    Questions for Mama & Baba:
    1. How did they get to Ohio?
    2. What made them choose Ohio?
    3. How did they find a place?
    4. How did they communicate if they didnt know the language?
    5. Do they have any regrets?
    6. Looking back in retrospect would they choose another location to migrate to?
    7. Why the large age gap in kids?
    8. What would life have been like if you all stayed in Romania?

Restaurant business and why didn’t baba choose to stay a dentist

    • @needmusicnmylyfe
      @needmusicnmylyfe 24 дні тому +4

@@starb6683 i feel like that one is obvious….he would have to go to school for 8 years to become a dentist in America as his dental certifications from Romania would not apply in the USA….being that he had a family, he needed income right away, plus he probably couldn’t afford to pay for schooling as well.
Im sure they saw a lack of cuisine in their field of expertise and made a good decision to open a restaurant. Baba seems to love to cook especially Kabobs lol and Mama cooks so effortlessly as well.
They chose well , just sucks they had to work such long hours….man the sacrifice and work ethic blows my mind!
I just feel like they would have done better in another state w/ their restaurant business so im so curious as to why they chose Ohio and even chose to stay put. Maybe they never traveled outside of Ohio to even realize there was more to America? 🤔
Also Naz i think a pop up of Baba’s and Mama’s cooking would be a great idea
So we can all taste and sample. Charge a flat rate for a sample platter plate lol

Growing up with immigrants parents was hard, growing up watching the struggle and being in the struggle definitely helped shape who I am today. Out of all of that experience, I am proud to say I am the first Guatemalan women in my family to do alot of things for my generation. Proud of all immigrants people and first generations 💕😭

Thank you so much for bringing up the hardships of migrating compared to the way media portrays people who move for a better life for their family. The point you raised in being drawn to different cultures, is the fact that you are drawn to people who experience the same struggle and the same internal moral compass.

I related to this episode so much 🤍 my parents and I moved to the US from Colombia when I was 6, also in December of 2000. My parents busted their asses and I always proudly say that I have never felt poor in my life, all thanks to them. I do wish I would’ve had more time with them since they worked so much so now I hope I am able to be a stay at home mom when I have my own kids.
I started working when I was 16 bc I wanted to take care of myself and take some of the weight off of them.

I was born in Costa Rica and came to Canada at almost 3 years old, I definitely appreciate my parents for all they gave us. My mom was a stay at home mom until a certain age, then she began working in a factory and tired out her body everyday. My dad worked construction all his life, like many Latino immigrants, until he couldn’t anymore. Even until now, my mom especially is very frugal with spending but I didn’t ask for much as a kid, I just wanted Barbies and toys mainly, I can’t imagine kids who grow up asking for tablets and brand name clothes and stuff. We had one shared oldschool family computer until I eventually got my own laptop.
Now, my bf is Colombian and I’m watching him try to immigrate to Canada and working his butt off.

I grew up in Nashville which you would think it’s not full of different cultures and ethnic groups Persians stood out to me so much living in the city area. You guys are so beautiful have amazing features skin and it’s so amazing to see how hard-working you guys are. I’ve always looked up to you guys. Persians men and women are absolutely stunning human beings, and I loved living in that environment going to high school with so many different people and you guys definitely stood out ✨✨

One of my favorite episodes so far! Had to hear it in 3 parts bc of motherhood 😂 but it’s so sweet how much you both admire and praise baba. He along with your mother definitely molded you two into what you are today and it shows. I know baba sometimes isn’t the best to articulate his words in English but he really needs to come teach these men to be men and good fathers. Also immigrated here when I was 2 years old so I am very ‘American’ but I love my culture. I can’t wait for you to travel more Naz, maybe you’ll feel more in touch with outside cultures that are not the USA.

I absolutely loved this episode. On a similar note, perhaps for the next episode or future one in general, you could talk about the elements of what it’s like to socialize & have friends with white Americans & the differences between how you view friendship & social norms, since as you said, y’all mainly connect with other foreign people. (Coming from a first-generation, bilingual Ukrainian-American person, only American-born person in my fam). Cause this is my lifelong never ending STRUGGLE & would love to hear other bicultural women like me speak about it. Love you ladies 🫶

If you’re Kurdish Iranian, why do you identify as Persian? Persians are different than Kurds? I’m sad that I’ve hear you guys talk about being Persian 100x in your videos but this is the first time I’m hearing you say you’re Kurdish.

I agree that immigrant parents are a different breed. My father was the same way and always did everything. He could fix the car, build things, and always had the energy for anything his kids needed. If he did not know, he would figure it out.
I think it is from not having the means to out source so they are self taught.
Immigrants have a drive like no other. I always say my sisters and I are the same way. We are always doing more and make it work no matter what
