10 english with that "effervescent" bit
She didn’t write the show??? She just played a role in the era of the show? Lol
and that’ll only happen if people compare her to Barbra but why would you when you can just enjoy the show lol
Barbra will always be most closely associated with Funny Girl, but I'm excited to see Beanie's interpretation of the role. She's a great actress and her performance can stand in its own right.
Barbra was 21, very little experience, not trained in singing or performance. All of this plus her desire for fame made her performance one for the ages. Miller guided this young, raw, phenomenal talent to the heights she accomplished. Kanin didn’t do much, so it’s said.
Saw the paper mill production. Ok, but not a sensation. I fear that with beanie feldstein as well. There is so little raw talent these days. Everyone on broadway is a trained technician without the presence and vulnerability needed to connect. I absolutely hated feldstein in “dolly”. Only one worse was bette Midler. Talk about a raw young talent directed by manilow and Hennessy to great success as the divine miss m, only to turn into schlock trapped bette Midler by 1979.
Already trying to get my mom to come see the show with me next summer! I already offered to buy the tickets with my own money I have saved up.
update: I GOT THE TICKETS.
Its so eerie how she looks like a twin to her brother
I can't FREAKING wait!!
Interesting! I don't know Beanie but I'm gonna assume the producers know what a high bar she has to jump, and trust her ability to do so. Me, I'd've cast Rachel Bloom (from "My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"). She's got the singing and acting chops, and a great comic instinct. I bet she'd knock it out of the park.
Well, she’s Ben Platt’s bestie and she’s been raised on the stage. She is no stranger to Broadway insiders.
@@tori2dles Thanks! I didn't know that. Yipe... y'know on second reading of my post I don't think I was clear--I meant to emphasize that even though I don't know her, she must have the stuff to ace the role, or she wouldn't have been cast in a risky venture with a tough crowd waiting to pounce on her for not being Barbra. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that my ignorance of a performer = "she must be a nobody." I *hate* when people use that snobbish argument. Anyway, thanks again!
She was Minnie Fay in the revival of _Hello, Dolly!_ with Bette Midler (identical circumstances, if you ask me.) She had a guest spot on _What We Do in the Shadows_ that was really funny, and she's playing Monica Lewinsky in _American Crime Story_
Beanie is in a film called booksmart. And also in another called ladybird
From American crime story too funny girl, her star is rising and I love it!
Rachel Berry is PISSED
I'VE WAITED YEARS FOR THIS.
i'm So Exctied for beanie as fanny she's brilliant
Memories of Barbra Streisand and Sydney Chaplin at the Winter Garden. It. Was. Amazing.😌
Why did I think that was Lady Gaga in the thumbnail!!!! Lol
Poor Ramin--having to act opposite of that.
Did anyone else think Lady Gaga was playing Fanny Brice for a few minutes?
That would have been inspired, but too much updating Barbra's legacy. I say it's Lea's role, but politics got in the way.
I totally did from the thumbnail. Looks just like Gaga in her _House of Gucci_ getup.
Yesss!!
@@jeffreywillstewart Lea’s reputation got in the way
Beanie is too nasally to sound like Gaga, Gaga has a huge and robust, round voice.. she can sing anything! They sound nothing alike.
I just know lea michele is stewing over the fact that jane lynch got a part in this and not her bahahaha
Lea Michele congratulated Beanie, which is something that you could have done instead of making fun of someone.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 who’s laughing now?
@@Loj0468 ASGKFZVJL TRUE
Okay Monica, get it on broadway!
DON'T FORGET SHE'S PLAYING FANNY BRICE, SHE'S NOT PLAYING BARBRA STREISAND!
AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW THE MUSICAL IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE MOVIE, VERY!
This
Okay so I am READY for this
Am I the only one that’s surprised at this casting? It just doesn’t feel natural to me. I know no one can be Barbara and I’m glad they’re even reviving the show at all, but to me Lea Michelle or Lady Gaga look more like her and have the vocal range for the part.
Can't wait! Beanie will slay 'em...
leave jane lynch out and ya got a hit!!!
Jane plays Jane in every show she’s in. There is no Sue Sylvester just Jane Lynch. She’s on Broadway now, she needs to step up her game. Unless of course be in g woke also means that anyone way all can be on Broadway because we wouldn’t want to hurt anyones feelings.
Ehhh I don’t know about this, smells like the casting director Jim Caranahan just pulled a few old favorites of his… Not very creative guys… Also sensing a strong partiality to the Hill/Friedman family in other castings he’s done, did someone call in a favor?
Glad to have Broadway Back, hope they keep the comedy sharp. I’ll be there for previews…
I think daddy and big brother bought and paid for the whole shebang! They’re producing, are they not?
yEs pLeAsE
There better be a pro shot released or else I’m gonna speed walk all the way to Broadway and no one needs to see all that sweat.
RaaAaaAMIiiIIINNnnnnN!!!!!!
Who is Jane Lynch playing? Flo Zigfeld?
It already looks like a GLEE knockoff.

Beanie is too cute to be Fanny! (Don’t get me wrong…I’m looking forward to this…even Barbra was better looking than Fanny! Beeyooteeful!).
Isn't one of the songs in Funny Girl is "If a Girl isn't Pretty" Beanie Feldstein -c'mon.
The whole point of Fanny is she wasn’t a beauty in real life. Sure, Beanie has curves, but she has every right to play Fanny.
@@quinnaddison420 Of course she has the right but if you compare a picture of the real Fanny Brice and Beanie you'll see what I mean. While Streisand was not conventionally beautiful, Fanny was very much less so.
@@charlesstuart7290 I thought you were doing the opposite of what you are saying so I apologize! I do think, to a degree, Beanie goes against another tradition of beauty being a woman of a certain size and I think that speaks to her casting. I apologize I misconstrued your comment!
