Not really. For example, this exchange: Shiva- Amazon destroyed India's taxation system for its own facility. Amy- How? Shiva- They got the government to create one uniform tax. And off she went. A hard direct question would have been- So why isn't the Indian government responsible for that? They actually made the change, not Amazon. Also a more thorough discussion of Bill Gates actions would have been interesting. There is a lot in that up for debate but Amy just let that all slide.
@@jackimiller8511 I agree with you that the government holds some responsibility for implementing a tax policy that grossly benefits Amazon, but they did not reach that conclusion on their own. This is something that Amazon is doing all over the world, and not just Amazon but every major corporation with enough money to influence elections. Either you vote for this bill or we spend millions fighting your next election campaign. Why does Amazon pay nothing in Federal taxes in the US? Because they hold the same influence over US politics. So you can either blame every individual government for enacting these laws, or you can blame the root cause which is the power that these corporations hold over local politics. You can change every politician in the government but if they were still elected under a system where Amazon has free range to influence the outcome, you are going to end up in the exact same place. The other option is to acknowledge that these businesses have too much power and to structure your elections in a way that addresses this issue. I don't know what the best structure would be, but something needs to be done. Saying that this is just a matter of governmental incompetence is not going to solve anything. You will just end up chasing your own tail while they continue to profit.

Vandana Shiva is almost singlehandedly responsible for the government of Sri Lanka banning pesticide use - which led to millions of people suffering starvation. If you look into her at all beyond this video, you will find that in virtually everything she discusses she has no idea what she is talking about. She understands almost nothing about the reality of the type of large scale agriculture that is actually required to feed the huge and growing human population. While her claims of being an environmentalist sound good, in reality she is a science denying hypocrite who wants to take farming practices back to the middle ages (she has advocated for using no automation at all, not even things like tractors) - you can see how well that worked out for Indonesia. She romanticizes the past and ignores the scientific evidence related to modern safe and sustainable farming practices. Monsanto is evil because of their business practices, not because of their technology. I encourage everyone to watch Myles Powers' videos about her; they will be eye opening for you.

I just want to applaud the interviewer on this one. She asked hard, direct questions every time Vandana made an unsubstantiated claim. And Vandana came right back with the evidence for her claim. Great interview all the way around 👍
Not really. For example, this exchange: Shiva- Amazon destroyed India's taxation system for its own facility. Amy- How? Shiva- They got the government to create one uniform tax. And off she went. A hard direct question would have been- So why isn't the Indian government responsible for that? They actually made the change, not Amazon. Also a more thorough discussion of Bill Gates actions would have been interesting. There is a lot in that up for debate but Amy just let that all slide.

I agree with you that the government holds some responsibility for implementing a tax policy that grossly benefits Amazon, but they did not reach that conclusion on their own. This is something that Amazon is doing all over the world, and not just Amazon but every major corporation with enough money to influence elections. Either you vote for this bill or we spend millions fighting your next election campaign. Why does Amazon pay nothing in Federal taxes in the US? Because they hold the same influence over US politics.
So you can either blame every individual government for enacting these laws, or you can blame the root cause which is the power that these corporations hold over local politics. You can change every politician in the government but if they were still elected under a system where Amazon has free range to influence the outcome, you are going to end up in the exact same place. The other option is to acknowledge that these businesses have too much power and to structure your elections in a way that addresses this issue. I don't know what the best structure would be, but something needs to be done. Saying that this is just a matter of governmental incompetence is not going to solve anything. You will just end up chasing your own tail while they continue to profit.

It is good but also endorses too liberally the identity politics of modern late phase feminism. Amy is a great interviewer and asks good questions and then allows an answer to be formed without having to twist it in some wierd way that suits her point of view. I'd love to see her interview Jordan Peterson some day on freedom of speech.
