I've always loved baseball and its' history, so of course I know the name Hank Greenberg, knew about his 58 homers, coming back from WW2 in time for the pennant run and World Series... and that was about it. Having now watching this documentary, I am deeply, deeply impressed by Mr Greenberg, I had no idea just what he went through, and love the fact that he and Jackie Robinson crossed paths on the basepaths, what a fitting, poetic thing.
The Greenberg documentary is wonderful, but keep the video rolling past the 43 Minute mark to enjoy an equally wonderful documentary piece on Dan Gable.
My Father was a fan of the most obscure of New York's baseball teams, the N.Y. Giants. He grew up not too far from the Polo Grounds in Upper Manhattan. One of his heroes however, was Hank Greenberg of the Detroit Tigers.
There was another Jewish player for the Tigers back in the early 1900s - Claude Rossman. He was a well-above average hitter and fielder (first baseman) who played alongside Cobb and Crawford.
One of the all time greats who made our people so proud!. He was a patriot who served 4 years as a Captain in the Burma Theatre. He lost 4 of his best years serving his country in a battle area..Maurice H

I didn't relate to his religion, or Mays color of skin. It was from the hypocrites mouths that were quick to point out what should not have been mentioned, that I and many others young dreamers would never have known. To me Mr. Greenberg was a great great man.
Greenberg seems like a hell of a guy / ballplayer. The MLB needs to do a better job of showing the teenagers and up, about all of the great player's in the league's past.

Hammerin’ Hank does not get the attention he earned or deserved, especially when it came to his mentoring & friendship of black players.
