  • Russell Simmons, Mýa, and Waka Flocka sat down for a delicious vegan meal to talk about how removing animals from their plate has changed each of them-and what a vegan lifestyle means for their health, animals, their community, and the environment.
PETA's mission statement is that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way:

So many of my health problems have reversed & now I'm just waiting to conceive our miracle baby and have a vegan pregnancy! Live Not Die LIKE I TOLD THE COMMENTER ABOVE, I USED THE WING SAUCE AND GARDEIN MEATLESS CHICKEN 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣 IF YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO THEN YOU WOULD KNOW! What y'all can do it judge however you want. But what you WILL NOT DO is take my accomplishments away from me. I am very proud of what I have accomplished and how much weight I have lost being that most AA women are heavier ANYWAY AND women that have PCOS struggle to lose weight! I've lost 50 pounds now being vegan... you won't take the pride I have in that accomplishment from me.

I have been vegetarian for 6 years - vegan for 10 months. There IS a mind set change. A peacefulness that comes over you that you can't explain. My makeup, hair products. Shoes, clothes etc are all vegan. And Russell is right - angry vegans give the wrong delivery sometimes. Better to deliver the message without accusations - state facts. I simply state "since being vegan I am no longer on BP meds, asthma meds and I'm happy in my soul. I sleep well, love others and there is simply peace in my life. Thanks PETA - keep spreading the word as will I. 💕

Starla Maurer yes! When people start a conversation with me expecting an angry response from me, I say "I'm happy to give you recipes and invite you over for dinner; you can discover yummy food and we can have conversations about more important and entertaining things; at the very core of how I choose to live my life, I am doing no direct harm to you or my community, so please respect my choice and I'll offer you the same respect."

Yes the biggest problem is meat is the only thing that is thought to people in schools, TV, every restaurant in our communities serve meat, Hardly any vegan options. This is why people only eat meat, the industry makes big money. That's why I started a vegan cooking channel so people can learn about delicious vegan foods. I'm hoping times will change with social media and more people will find vegan foods and foods nature intended for us to eat, not what billionaires want us to eat.

There really aren't people in my section of the black community, speaking out on this and teaching it to the younger generation. I will definitely share this with friends and continue to push them to reform and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Congratulations to them maintaining the vegan lifestyle. Mya hasn’t aged at all. I am currently transitioning to the vegan lifestyle. The slaughtering process is one thing plus it isn’t good for the environment but from all of the research that I have done it proves that animal products can cause all types of health issues. There are many plant based foods that taste good. I don’t even miss eating steak, chicken, ham, etc. Pizza is the only thing that I crave from time to time.

Saving the environment, improving your own health, and preventing animal suffering - there are so many reasons to go vegan:
    • Environment: animal agriculture is the source of 51 per cent of all greenhouse gases and 91 per cent of Amazon rainforest destruction, and it's the number one cause of species destruction and ocean dead zones.
    • Health: eating animal-derived foods can clog your arteries with cholesterol and increase your risk of suffering from obesity, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
    • Animals: a vegan lifestyle is the most effective way to protect animals. You can save lives every single time you eat.

Been 97% vegan for 2 months now. The only thing I'm lacking on is my coffee, I need my coffee with some cream otherwise my day is ruined. Im allergic to soy and almonds so its literally only coconut cream and ricemilk. Both of which dont give my coffee that savouriness I need. Hopefully I end up stopping at some point.

Have you tried oat milk? It can often be overlooked but it's really good.

David Fatass Get some coconut milk (in the can), refrigerate it and add just the cream from the top to your coffee.

Cashew milk is creamy like regular cream. Try it.

How can you be allergic to soy or almond and not allergic to cow's milk? Cow's milk is the most common allergen among Asians, Hispanics and African Americans and most don't even know they are lactose intolerant. Cow's milk is the most allergenic "food" of all. Have you done an actual allergy tests on soy, almond, etc?

I literally have the same story! Vegan since May, but if I get into a situation where I really want coffee and don't have access to vegan creamer, I'll use the creamer D: But we are making *progress* like Mya said!

Veganism is a good concept, but please beware before going on the diet make sure you have a healthy gut and no absorption issues. I went vegan for 1.5 years and I gotten B-12 deficiency.

    • @dadaTunes
      @dadaTunes 7 років тому +6

Mika Colin You need to take a B-12 supplement.

the prototype I took B-12 injections once a week and was still experiencing B-12 deficiency symptoms. When you have an absorption issue its hard to absorb Iron and B-12.

how would you fix that because I went vegetarian and for about 3 months I always had a bowel movement in the morning but it was always diarrhea.

patgreenok The best way is to eat a clean diet, do some blood work to see if you have any deficient in any vitamins, and go to a gasterologist if the problem persist so that you can get a colonscopy to see if there's any underlying issues. Then you can start your game plan to recovery.

most non-vegan also need to supplement with B-12. I take B-12 but unfortunately it makes me break out. Apparently the amount of B-12 in most pills they sell is too much and a lot of people get break out, so I'm taking less these days but still supplementing with it at least once a week. I also get it from Whole Foods almond milk which is fortified with B12.

My goal is to become vegan and at the moment I am slowly fazing meat out of my diet and am currently eating a “pescatarian” diet and hoping to go vegetarian very soon then vegan by the end of the year. It is very hard for me as I’m from a country where people would chose to eat all meat rather than vegetables 😰 but I’m trying my best.

This is so awesome!! I've been vegan since Nov 2016..one of the BEST decisions I've made in my life. My husband and 3 children have adopted this lifestyle by learning and by my example. My children are 18,15,and 9 and it makes me so happy they've made the decision consciously on their own. Keep spreading the message. Loved the video!❤

Good to see a hip hop kind of community talking about this. Because often it's a group of people who try very hard to be cool over ethical. I think Russel Simmons is doing a great job at making ethical spiritual things cool by just talking about them logically.

I went vegan because the Bible said so, it was me testing wether what's in it is true or not. Needlessly to say, I felt healthy again, like when I was a youthful teen that seemed to recover from all the bullshit I did to myself. I eat meat every now n then at family gatherings and I always regret it, instantly feel lethargic and shitty, and start smelling bad. When your vegan, you don't smell like you do eating meat. Anyways now that I see the impact on the invornment, the parasites and bacteria, how it responds to your gut microbes, how it affects your veins and causes inflammation in your body, how the saturated fat blocks sugar being absorbed into your muscles and body leading to diabetes etc could go on but the point is I was a vegan hater, until I got sick and tired of being sick and tired and tried it, now that I see everything I thought about it was a lie being ignorant of the facts and actually testing it on myself with real Whole Foods. Not shitty vegan processed foods. Made all the difference for me.
