Who do you think won? Is it undisputed? Leave a comment, Like and Share the video! Thanks for Watching! Round 1: 0:50 Khaligraph 1:43 Gadi Moja Round 2: 3:12 Khaligraph 5:40 Gadi Moja Round 3: 7:35 Khaligraph 8:40 Gadi Moja My analysis is below for those who like to read. I didn't plan to splurt all this out so I might just turn it into an analysis video. Probably nobody in the world will EVER read any of this but idgaf, i love this shit. This battle was very interesting to me because of the polar opposite styles that each emcee is coming with. We are presented with a sort of dream battle scenerio: Flow Vs. Punchlines! First we must excuse the technical audio difficulties faced and the resulting shriek of the mic feedback loop! I also beg your forgiveness for the shaky video footage. BATTLE FORMAT The battle is loosely organised in that there's no coin toss and the crowd is the judge. The format is common for Rap Battles in that period - over an instrumental for a fixed time each round. The beats are changed at each battler's turn and all are in the 93 to 100 bpm range which is medium tempo but is still quite fast when you're freestyling off the top of your head as was expected in rap battles then. No written material! In the years that followed, the typical Rap Battle format has changed significantly: The crowd is still the judge but the time given isn't so tightly fixed, the beat is left out entirely and mostly written material is expected from emcees. Any change in the format - whether it's loosening time restrictions or allowing a written performance - dramatically affects the dynamics of a battle. I argue that we get a taste of this in the final round when one of the contestants goes acapella. KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES Khaligraph's idiosyncratic rap style consists mainly of two elements: multi-syllable rhyme schemes and a quick choppy flow. His bars are often almost perfectly symmetrical. Within a 2 bar scheme he tries to ensure the 2nd bar matches the syllable count and cadence of the 1st bar as closely as possible while making his statements. His bars are neatly aligned and organised with machine precision. This is evident as we see him freestyle off the dome to the rhythms of various instrumentals without missing a beat, all while conjouring multi-syllable rhymes as he incorporated elements in his immediate surroundings - not an easy task at all, especially considering the tempo! Freestyling to a beat is challenging enough even for a veteran rapper and this is may have proved too much for a young Khaligraph. We can feel it in his punchlines not packing enough punch. As much as he skillfully landed on the snare of the beats, he wasn't landing with the punches enough to sway the crowd or dissuade his opponent. If the determining factor would have been who can ride the beat the best then Khaligraph hands down took this battle. A diamond in the rough, Khaligraph Jones went on to build a formidable career path and shines bright at the top of the continent. This battle, however is reflective of how much he had yet to master and subsequently how far he has journeyed. We see him here still full of drive but carrying with him the nervousness and humility of a novice. THE UNBWO-GADI-BLE ONE In contrast, Gadi Moja comes through as the antithesis to Khaligraph. His rap style is flexible, asymmetrical; like colouring outside of the lines. His main concern wasn't to perfectly bounce on the beat or to link a long line of multi-syllable rhymes, but rather to land those stinging punchlines. In the battle Gadi Moja raps like a southpaw boxer fights - he flows offbeat almost arrhythmically, often ignoring the instrumental altogether as he stretches the scheme searching for a way to connect the punch. While Khaligraph was relying on multiple jabs to rack up the point count, Gadi Moja is trying for a knockout. Judging by the crowd response to Gadi Mojas finishing punchline, a knockout he got. There was no consideration period, it was immediately determined that Gadi Moja was the winner as soon as he finished his last scheme to a resounding cheer. I think it's noteworthy that on his final round Gadi Moja immediately took control of the battle like commandeering a ship as soon as he got the mic. He took off before the host, Point Blank, could tell him to go and left the DJ in the dust before he could lay a beat meaning he was rapping acapella. Considering his off beat style, this was advantageous for Gadi Moja who, by jumping right to it, had everyone attentively listening so as not to be left behind and miss a line. Whether this was intentional or not, it definitely was a great play by Gadi Moja. It gave him the upper hand in determining the pace of the race rather than having to keep up with the fairly high tempo beats. Battling with beats is like mixing a hurdles race with a slam dunk competition; the instrumental kills the momentum leading to the punch. That is ultimately why as Battle Rap has evolved the beat was dropped - for good! For those interested, the Instrumentals used and their tempos: 1st Round - Khaligraph - M.O.P., Ante Up - 95bpm -Gadi Moja - ???? - 93bpm 2nd Round - Khaligraph - Beatnuts, Watch Out Now - 100bpm -Gadi Moja - Mos Def - Oh No - 100 bpm 3rd Round - Khaligraph - Mos Def - Oh No - 100 bpm -Gadi Moja - A C A P E L L A
From battling for a phone in rap battles back in the day to currently signing million dollar deals off rap, Khali is an embodiment of 100% hardwork and trusting the process, the OG should be respected!
Through all the bars of Khali the only word nilikua naskia ni "fala fala fala fala" but this lengend called Gadi moja killed with simple words, Respect for him.
OG's first ever battle and he lost in the finals and the way that young man was flowing na ni off the dome is so sick. The other guy was making punchlines off beat so it was easy for him to hit hard, OG's concern was to first flow then hit his man hard. OG is OG
I have been listening to Hip Hop and Rap Battles and Cyphers but one thing i cant tell you for sure, Those Rappers who make sense and are on point, 90% haven't made it. but those who got flow and talk crazy things, are the ones who receive acceptance. Where is Gadi now? May be in some crack house somewhere... But the OG still remains the OG. PAPA JONES NO 1 FAN.
This is true. People need to understand that music is a form of entertainment and the sole purpose of entertainment is escapism. That's why a rapper with flow carries the day. Majority of people are listening to music (rap for this matter) to feel good, not to decipher what one is trying to say. This is something khaligraph jones has been able to capitalize on, hence the reason he is relevant in the rap industry up to now.
Hapa Gadi.Moja aliosha OG vibaya. From this, I have come to learn that 'Kutangulia sio kufika & Mvumilivu hula mbivu.' OG remained true to the profession na saa hii (2021) yeye ndio top rapper in +254.
I dont know the criteria they used to deny khali the win cz it is obvious khali did it better. His sensible rhyming, the flow, the musicality, and everything is just right. No wonder he is the king now and the other guy is forgotten. You cannot bury the seed that God has blessed because it will eventually germinate and grow into a massive forest.
On my view kali showed the crowd weakness he let emotion controll him thats where the crowd pulls u down bt he still he flowed better than gadi bt he came back in beast mode not saying gadi wasnt good also n it would be amazing to see him alangside kali in cartel 4
For the love of the game and as a show of good sportsmanship it would be great to see this happen. I highly doubt it ever would but it would be a great surprise.
Lesson learnt Gadi had punch lines Khali had flow. Underground hip hop you need punch line main stream you need flow, reason Khali made it watu wengi wanadai flow.. punch lines peleka kwa battle. Another reason learnt never give up even when humiliated na watu ambao si home ground
If at all we were now to feed this punchlines on an instrumental...Gadi would have more of correction. OG ni OG. The reason why Gadi wont be seen near the music industry anytime soon is because of his Rap style. He is even here due to King Khali. I would then recommend King Khali to look for this man and teach him some rapp-ing skills and manners on stage. Thanks.
Ephesians 5:15-17 Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise; making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Gadi alikam na mbogi ya kucheer. I remember this day. Flow yake iko off, punchlines zake some sick but hakuwin fairly. He came with the crowd for that purpose. Kushout at weak punchlines. OG naye alikuwa anaflow but fala na stupid zilikuwa kibao😂😂.. This was a whack battle
Si Mungu afanye miujiza tuskie uyu mc anajita gad achomoke na solo moja alaf title ikue I'm not done yet awa marapers kwanza wakae chini waskie some real shiet from skilled mcz

Kaligraph was 17 on his first Battle and went straight to the finals 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
From battling for a phone in rap battles back in the day to currently signing million dollar deals off rap, Khali is an embodiment of 100% hardwork and trusting the process, the OG should be respected!
We! This should be a motivational to everybody. Am sure Khali will be looking at this and break down in tears....
Through all the bars of Khali the only word nilikua naskia ni "fala fala fala fala" but this lengend called Gadi moja killed with simple words, Respect for him.

Sad...But I guess this was where OG had to rebrand his game and started killing any that came forth. I'm Nigerian, but I respect Khali any time.
When this one came along I understood mbona OG will always be the OG...
Gadi moja made khaligraph hit hard.... That's why he's flying right now
