I have many friends & fellow riders who would be called "RUB's". They have wanted to have a bike and ride all their lives, but instead chose to work hard, put their family first, buy a house, put their kids through college, and now finally they are in the position to follow their dream & put themselves first for once. I respect that a hell of a lot more than some dude who puts himself first & buys a nice bike while his family isnt taken care of.

Word , and some of us are a little younger and had our asses handed to us, so we have some physical limitations. And I would rather raise my kids right, now. So I know they have some heart and grit. Although not cheaper than child support. So I have to do what I need to do with family. Meaning family consumes my time. Someday maybe my family will be up on two too.
I love to ride as often as I can.

I realized that a sign of a real biker is someone who follows a code of stopping for a motorcycle on the side of the road to see if they are okay and even helps them out for free. Or pulls over to remove road debris that can endanger a bike rider. A community of people that don’t know each other and separated by race help each other especially in need.

This comment made me think of something I haven't thought about for a minute. I was on my way home from work, about a 1 hr drive on back roads, and as I was coming to a "T" intersection and older gentleman laid his bike down making the turn to come my opposite direction...I instantly stopped in my lane blocking traffic (of which there was none) and helped him pick up his tools and gear. We stood his bike up after I made sure he was ok, shook hands and went about our business.

My friend JD died in winter weather wearing his lined riding overalls. He swerved to miss a deer and ran into the woods and hit a tree 17 years ago. He loved to ride year round in Maryland. He was the real deal. I'm still trying to get my old ironhead going. Never cared for other opinions. I remember a few years ago being at the dealership buying a couple of bolts. That's all they had I that would fit my old bike. Some guy bragging about his Dyno readings on some graph paper. And told me I needed to buy a real bike and not just the t shirt. I ignored him. I had just modified a rear line brake bracket from a dishwasher bracket from Lowes. And wasn't interested in his overpriced ride. It was nice. But whatever.

My old man got the 3 things he wanted in life. 1 to ride with me and my brother.when he and my mom were together they both rode their own bikes, so i guess it was his thought to complete the circle by riding with me and my brother. 2 to not grow old, he was 42 when he died. So he hadn't gotten old when he passed. And 3 to die on a bike, he mis-calculated a yellow light and french kissed the door post of a van a week after riding with me and my brother, no pain, he died on impact. He had 3 bikes. I got the 650 maxim my brother got the 400. We were out riding the next day to remember him. You get the three things in life you want, you cant ask for more.

What is a real biker?, its someone that owns a bike and rides it. You said it all and summed it up nicely. I bought my 1st motorcycle when I was 59 years (I am now 60) old it's a BMW touring motorcycle. My wife and I now ride 2 up all over the place and really enjoy meeting new people. I consider myself a real biker for the above stated reason. Stay safe out there and enjoy the ride and thanks for another dose of reality. The RUBes came out of their office cubicles in droves when Harley came out with electric start. I can't tell you how many wimps used to ask me "Is it hard to kick"? They feared buying a bike and then finding out they couldn't start it. Some did buy a bike only to find out that kicking was only part of it. Getting the throttle setting and choke just right to match the air temps was an art.

Very interesting topic brother and this what I want to say I have been putting money on the side for my brand new bike for many many years finally I got beautiful Street Glide Special and may I look like a poser from the city but I'm not and I really don't like to be dirty..... I'm driving a semi for a living so I have no time to ride all the time.... but when I do I do around the country the last one was 11,000 miles in 21 days.... I don't have cut and I don't wear any patches simply because I cannot contribute to the club life any time with my lifestyle but I have respect for everybody especially who I see on a two-wheels you will get from me tank of gas if you need it and help if u in bad situation....do I real biker I'm not sure and don't really trying to put tags on me and anyone...

I really like your philosophy and especially when you say “ we all have been influenced by something or someone “. Very true, enjoy what you have and don’t rip on someone cause they’re into a style that they like but you don’t. When I go to a bike show, I don’t want to just see road kings cause that’s what I ride, I like to see a variety. Keep doin what you do and let’s all be true to ourselves. I'm with ya, to me the whole "biker" culture has just lost its sight on what being a "biker" is, its about the love of riding, its about the freedom to just be who you are without having to fit some label (ANY ones labels), its about a brotherhood of like minded people (as far as the love of riding goes) it's about accepting the difference personalities.. its NOT about pushing YOUR ideas or YOUR views on what YOU think a person should do or not do.. sure there are lines of respect you shouldn't Cross but for the most part live and let live...

I absolutely agree. And this this also applies to anyone, do what you want to do and respect others who do it their way. Don't put yourself above someone else because it degrades others and you are trapped in a treadmill because there are allways others who will be 'better' than you. And it's not what you ride, it's where you going to. In life and on the road.

I'm not a biker I ride on 18 wheels but I think everyone should know how to fix their ride. Not for any image but to better understand and take care of their ride. No matter if you ride 2 or 18 wheels or a soccer mom van. How to replace a tail light, fix a flat, oil changes etc it makes you a more aware person and you may come across tips and tricks to repairs from other people and then you can pass that knowledge on or help someone on the side of the road. Oil stains can't make you a rider, being clean and fresh can't make you a rider it's what you do that makes you a rider. If that makes any sense

Equate a "real biker" with being an Alpha. What's an Alpha male? It ain't a dude that can throw a refrigerator over his shoulder. It's a man that takes care of business. A provider for his mission. What mission? It's subjective. A club member providing for his club and community is a real biker. A Father and husband taking care of his family is an alpha male, real biker. The man raising money and awareness for a cause. The dude taking care of business and riding a bike is a real biker. Dirty hands is clean money, yo. Real.

The bike is my refuge. Sometimes just want to be alone; sometimes like to ride with folks. Don’t care to be called a “real” biker. I’m polite. The Super Glides and Low Riders influenced me as a kid 40+ years ago. My current bike reflects that. I wear some gear; my stuff serves a purpose; don’t have to perfectly match; don’t want to look like something I’m not. I want to ride well and try to get better. I beware the large group rides with strangers (who may be dangerous AF). I don’t want to be interviewed about what I do for a living on a group ride. I don’t want to group ride on 4-lane wide open from light to light. I mostly ride alone but do have a few people I like to ride with. Don’t care about RUB’s. Don’t automatically make assumptions about “bikers,” as some are fine people. I don’t care about living a lifestyle. I do respect the handful of guys I’ve met who can really ride. Best reward I seek is that feeling of riding a beautiful piece of road well. Sometimes I pray to Jesus for a safe ride, and I often thank Him went I put the bike up.

I’m originally from SoCal, but now live on the east coast & you’re 100% right - people out there will tell you that there’s no such thing as “riding season”, but they also don’t have 20 degree days and corrosive road salt to deal with. What they always forget to mention though is that they can have 120 degree summers & riding in that sucks just as bad. We actually built shitboxes out here so we can still ride in the cold months without worrying about tearing up our #1’s with road salt. They’re not pretty, but we’re riding ‘em! I came up and gravitated to the hard tail chops originally, but eventually wanted a bagger for the longer multi state stuff. When I moved out here, I brought my hardtails with me & people always trip on them because they have no rear suspension, front brakes or any instrumentation. They’re also a lot harder to ride out here with all the potholes, so suspension has become my mainline. It’s always been kind of fkd to me how the chopper guys talk shit about the baggers & Dynas, while the bagger guys talk shit about the chops & Dynas. You never really hear the Dyna guys talk about other bikes though - maybe because Dyna guys usually also either own other HDs and love ‘em all. Anyone that’s never jumped on a Dyna needs to ride one & you’ll see why people love them so much IMO. Too much time wasted by too many to throw shade on everyone else out there. I’m no expert, but I can remember when the lifestyle wasn’t being overrun with those who look at it as a fashion trend. It seems like more often than not - posers are the ones fighting over who’s more real. The MC’s & 1%ers do their thing & don't look for acceptance from anyone, while everyone else fights amongst themselves over who’s “also pretty cool” lol. I just laugh at those guys and mind my business. Been my experience that unless you’re a complete dipshit, the 1%ers and MC’s are some of the nicest dudes around - it’s the wannabes that fk up your day. They’re like baby rattlesnakes sometimes. Ride your shit and do it with integrity, respect and humility. No one else really cares anyway. ML&R dig your channel - always a ton of good information #GHOST

I am in Eastern Canada, and we have a shortish season, usually, if you got good riding gear, 8 months, from March to November. I so love to ride. Am 73 yrs old now and have been riding since '83. I've been in a club, but it wasn't for me, I just want to ride, not have to be Gere or there, wear this or that. The love is the joy of being 100% in charge of my survival and hanging it out there. Love my Fatboy bagger, had for 10 years. Anyway, thanks for these videos, like to meet you someday and ride with you a ways. Stay safe! Like your gear.

I think there are categories of riders. You have weekend riders, fair weather riders (who only ride on a nice sunny relatively warm day), motorcycle enthusiasts, and then there is a level where they are looking to become a hard core biker. And they are learning what that means for them and are embracing that lifestyle. Finally at some point you just realize that one day you are a hard core biker, and it dawns on you that you love the life more than air, and don't give 2 shits what anyone thinks of you and you don't waist your time judging others who are on there journey. As far as RUBs, I appreciate that they love their bike so much that they spend lots of money fixing it up and then sell it for a significant loss, so that the rest of us don't have to waist our money to have a nice custom bike.... LOL. Another great video Sose. #Ghostin

I've been around the fringe of biker culture for awhile. The thing that trips me out is all the gate keeping that goes on.
Kinda always felt like if you were out there doing your own thing , riding on twos that's what it's about. Leaning into whatever it means to YOU.
Now that my daughter is grown and enlisted in the military I've been interested in finally getting a bike and getting some road time. I like traveling and just doing my own thing. Not interested in politics or the tastemakers.
I appreciate the knowledge and perspectives of these videos as it helps me to understand the principles and values that others may hold and how others may operate.
