  • You just might learn something by watching this way of shoveling snow. Snow about 8" deep, temperature 28 degrees F. Cold and windy!

Did not expect the views of my snow shoveling video to jump like this! Thanks for the comments and likes everyone. And yep that's me playing fiddle in the background. I'm about to turn 73, still shoveling (but getting help from my son!) and fiddling.

You play that fiddle like a dream the sound is so Beautiful. I’ve always wanted to learn to play but they tell me that I can’t. It broke my heart 😢. They say that cause I can’t move my first two fingers the way I would need to and I’m right handed. Even though I’m not able to play I still love listening to those who can. Much love

We moved to Arizona nine years ago so we don’t have snow anymore. Most of the time I don’t miss it. On occasion I remember going out late at night to shovel, no people, no cars, just moonlight and the quietly falling snow. Good memories. 😀

Indeed! There was an experiment, I forgot what exactly, but what I recall is that as people get older, their bodies start to optimize their movements. So what young'uns do through brute force, older people do through cunning.

These bent handle shovels are great for us old guys! I am 75, live in Maine, and shovel snow all the time...often heavy wet snow. One trick I don't see in this video is rather than hefting a shovel full of snow I often take a medium, bite with the shovel and then just either drag the shovel back towards me and the area where I will be depositing it rather than lifting the shovel and tossing the snow a much greater distance. In other words drag/slide the shovel closer to the spot where you will empty it. Saves a lot of heavy lifting and tiring tossing!

The best way to clear snow by hand is to use a snow "scoop", which pushes and scoops the show, and then you tilt it back and slide it over the snow to where you tip it and dump it. I started using one in my home state of Alaska, in my youth. Then spent 16 winters in northern Illinois, using a snow scoop all winter, every winter. The beauty of it is that you never have to pick up the snow, you just slide it.

I'm almost 68 and that's pretty much how I do it, except with a driveway that's 100 ft long I might widen it a little bit each day instead of all at once. I have also joked about having all of my neighbors park in the driveway then pulling out after the snow stops. We'd all pull to the same spot along the curb and the brush the cars off into a pile.

This is one of the major reasons I moved to South Texas after I retired. Shoveling the driveway in the cold is no fun. This must be early in the season, by early March I had four or five foot mounds on each side of the driveway. And the pile at the end of the driveway on the right hand side, that comes courtesy of the snowplows that clean the streets and pushes more snow into your driveway. Bless you old timer I feel your pain.

It would be a step-uncle if they were not related by blood, like the uncle & this person's parent being step siblings.
And the uncle's dad would be a step dad to the uncle if they weren't a birth parent.
All could be options, but by the way it was mentioned I'm betting the uncle & this person's parent are half siblings whom share the same mother with different fathers.
All my siblings are half siblings, and each of their siblings are half siblings to them/eachother as well, but we don't announce that unless details are needed for context.
Same with step-family, we don't really use the "step" title unless context is needed.
Hopefully I explained this well lol, and maybe the commenter will clarify it at some point!
