    So I have 16 340i and you have convinced me to replace with the champions! No doubt......I’m at 32k and at 29k I flashed a BM3 stage 1 tune with no mods. I heard from a lot of people that you don’t have to change plugs with a simple stage 1 tune? But I’ve also heard some say you should immediately change plugs with even a stage 1 tune? So that’s my first questions
    Second question is when plugs are changed should you also change ignition coils as well? My next oil Change is at 35k and I’m pretty much convinced at 35k I should change plugs ( if I wasn’t tuned I guess I would wait til around 50k ) .......

    I like your channel
    I have a 16 340i xdrive with only the BM3 stage 1 .....stock everything else
    I was definitely interested that Dinan carbon fiber intake so I emailed PTF asking them about using the aforementioned intake with my already flashed stage 1. They responded saying leave the stock air box don’t use any intakes...and that PTF doesn’t recommend intakes for either stage 1 or stage 2!!! I could of copied and pasted from there website where hey actually DO recommend an intake for both stages! Maybe they changed their philosophy and didn’t update the website?
    Anyhow that was a good point to reflash after intake installation...did you notice any increase in mid to top end power? I know the sound isn’t much louder which is good. Why would PTF be so against adding an intake? Especially the Dinan one which simulates the stock one?
    Also in regards to spark plugs. If I stay stage 1 and when I finally do my plugs should I just replace with the stock ones? Also I’m at 30k and figure changing them at 50k....I thought that would be a good number to change them. I mentioned replacement with stock ones simply because I don’t think a stage 1 340i has enough HP to justify one step colder?
    Thanx

    • @kern417
      @kern417 4 роки тому +1

      When they say not recommended, they mean that Intakes aren't needed and don't add much power. Some intakes that don't have an enclosed box can actually reduce hp. Dinan is fine but didn't make the car any faster in my testing.
      Replacing with stock plugs is fine.

    • @ChevyFlora
      @ChevyFlora 3 роки тому +1

      yeah the intakes doesn't add any HP which is why they probably saying they didn't recommend. I run an MST intake (closed box) on mine (same exact car as you) and it literally didn't add any HP. Kies Motorsports did a dyno video on it. The induction sound is all you get from it which really changed driving the car for me haha. I love it. And TRUST me, do that catless Downpipe and go to stage 2 bm3. The car is so much better.

    I was watching this and just two questions.
    About the last NGK that were recommended for N54, N55, etc for being colder. Isn't the connection the same than the champion spark plug for the b58? Al the spark plugs in the video has the same connection except the NGK for B58 or am I wrong?
    And another question. Mahle has forged pistons for B58 that lower the compression and theorically you can install them on new and old b58. On older engines you would lower compression to the same on the new B58 (10.5:1). Would be better in this situation to use the newer B58 spark plugs?

    • @kern417
      @kern417 3 роки тому +2

      Not sure what you mean by connection but just use the plugs designed for your car
      There's no need to drop the compression in your engine and no need to change plugs

      @jurjito 2 роки тому

      @@kern417 Sorry, youtube didn't notified me of the answer.
      With the connection I mean that you say in the video that we shouldn't use the NGKs that were recommended for the older N54 and N55 because the metal conenection in the upper part of the plug, the part that connects to the ignition coil is different and the connection would be worse.
      But watching the video, the connection of the older NGKs and the Champion for the B58 Gen 1 is the same. So that shouldn't be a problem.
      About lowering the compression...I meant, in case you wanted to install the mahle forged pistons. Because Mahle only has forged pistons with 10.5 to 1 compression. So if you want to install mahle, it's the only option for the gen 1 b58. Couldn't be possible to install them?

    Hey Kern! I’m having a problem holding consistent timing across all cylinders. I have the 1st gen B58 with stock NGK plugs. I’ve replaced the plugs with oem NGKs with stock gaps. I have access to 93 Octane fuel and running a 91 octane map because my timing was really bad and had a knock sensor with the 93 ots map. Any ideas of how i can clean up timing? Im using shell vpower 93 if that helps. Only mod i have is high flow down pipe.

      Just sent some logs to your IG if that helps. In some instances its pulling more than 3 degrees timing in some cylinders. Im assuming next steps would be adding e85 or checking my air filter someone mentioned to me. Seems like re-gapping plugs is not needed but open to your thoughts. Feel free to respond here or IG. Another great video! I went from fairly new stock plugs to the TU plugs and i got a good increase in throttle response. The car just takes off with little throttle. This is mostly part throttle but full throttle was better too. Gas mileage went down. I felt a slight delay when quickly going full throttle sometimes then it just goes fast. Car was slightly too responsive so I gapped them down to about 0.22 which solved both issues. The plugs didn't solve timing corrections though. My theory behind the responsive throttle is the higher compression engine with a plug tip firing deeper in the chamber. Could also be quicker burn rate. Running stg 2 hpfp MHD.

    • @Addselwyn

      What are your timing corrections like

    • @brakthru2
      @brakthru2 3 роки тому +2

      @@Addselwyn it really depends. Not too bad on stage 1 93 octane map but corrections can happen on any map usually in my case due to DME managing traction even with DSC off. Some days corrections can be pretty bad until DME adapts to conditions like weather and road or traction conditions. I'm on a custom e60 tune now and it's quick but corrections can be aggressive in higher gears like 4 and 5 until DME adapts and things look better. Lower gears not so much corrections. Usually, corrections occur when I punch it 3500-4k rpms right where torque is really high and wheels want to spin. If I start really low in the rpm like 2500 4th gear pull, it can be better at times. It seems the better roads I'm on gives me the best logs. Very difficult to get rid of them because DME uses ignition to reduce power to the wheels in certain situations. Some tuners are reducing knock sensitivity. I don't think it's worth it. I've learned to ive with it. Hopefully, some torque or throttle limit table will be discovered to help this in the future.
