  • I've been troubleshooting serial communication problems with the CoCo 3, and decided to see if I could get it talking to my TRS-80 Model 4. In this video, I configure the serial ports in OS-9 and LS-DOS, start a terminal on the Model 4, and start an OS-9 shell on the terminal.

I am surprised that the bit-banger works as well as it does.
Not having a multi-pak, I did a mod to place a 6551 chip inside my CC3. It was in the Rainbow, in some issue. It worked. I hooked up a PC2(PC1500) pocket computer to the Coco, and typed commands on the 1-line screen. LOL!
I have another CC3, and a SDC. I need some kind of serial port for it.

Very cool, the 6551 mod would be quote useful. If you need a real serial port for your CoCo, Ian Mavric made a reproduction of the CoCo Deluxe RS-323 Pak. I'm a big fan of Ian's products, and highly recommend it. I make use of it in my OS-9 security video. I'm not sure if he still makes it, but you can find his site here: members.iinet.net.au/~ianmav/trs80/ There are also newly-made replacements for the Multi-Pak interface at The Zippster Zone: thezippsterzone.com/mpis-coco-sdc-etc/
      Thanks for watching!
