not related to the video, but are you a proponent of the hands firing from in front of the vertical toe as a hitter. In other words, when you load your hands and when they go forward they DONT go back behind the toe line at all???

Makes sense what you're saying but if I show this to my boys who both catch, the first thing they're going to call out is that the example shows the pro catcher is doing the exact thing your description says not to do; he's moving into the ball at contact.

Catching is the one position I dont understand why anyone would ever want to be one. It looks so uncomfortable with the constant squatting and getting baseballs fouled off your junk every other day 😂

Calling the pitches and being in the action makes it exciting. Also it's really fun to throw out runners attempting to steal. Gotta be tough though because you'll get hit in the nuts lol.

Ex catcher here. ABSOLUTELY LOVE the position. Get the ball and call every play. Big part of the game. Catchers are some of the most aware players on the field.

The only player/coach on the team. My son caught for over ten years. Every level and every coach consulted with him about the game during the game. Every play the catcher sees the whole field and can direct the action. Catcher is the only one that can visit the pitcher mid inning. Catcher can have a good rapport with the umpire and mediate between dugout and umpire. Catcher position requires far more diverse skills and talents than any other player. Pitchers can throw what they need to in any situation because they trust the catcher. Bases loaded, bottom of final inning, winning run on third. Can I throw my best pitch, a curve ball in the dirt? If catcher can't block, I can't throw that with confidence. The most important position without any argument is the catcher. You might say the pitcher.... But he pitcher is in one of 4 games maybe. The catcher is in every pitch of every game. The pitcher may be the most important player in that inning, but not the most important player on the team.

Oh, and the catcher is the one position many coaches ignore and don't coach, train, practice. They just stick a kid behind the plate.

@@MH-TeslaIt's funny you mention that because the head coach would hardly do any catching practices for the catchers during the winter season and the kids absolutely sucked during the start of the season. Need to have a separate stations for catchers to practice.
