NC Box Turtle Laying Eggs

Because of a drought in NC I had to water my lawn. Apparently the soil was just right for the mother box turtle to lay her eggs. Unfortunately the ground dried out so hard we feared the baby turtles would not be able to dig out. We rescued the turtles and will hand raise until we can release. Also see:

I had lots of box turtles in my yard growing up. We had one come back every year for 12 years and it mostly chilled out in my moms garden, but I never got to see a single one lay eggs. I did how ever see lots of babies. Awesome video.

Thanks for wonderful video ... I would do the same in my neighborhood to help species ... my neighbor found a baby in her yard so they are surviving here despite habitat loss

Wow that TURT is working it!! I hope my big female will plop some eggs down in the Spring. My male turtle bred with her many times. I don't know how it works.
TURTS have a lot of similarities/mannerisms with toads.
