  • UPDATE 2: please watch my latest video - • Update #2 Redcat Gen7
    UPDATE: I'm switching my knuckles out for E10's, may eventually try some SCX10 knuckles. The driver's side knuckle rubs a little more than I wanted and I wanted metal ones, the RS10 did not have any metal options.
    I've taken parts from a Redcat Rockslide RS10's steering and put them on my Redcat Gen7, the difference is amazing!
    I did not order these parts, but I think these are the same parts I used. You might need to pick up screws to go in the knuckles or drill them out a bit for the Gen7 screws to go through.

    Steering Linkage (part# RCT-T003):

    Been watching all kinds of videos on upgrading the steering waiting for mine to come in the mail I noticed since the years have gone by they fixed all the steering issues that I've noticed 🤙

    Just bought a Everest Gen7 Pro and there was no steering mod needed because they now come stock with the high steering arm and the front steering bar is now curved around the pumpkin. My Gen7 does 3' diameter circles at full power stock out of the box!
    Looks like Redcat is listening to all the comments they are getting. Your videos are one of the reasons I decided to buy my Gen7, keep up the good work!

      Jeff Gould What? Man that pisses me off! I just ordered one off amazon last week and have been working on it because this issue. Had to dremel off the nub on steering knuckle and bend the linkage to get more clearance on the pumpkin. I must have got the old version. My box was beat to hell when I received it, they didn’t even take the time to package it separately in another box. Really bad experience from the amazon seller.

    Great info on the steering. That's the only thing that's kept me from getting a gen 7

      CRAWL HARD RC Beef Tubes is supposed to be coming out with an axle, if it's pumpkin is smaller, that will resolve a lot of the steering problem.

    Very good video i was looking at the Gen 7 for purchase and researching and did noticed that steering was an issue and i was already racking my brain to figure out a better way to mod the Gen 7 but this video is great, thanks you just solved one of my concerns. The Redcat gives more bang for the buck in my opinion.

      I've since upgraded to Everest10 Knuckles, but Redcat has finally made some for the Gen7 and there are some high steer ones coming in January (along with some other aluminum "hop up" parts. I would wait for those, unless you are just really chomping at the bit. In the mean time, you could shave the nub on the stock plastic knuckles, it helps. Here's a link to the hop up parts page for the Gen7's: goo.gl/Ys4Eoy

    • @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860

      On the bottom of my remotes they both say they comply with part 15 of the FCC Rules. There is a TX####### number on the remotes as well but that is unique to each controller. I hope that is what you were looking for.

    That is really an elegant solution!!!! Steering HAS been the most trying issue. I'm a Retired Auto Technician, toe-out would bug me - but it's easy enough to just cut a little off of the end links, to shorten that Rod some.
    The BIG news coming has GOT to be Redcat is soon to release *Portal Axles* for the Gen 7!!! Much like the TRX-4, but of course, NOT a King's Ransom to buy, and locked Diffs only. Still, that will be AWESOME!! 👏👏👍👍 Redcat wants to be a serious player.

    • @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860
      @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860  6 років тому +1

      I was probably one of the first 10 to sign up for the portal axles! Since this mod, I switched to E10 knuckles and then to the high steer kit Redcat came out with. The high steer kit really is the best way to go, then just get the aluminum knuckles and you have a pretty strong steering setup as well.

      It's too bad that Nobody makes aluminum E10 Knuckles.... HOW many have been sold???
      I missed the "lottery" to be on the list for the introductory Deal. I have to wait for the sticker shock when the regular production ones come out.

    • @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860
      @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860  6 років тому +1

      I have aluminum E10 knuckles. If you see my newer video(s) they are the red ones. But now they make aluminum Gen7 knuckles or the high steer kit (which is almost the same price and you get better steering, you may want to dial back your dual steering rate though.)

    • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks
      @CarminesRCTipsandTricks 6 років тому

      Really?? I've seen a couple of Videos on the High Steer Knuckles. Although very impressive, for some reason, it looked like your trick in this video, makes even more Steering Angle. Even more than a SCX10 II !!
      I do appreciate the benefits of the High Steering, and the added Pumpkin clearance is definitely a plus. I'll look into it more....

    • @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860
      @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860  6 років тому +1

      It's probably about the same, the high steer kit may give a little more, but I've not done both side by side. I know both provided enough steering to make the tires rub the springs on the shocks.

  • @joequimby5225

    If you want to get a bit more turn AND return your tow in to a more parallel position, give that connecting rod between the front wheels a slight outward bow. You will bring the wheels back into alignment and get more clearance on your pumpkin.

    • @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860

      Joe Quimby I've thought about doing that, but it is just barely toed out and I may still be making more front end mods.

      The RS10 link is quite a bit longer. Currently I have one of them bent and am using Everest 10 knuckles. I would highly recomend waiting on the high steer kit coming from Redcat January 23, 2018: www.redcatracing.com/180090S

    • @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860
      @jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860  6 років тому +1

      I think they do or maybe even more. I have to limit the steering on the controller so I don't eat into the shocks with my tires. That being said, the Hyrax tires are probably wider, but my daughter's truck had to be dialed back as well. Here is a link to the Redcat E10 knuckles, they seem to be out of stock at Redcat, but maybe you can find a local or online dealer with them: www.redcatracing.com/180002. As for the steering links, I'd see what you need, I used RS10 links, because that's what I had, but the tires were a bit toed out, so you might get away with the stock arm (or the one with the high steer kit) with a couple shims.

    I paid $240 from tower hobbies. Fixed some of my steering issues but my biggest complaint is ground clearance. It hangs on things on my backyard track that I never knew where there. I've got a cheap RGT truck that out performs this one. Also the pins in u-joints are wallowing out. It has become a shelf squatter. Not fun to drive anymore. When a $130 truck can outperform this one, well you can see my frustrations.

      I do not know, I was able to use the parts off the RS10. That being said, I'm switching my knuckles out for E10's, may eventually try some SCX10 knuckles. The driver's side knuckle rubs a little more than I wanted and I wanted metal ones, the RS10 did not have any metal options.

      I don't know. Not sure if there is a way. The best I understand, you bind the remote to the receiver, so in theory there isn't much of a need to know the frequency.

      IDK. The E10 fit on the Gen7, so I'd think they would work the other way around. As SCX10 knuckles, I know with modifications they would fit on the Gen7, so I'd think they would fit on the E10. I hear the Gen7 high steer kit will fit on the E10.

I hope this video shows that with just a little effort and maybe a few dollars, you can take a pretty good truck and start making it into a great truck. Don't get me wrong, what you pay for this truck, it is a good truck. If you start crawling with buddies that have $400+ Axial trucks, you will feel a little out classed. I find half the fun of this hobby is finding the parts and pieces to keep improving the truck!
