Mate, new subscriber. I previously owned a kulkyne RTT for 15 years similar. Now I was one of the first to purchase the Drifta Wild Land RTT. Much lighter, 30 seconds to set up, and have a can in under 1 min.
Thanks mate 👍 that wildlands rtt looks amazing 😍 I definitely would have gone something like that except it wouldn't have fitted on my canopy with my current setup and out of my budget lol. So I've had to settle for the old style that takes longer to setup. But overall I still love it 😀
Champ. Saved me from buying the Adventure Kings. For the better base/floor, better ladder, the sky-window and slightly better height profile when packed, I think the 23Zero is worth the extra money.
Someone did comment on my king's rooftop tent review the other day they had fixed a lot of the issues people had been having with an updated version but in my opinion if you can afford the extra $500 then this is far better value 👍
Thanks for the review. After checking almost every RTT out there this one seems like the best value for money and the LST tech is epic. I like how well the tent is made but isn't $5k. How do you find the width? is 1.4m wide enough for two people or do you find that it's just a bit too tight?
Nah 1.4m if fine. We each have plenty of room. But if you've got a wagon & more of a budget then nothing wrong with going bigger 👍 I would have if I could fit
I was going to get a kings rtt. I didn’t because I personally know people who had the kings for a couple of years using it intermittently and they were falling apart and said they wouldn’t buy another & convinced me not to get one. My partner I was with for 10+ years had a Darche panorama 2 which was awesome and was used quite a bit with no issues - I couldnt afford that much being an extra $800+ to the 23Zero. The 23zero offered the quality of the Darche at a way less price and yes I had to save up a bit longer to get the 23Zero compared to the kings. I was in talks with 23Zero for a while before I got the tent as I was unsure if I wanted a rtt or another swag (was using a kings swag for 4yrs before I got the rtt which has been awesome for the price there is still no issues with it however I wanted more ‘living’ space and was sick of mesh hitting me in the face when I slept from the saggy sides). 23Zero answered every question I had thoroughly and never made me feel like I was being pain with all my questions. In the end I ended up ordering the 23Zero Dakota and 2x Bandit 1100 swags for the kids as early Xmas presents & they threw in the boot holders for the rtt. I waited 4 months for the rtt because of supply issues with covid but it was worth the wait. My partner and I have been sleeping in the 23Zero RTT almost every night since September 2020, in my parents back yard as rental houses are so hard to get atm with a 3% vacancy rate where I live - it’s gets setup every afternoon and packed up every single morning before I head off to take the kids to school. So far no issues except the Velcro that holds the sides down when packed up is starting to go fuzzy so is losing its stickiness - probably due to my user error as I got lazy and wasn’t using the d buckles correctly to hold the tent together and would just pass it through around and down instead of threading properly through the d buckles for tension and issue 2 has been the LST has slightly peeled off the canvas where the awning pole folds up in the tent and the black clips have rubbed against it. Living in NQ we have had some torrential downpours and no leaks. Extremely happy with the tent, the price and the customer service from 23Zero. I am with Paul and say the extra $500 is worth it compared to the kings.
Glad to hear you have had such a great experience with 23zero 😀👍 I'm not sponsored by them just really love their products & want to share my opinion with everyone 👌
Thanks mate 👍 it's quite easy to pack up. No the straps are good quality so you can pull them tight without having to sit on it like I had to do with my previous rooftop tent. The bag also covers it very easily. I never have to get up on the roof to pack it up 👍

Unfortunately when it's windy there's not a lot you can do at night to get more sleep. But I prepare by packing anything away that will keep me up all night wondering if it will survive the wind. I fold up my awning, pack anything loose away and close all the windows on the rooftop tent. I also use ezyanchors to hold everything down so I don't need to worry about pegs lifting & not holding during the night. You still hear the wind flapping the rooftop tent but at least you have peace of mind which makes it easier to zone out & forget the noises
So glad I have come across your channel I am looking for a roof top tent and had originally thought of a kings.. so glad we have UA-cam!! I do have a question though can I mount this on my roof racks over the canopy? I see a lot mounted on the back over the tray canopy.
Roof racks on your car? Check the load capacity of your particular vehicle with your dealer to make sure your roof racks can handle the weight aswell as the website of the brand roof racks you have to check out their load limits. But it is possible. It makes sense to put the weight in the middle of the car to even out the weight evenly over the vehicle increasing your cars handling. Just run those checks first 👍

It takes about 5 minutes to pack up and setup. It does get annoying settings it up each day when travelling but unless you want to spend around $4,000 minimum on a hard lid rooftop tent every rooftop tent with a soft top takes the same amount of time to pack up. Yes unfortunately all soft top rooftop tent's flap in the wind. But at this price point there are limitations. My new camp king industries rooftop tent makes absolutely no noise at all but it cost $9,000. So depends on your budget as to what features you'll get out of a rooftop tent
@@Campingdownunder yes..but this is a hardshell..I had a softshell, lots of issues with the condensation in the morning to continue travelling, now I have a hardshell, but it is heavier and occupies all the space on the roof..but one death you have to die... ;-)
This 23zero is still a soft top rooftop tent. The main advantage to this rooftop tent is the layer of lst on the inside making it slightly cooler inside and pitch black. Every soft top on the market flaps in the wind unfortunately. But yes although only camp king truly stops all flapping it is quite large on the roof. But in saying that I can fit 100% of my bedding inside at all times. It's the only rooftop tent that I'm aware of that uses solid poles to tension the awning rather than just the typical spring poles everyone else uses which still causes flapping

Great review of the 23 zero I'm glad I found it. I'm just checking and this might be a silly question but the fittings for the Dakota 1400 annex look very similar to the kings 4-man annex. Does your kings 4-man annex attach to your Dakota 1400? I will probably buy the Dakota 1400 rooftop tent but was going to hold off for a bit off the annex to save some money if my kings one will fit it.
This video was made quite a few years ago. I did much prefer the 23zero but it comes down to your budget. The cheaper one still comes with a warranty so it's a personal choice

Question: I would like to attach a Kings 6 man annex to a 1400 23 zero . Do you think this is compatible? Do the zips match by any stretch of the imagination?
Hey mate I did actually do another video on the rooftop tent. I found it great. I have sold it now but only because I'm upgrading to a camp King industries hardshell rooftop tent
Hey mate, love the video! I was just wondering about the condensation vents by the roof, I was wondering if you can close them off or if they let too much heat out. i camp in freezing temperatures all winter and have been screwed over with vents that don't close before.
We're buying our first roof top tent tomorrow actually. That is looks very much like this one you have but it has a different name. Looking forward to many good adventures. Great review mate.
Take the mattress out just in case, close all the windows and hose every bit of canvas and all the seams. Try not to get any water inside on the floor if you can help it. Allow it to dry and repeat. Although with the tropical layer on top of the rooftop tent's I've owned I've never actually had any water come in. It does a great job 👍
If you can afford & fit a hardshell rooftop tent on your roof then that's definitely the best way to go. You can fit all your bedding in it and setting it up takes less than a minute. I've got the camp king industries rooftop tent which is top of the range. Very expensive but worth the investment if you go camping regularly
It's not a rain cover 🤣 it's a tropical layer designed to give an extra thermal layer absorbing some of the heat before it hits the rooftop tent actually cooling the tent slightly. The tropical layer shouldn't be noisy if you've got the poles inserted correctly and if it is very windy you are supposed to close them
I'm not going to compare it to any other brands as they are the only brands I've owned so far. No point making claims about products I've never even owned
Paul first up if you are going to do a review video then review the product. DO NOT do a comparison video. All you did was try to rubbish the kings RTT to try make the 23zero look better for the price. Remember for some people the $500 difference is a lot of fuel and food to go have a good time. Anyone who is getting out there for the first time and with limited finance that want's to get a RTT, kings is a great option, we just spent the weekend out in the VIC high country in ours no problems at all. Remember you are trying to be an influencer so save the BS. I look forward to your long term review
Check out my first review of the adventure kings rooftop tent and also my long term review where I listed all the issues I had with it. Then also read through all the comments and see how many people have had the same issues with that product. There's nothing wrong with starting with something cheap. I actually tell people to do that in most of my videos. But I was trying to make people aware of the differences between the only 2 rooftop tents I have been using. Then people can make up their mind on what features they want out of a product and also what ever their budget allows
@@Campingdownunder I'm not getting into this again with you, go back and look at the comments on your other video. Nothing is built to last anymore, so work out how much fun you had with a product then let everyone know if its value for money. Kings RTT used every weekend for 2 years is good value. if you only used if for 100 weekends and you paid $700 say that's again $70 accommodation costs per weekend. Where would you be able to go and stay for that price. !!!! No one picked up my mistake in maths. Its actually $7 per weekend for accommodation, how could you complain about that

Of course he rubbish's the Kings stuff because it is bottom of the barrel and a good thing to compare to.... because they are so cheap they are tempting to buy. On the flip side, I think it's great that there are cheap products for camping that people can use.... but I prefer my stuff to last 6-10 years, not 2, because you'll just want to buy it again when it's wrecked and then you've spent more money.

No I didn't sorry
Good review, enjoyed watching, what’s the tent weight approximately
Thanks mate it's 57.6kg's 👍
Hey dude, any chance we could get a long term update on how this is holding up?
Sure I can do it in the next couple weeks 👍
At the moment the adv kings is half the price of the 23zero. Is it realy worth double the price?
This video was made quite a few years ago. I did much prefer the 23zero but it comes down to your budget. The cheaper one still comes with a warranty so it's a personal choice
What is the size of this RTT? I’m looking at getting one soon! Any tips on maintenance of it and things to look out for when setting up? Awesome vid mate! Look forward to seeing more of your content 👍
23zero.com.au/product/dakota-1400-roof-top-tent/ not much to do with maintaining it at all. Just make sure it's always completely dry before you pack it up or air it out as soon as you get home to stop mould. But any more questions just ask 👍
Sooo.. I bit the bullet and bought one! I was absolutely sold with your review aha scored it for $1399. But hopefully it’s a better investment than spending $900 on the Kings crap 💩
Well done mate you'll absolutely love it 😀
Could you send me a link to the hex pegs you use as well as supapegs and rope. Thanks 😊
I use ezyanchor products and the review & link are on another one of my videos. The link will give you a discount as well as help support my channel 👍 ua-cam.com/video/E6NUQPO8zCg/v-deo.html
thanks bud also ordered one over the adv kings
You'll love it 👍 love the logo by the way. That's my morning coffee every morning 🤣
G'day mate, not sure if you've had much time to go camping but how's the Dakota tent going for you? Tossing up between this, and a darche intrepidor just not sure on what to go for
We've used it quite a few times already and I can't fault it. It's brilliant. I love finally being able to sleep in past 6am lol
What’s your input on unpacking and packing up the tent in the rain?
I've never had to pack up in the rain so far. I always hang around camp until the rooftop tent is dry enough to pack up
Mate, I love how dark it is in there. Heaps better than the Kings RTT.🍺🇦🇺🍺🇦🇺🍺
I really wish I'd heard of this rooftop tent before buying the kings rooftop tent. I genuinely love it 😍
Well done. Good review. I'm interested after that explanation. 👍🤠
I've upgraded since then to a hardshell but I still rate the 23zero 👍
Yeah I wondered if they might be better. I have a trailer I want to mount it onto. Thanks. I'll keep all this in mind
Question: I would like to attach a Kings 6 man annex to a 1400 23 zero . Do you think this is compatible? Do the zips match by any stretch of the imagination?
A lot of people have asked this question. Sorry I'm not sure. I've owned both products but not at the same time so I'm not sure if they are compatible
still running this RTT Paul? any long term review to come? cheers
Hey mate I did actually do another video on the rooftop tent. I found it great. I have sold it now but only because I'm upgrading to a camp King industries hardshell rooftop tent
@@Campingdownunder oh look at you working your way up the RTT pole 😂 best I go watch this other video then 🍻
Hey mate, love the video! I was just wondering about the condensation vents by the roof, I was wondering if you can close them off or if they let too much heat out. i camp in freezing temperatures all winter and have been screwed over with vents that don't close before.
No these don't close sorry. They are designed to try and reduce the condensation in cold weather but they are tiny so not an issue
just a quick question mate how does it go not being supported on the side does it flex i am 6.3 and 120 kgs
The ladder supports all the weight. I had myself & my partner up in it and it held us fine
Good tent besides if it rains for any period, the Darche would probably stay dry…love what you said at 15:05
I slept in it every weekend and I never had any water come in mine 👍
& also every soft top rooftop tent suffers from condensation unfortunately. Nothing to do with brand
@@Campingdownunder no, I didn’t have any condensation issues in my 23zero Byron.
We're buying our first roof top tent tomorrow actually. That is looks very much like this one you have but it has a different name. Looking forward to many good adventures. Great review mate.
Thank you I hope you enjoy your rooftop tent 😀👍
Hey bud, is that the Dakota 1400?
Yes it is 👍 sorry I forgot to mention that
is this the 1.4 or 1.6m?
1.4
hey man, how do i season a roof top tent? love the vids
@@Campingdownunder thanks man keep up the vids
12 months later... do you still like it or not?
Cheers bro!
I actually upgraded to a hardshell rooftop tent a few months ago but I still rate the 23zero as the best soft top rooftop tent
@@Campingdownunder how does it compare to your hard top as we are in the market.
Cheers
Mad Aussie Adventures
If you can afford & fit a hardshell rooftop tent on your roof then that's definitely the best way to go. You can fit all your bedding in it and setting it up takes less than a minute. I've got the camp king industries rooftop tent which is top of the range. Very expensive but worth the investment if you go camping regularly
What a great review! I know what I’ll be buying in the future.
Do you have you old kings rooftop tent?
No sorry I got rid of that years ago
Thanks , You have a nice tent.
I've actually upgraded again since this video to a camp King industries rooftop tent 👍
Great video mate thanks
Thanks mate 👍
If the tent is waterproof why bother putting on the rain cover which just makes it so much noisier etc
It's not a rain cover 🤣 it's a tropical layer designed to give an extra thermal layer absorbing some of the heat before it hits the rooftop tent actually cooling the tent slightly. The tropical layer shouldn't be noisy if you've got the poles inserted correctly and if it is very windy you are supposed to close them
You should have named the video 23zero vs adventure kings.
I'm not going to compare it to any other brands as they are the only brands I've owned so far. No point making claims about products I've never even owned
Mate of mine had one from 23 zero and had nothing but problems with it ! He turned to darche rtt for better quality and customer service
You are wrong, it will not handle the rain.
Its actually $7 per weekend for accommodation, how could you complain about that
@@shane5156 Some people don't like shit products mate. And Kings are the Kings of lowgrade products. Yeah they're cheap. But they won't last. The world doesn't need more crap in it.
I have heard that 4wdsupercentre have recently updated the rooftop tent addressing most of the issues people have had. Took them long enough but at least they have made the effort. I'm in talks with them at the moment to find out what they have changed and I'll do an updated video. Kings rooftop tent might be worth getting again for that price range 👍
Nothing wrong with this video. It helps us as consumers make a good decision. I've got a Kings RTT and second hand at that. Came with the canopy i bought and i can't complain. Has all the problems and blessings too. This video is for people wanting to move on from a previous product that they've had fun/trouble with.
I like that you compared and gave us something to think about before spending the hard earned cash.
If you like kings and have a great product then sweet. If you're looking to upgrade than this is why we watch these vids. For people taking time out of their lives so that we can share their experience without feeling the pinch in the back pocket.
