The live recording of this concert was one of the first cassette tapes I ever bought, back in early 70's. MANY years later I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with Bonnie, and she even sang with me on stage. I asked her if she remembered making this recording and she asked me, "you mean of all the songs and records I'm on THIS is the one you remember?" I told her, it was the only mistake I ever heard her make, at least musically! We remained in touch until shortly before her death. She was a truly remarkable and classy lady and I miss her.
Bonnie developed dementia and Alzheimer's Disease over time and died of it. I wonder if this was an early sign of it creeping up on her. BTW, this was the first album I ever heard of Merle(and Bonnie). I've loved it ever since. I'm not a singer but I can still sing along with most of the songs on this album including the inflections and embellishments used on each one! I wish there was a video of this concert.

One of the greatest songs of all time.
and to think the lyrics are from Woody Guthrie, a person many would have labeled a commie!!

Absolutely magnificent . You could not set it up if you tried, both ultimate professionals and is all over modern " country " music.
Brings back beautiful memories.
Thank you for posting.
Love this song!!... Does anyone have it by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard?
This is priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
awesome to the max
this is a great album, Merle was in his prime when this was made..as for Bonnie...well that's another story...lol
I love it
The bloodthirsty audience applause as she sings, "there's one less Philadelphia lawyer in old Philadelphia tonight" adds to the hilarity.
@headredbone You can't compare Bluegrass with this. it's a totally different style of music.
LOVE IT
Originally penned by Woody Guthrie, and made very famous by Rose Maddox and the Maddox Brothers..
Very good...
@ctbalb Flatt and Scruggs was even better!
