Wow incredible work, some of us come on boats some of us fly in, some of us willing participants , some of us not so, your paintings, sculptures and your reference to western art its technique and images bring home lived experiences, bringing alive the resilience of the native people of North America to this ongoing present moments.Thank !you.!
Congratulations to Mr. Monkman for this monumental work installed at the Metropolitan Museum. I respect the ambition and scope within the narrative of the paintings. However, I wonder if the ideology of a reverse gaze just perpetuates the limited, cultural constructs that we are trying to overcome? The value of a critique of history is most often enlightening when we are confronted with a perception that alters our awareness of self and 'other'.... Something about the illustrative , message laden self-consciousness of this work, seems to keep us, once again, stuck in our own boat.
It’s only a collaboration if they’re apart of the initial design and overall composition. If they’re just coloring in shapes then they’re simply paid hands. Kinda how apprentices are trained in the basics of construction while the master puts it all together.
Cultural appropriation and revisionist history (Miss Chief, my foot!) at its most banal ... by an 'artist' who didn't paint even a stroke of the paintings.
One of my favorite artists. Thank you for your voice and inspiration.
I love Kent Monkman. Glad to see him getting this recognition.
this human is such an Icon

Just Amazing work by Kent. Love it...
Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this. 🙌🙌🙌
Does anyone know what painting is at 0:39?
Wait, so he has a whole team set up the painting and he goes in and finishes it? Then puts HIS name on it. Isn’t this called a collaboration.
I think this guy is a narcissist

Why place Monkman's doodles in a museum?
Cultural appropriation and revisionist history (Miss Chief, my foot!) at its most banal ... by an 'artist' who didn't paint even a stroke of the paintings.
what.... culture is he appropriating?
haha I am honestly so confused by this comment
Clearly don’t understand the language of art.
So much bad taste, bad painting, kitsch and vulgarity in one place. decadent new york in its best
