    HI, when I use 8ply/DK yarn I use a 4mm hook, when I use the worsted weight yarn I use a 5mm hook, I have loose tension and find the smaller hook give me nicer even stitches
    When you change the yarn thickness and hook size, depending on how much different your yarn thickness it will make a difference, but if you use the same yarn and 1 size bigger/smaller hook it will make a slight difference...sometimes this can be the difference on having a hat fit or not
    hope this helps you

    It can be, you will have to figure out how to increase with the puff or special stitch to make the crown of the hat grow. Its just easier to make the crown first and then start the fancy part. thanks for watching

    First of all THANK YOU so much for doing these tutorials. You're a great teacher and I really appreciate that you explain everything clearly and with great patience. :) I learned to crotchet with your videos! I just have a question: generally, for most of the hats, what size needle do you use (I know it depends on the yarn but do you have a preference)? The one I have is a 3.5 and it's going great but I wonder if it'll make a dramatic difference to use a larger needle size/yarn size? Thank you!

    Thank you so much for the tutorial, I am new to crochet and aim to make this hat a slouch beanie. I have followed all the directions and was wondering, is it normal for the stitches to go from 72 to 100? After the first puff stitch row, the stitches went from 72 to 100... Also, I am almost running out of yarn and have yet to get past a third row after the increase, how would i connect another ball of yarn (same color) to the hat?

    Hi Clair, I've done this hat following your tutorials and I love it! I get so many compliments, I want to make another but make it a little different. Instead of having the crown part as shown above, I'd like the crown to be puff stitches too. Is the concept of increasing the same with puff stitch as it is here? I want to use a pattern that I've found which requires a row of hdc between each row of ps, how do I increase?
    Any help you can give would be appreciated. :)

    Please help! This is my very first hat and although your instructions are super easy to follow, it seems as though I have messed up somewhere along the way? I'm on row 12 and my hat just looks like a giant dollie? When I try to fold it in half to see if it resembles a hat, it just doesn't, just a halve of a circle! What did I do wrong? I really do not want to take the whole thing apart but I'm afraid I may have to, can you help? Please and THANK YOU! ;)

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare 10 років тому

      It sounds as though you are doing the right thing for the crown of the hat. That part will always just be a flat circle, now to make it into a hat you need to stop doing the increases (the 2 stitches in the same stitch) and it should start to take on a hat shape,
