I shoot Canon for over 25 years, added a Fuji XT3 to my bag and slowly made the switch to Fuji! The size, character from my photos, cost of the lenses, etc just spoke to me. I found myself carrying my camera around everywhere again! I still edit my raw files but I must admit I love the jpegs and film simulations! My Fuji kit now consists of an XH2S, XT5, X100V and my beloved XT3. My clients love the images I deliver. Happy shooting 📷

I have an R6 with a bunch of L lens. I also have an X-Pro1, and a XT-1 with the 18/2, 35/1.4 and 56/1.2. From an IQ perspective, it’s hard to distinguish the difference between the 2. I bought the R6 for its AF, as a bird photographer the R6 smokes the Fuji. I have a small messenger bag, the 2 bodies and 3 Fuji lens I have easily fit in, and it’s super comfortable to carry around all day. I have a Manfrotto BeFree carbon fibre tripod which weighs next to nothing, all in, its a great lightweight set up.

Best accessory combo = Fuji X100VI + Fujifilm LC-X100V (official leather case) + NiSi Fuji X100 Series Black Mist Filter 1/4 (or the non mist edition).
The leather case gives extra grip, especially on the right hand (thumb grip no longer needed). This filter also allows the original cap to still be used AND it still fits in the leather case with the filter attached.

This review comes across like Fro has finally been given the keys to the Fuji toybox. The enthusiasm for the camera for what it is really comes across, while being very fair and transparent with the good and not so good.
Many reviewers seem obsessed with comparing it to their ILC with fast lenses after having played with the camera for an hour, or try to shoot a movie on it and complain the battery dies and it overheats too quickly. I've seen some complain it's no good for wildlife!
On the price, in the fuji line-up the lens is better than the €450 23mm f2. Woth today's pricing, thats arguably a €600 lens. At least in the fuji world, this camera is their cheapest way to get shooting with a 23mm f2. So just make sure you like the FL!
Hopefully Fuji will send you some more review units! Would love to see you taking a look at the recent GFX efforts and to compare to FF and APSC at equivalent focal length and apertures.

I've had an original X100 sitting on my shelf for a while. I recently cleaned it off and charged it up so my girlfriend could carry it around as an everyday camera and take pictures of us and our friends while we're out. She absolutely loves it and it was definitely a reminder of how strong this concept is. I also get the added benefit of her learning more about aperture, shutter speed, and ISO along the way. I'd rather have an XT-5 but these cameras are so much fun

Thanks for the review. Yes, the Fuji X100 series is limiting. To me that’s the joy of it. I’m an original X100 owner and have added the X100 S and the X100 F along the way. The jump to the new sensor and other enhancements mean that for, it’s time to upgrade to the X100 VI later this year after I’ve saved up for it. I do enjoy the film simulation bracketing which yields three looks, jpegs, from one click of the shutter. For me, the creativity these little cameras inspire is well worth the price. Happy image making!

I’ve had the x100vI for a couple weeks now and I love it!I own two other Fujifilm cameras which are great as well but there are enough unique things about the x100vI to keep it. I agree that this should not be somebody’s first camera to learn on. Being able to try different focal lengths is a game changer. It also makes getting a fixed lens camera that much more convenient and challenging all at the same time.
Not going to lie, I didn’t think you were going to like it as much as you did.
I would love to see which kit would be the best to maximize a new pair of jnco jeans, 😂. Thanks for the great review.

Really nice review of this camera. It’s obvious you know how to use all kinds of camera because you got a lot of great images in all kinds of different conditions. I appreciate how you showed the versatility of this small factor camera. I have owned the Fuji X 100T, F and V and have this camera ordered. I like to use it mostly for street photography but it’s also fun as you said because of the box. It makes you move and for me it’s just a fun camera to shoot. While I normally use my bigger Nikon’s for my landscape work, it’s fun to just pick this camera up and take it and leave the heavy gear behind and know I can still get some great photos. Thanks for also showing how your presets affected the look of the images, I will have to check those out.

Overhyped, but still amazing. The only thing that sucks about it is the "wide" af mode (detecting face/eyes still works great, but for objects it's terrible).. it basically focusses on whatever you don't want it to focus on (: You could be trying to focus on an object right in front of your lens and it'll still try to focus on the background. Avoid that mode and you're good.

I ordered one on May 23rd in Sweden.. I don't expect it anytime soon but I'm so exited. I've put my Nikon D700 to rest and I need something smaller and more like "This is all you got, work with it" camera. I'm so tired of having to change lenses, walking around with a heavy ass camera and equipment and be "that person with the camera". I've been very unsure if I should buy a Nikon D850 because I have expensive lenses that I want to be able to use ore change to a Nikon Z and buy an adapter for my lenses. But no, I just want to have one snapshot camera right now and be able to get back to the love of photography..

Jared, I was pleasantly surprised by this review from you. That said, as a long-time Fujifilm shooter, you can do the same things with the X100v if you want to be "locked in the box" to quote you. I don't think the camera is worth it and agree that if you're new to Fujifilm pick up a used X-Pro 3 instead. It's a much better camera and you can change lenses as well as adapt vintage glass from just about every manufacturer to it.
If you've got to have the exact technical specs with the new X-TRANS sensor go with the X-T5. If you need full frame in a "retro" body you can't loose with the Nikon Zf. It's a fantastic camera.

Interestingly enough, during the x100v craving last year, that camera brought me into photography. I exclusively use my phone camera. I looked into x100v, put in an order, by the time 2 months go by. I got impatient and I started looking at alternatives, decided on the fuji xt30ii. With interchangeable lenses, i started playing different focal lengths. Now a year later. I am loving photography as a hobby and creative outlet. And by the end of this year I'm going to upgrade to a full frame Nikon ZF, mainly bc i want to invest into ff lenses. The x100 literally brought a normie like me head first into photography, and I'm swimming towards the deep end lol.

I had a two Fuji X100V series cameras I used them as a third camera on assignments. Great when new out of the box but after moderate use things started to go funny at times, the menu would freeze, the auto focus took to long at times in Low light or low contrast situations. When the camera was on for a bit the focus point would be hard to adjust. These issue happened when it heated up and it heats up quick as its a small body so be weary of it. The focus and aperture rings are too thin good luck if you have medium or large hands I also found the menu is a bit to extensive. The Killer for me is the viewfinder, too much info seems crowded and is small. I shoot Leica M's and at times quickly switching from a manual range finder finder to the Fuji was not pleasant. It does have and EVF that pops up in the finder when you rotate the front lever but its too small. The good, its small, it fits in your pocket or any pocket of your camera bag. The F2 lens is fine and the leaf shutter is really the saving grace as it will sync at all speeds when using external flash, letting you shoot with a wider F stop for some shallow DOF at F2 in daylight with out needing ND filters. no vibration so slow shutter speeds are sharp. The camera looks nice better in black, has a nice retro look. Buy the lens hood you'll need it and a second battery. 40 megapixels sounds impressive but no visible advantage in a print, if you look at your photos on the monitor you'll zoom in a bit more . Cropping vs getting the lens attachments? Get the lens attachments and use the full resolution of the sensor especially the wide angle attachment, you will use it all the time and still keeping it small. The tele attachment is large changes the dynamic of the camera entirely. If you are a casual shooter and what a good looking little camera capable of good video and good stills, then grab one. it is a bit pricey but hey you live once. If you shoot actively everyday, there are better options out there.

I quite like the idea of having of a retro-like compact camera with a prime lens to just throw it in my bag, especially for everyday + street stuff. But as a Sony shooter I think I'd might have the better setup if I just add the 40mm f2.5 G to my A7C II. I like the file simulations though...

Yes. I already have one and I’m loving it! My main câmera is a Canon R6 with 7 lenses, but I think this will be my company more often. By no mean i’m going to change sistem, but I’ve had and still have Fujifilm and I just shoot Jpeg with them & just RAW with Canon…! Love both systems…, and this X100VI is a bargain for what it does…! You didn’t talk about leaf shutter, recipes, and flash…, for any reason? Thank you for your review and honest thoughts…, as always…! 🤙🤙🤙

Jared's not a big flash photography kind of guy, so he's rarely mentioning that kind of stuff in his videos.

Absolutely loving my x100vi. My first Fuji. I’m a Sony shooter for work but this camera has inspired me to take more photos and document my life. Love the film recipes and how great the files look out of camera which is perfect for personal work. Very happy indeed.

velvia is my favorite too. I shoot raw+jpeg as I prefer to be able to edit my raws later but the ability to send a good looking jpeg to my phone and share it quickly before getting home for post production it works really well.

Have an R5 with L lenses, but something about a pocketable camera to take around for street photography and more candid shots feels right. With 40 mp and ibis, this might be hard to beat. And the esthetic is on point

I’ve been waiting on this video. You were much more positive than I expected. Took some great photos! I preordered as a second camera to carry around everyday. You can edit those film simulations in any Fuji camera to get the look you want but I know you live that RAW life…. That battery sucks but I already own 2 of them so I should be good if I ever get mine… Ha

My gawd! Forget the review, I just love the compositions you produce, and I think the challenge of shooting through a fixed lens is something you've obliterated. Really damn fine work Jared. Although I already have a deep and passionate love of photography, witnessing your images only intensifies those feelings. (Scott drank a bottle of wine before commenting, but that should not negate from the fact that he thinks you're awesome at your craft, and that UA-cam is blessed to have you posting).

You can get a compact lens and throw it on a smaller interchangeable lens camera and get basically the same thing if you don't bring any other lenses. Something like the A7C II, or for even smaller lenses, etc a Panasonic Gx9. But honestly a lot of what Jared said in this video is what I hear from many Micro Four Thirds shooters about why they like the system. The lens and camera combos can be very small. With smaller sensors you usually get better image stabilization. But mostly Micro Four Thirds cameras are fun to use.

This is partially true, but one of the BIG advantages of the X100 is that the leaf shutter and built-in flash mean that you can get high-speed shutter sync with fill flash on a sunny day. In other words, it is _very good_ for taking pictures of people outdoors.

After putting a shutter button on the shutter button, I found myself accidentally turning on the X100V a lot less.
I bought mine in late 2020, and it ended up being my most used camera for the next three years. When I got my first DSLR a decade and a half ago, I took it everywhere with me. Then as my gear evolved into fancier kit, I took it far fewer places. I stopped being a daily shooter, and only really shot on trips and on projects. The X100 got me out of that funk in the heart of the pandemic times. Took a select number of pictures almost every day of the week for three years. I don't know if it will be that camera for everyone, but it was that camera for me. I sold it a week before the VI was announced. Good timing, I guess.

i really enjoyed this review. Was expecting a negative review due to the focus/appeal of shooting film simulations/jpg on this camera, and expected you to rant on about how jpg is nonsense and raw is better. But you were objective and summed it up great! RAW will allways be better if you dedicate the time to editing the photo. But as you said, if you want something quick and dont want to edit, this is a great alternative. Found myself wanting this camera due to me not bringing my A7R3 and various lenses out of the house the last 2 years. The results? i dont bring a camera and dont take photos anymore. This will hopefully change that! Thanks for a great review!

Your pics are amazing. Love this camera. Best thing about that in-body cropping is it only crops in on the "jpg", not on the raw. So, as long as you configure to write both raws & jpg's (or hif's) you get the best of both worlds.

Glad you brought in the Sony at the end. That’s my dilemma - getting the Sony a7cii or even the a6700 or the cannon rp
Small but not really small. And who can afford a Leica- oh you can but why.
