One always hears the saying, "history does not repeat itself", but lord have mercy, I have seen many clips from ww2 of germans also sunning themselves and drinking merrily while just across the way europe was in the grip of crimes against humanity. As a muslim I feel closer to christians than any othe religion, not in terms of the belief in the metaphysical nature of God, but in terms of love and respect, and that is a big part of the religion. If there were only muslims and christians in this world, I personally think we would all be in a much much better place. Hopefully other people would come to their senses and help do something positive to stop this madness.

It hurts because the world is being overrun by evil and we just lost a hero who dedicated his life to fighting for human rights and dignity. He gave a lot of people hope for a better future. We don't see this world as heaven. We see that some people are living in horrible conditions (like in Gaza) and he was one of the amazing people who dedicated himself to trying to give these people freedom.
Of course it's a loss. It has nothing to do with faith. When you see a child starving and sick from disease and war, you don't tell them to wait for the afterlife. They have a right to live with dignity and freedom in this life too, and he was one of the great people who struggled to try and give these people a better future. You don't have to reduce non-Muslims to simple minded people who are smitten by this material world, we feel pain for the loss because he did amazing things for people who needed it.
We show solidarity with Muslims and then you try to reduce our compassion to nothing more than clinging to the material world. Is that fair? There are a lot of non-Muslims supporting Palestine, you can just ask us if you want to know how we feel about something, instead of telling us the ways we are different.
