@@cloudylyrics5249 you are certainly correct on that one, I claim no comprehension of meaningless, incoherent nonsense on account of the fact that I'm not intoxicated or inebriated, as you clearly are. Seek medical help, you may find yourself having a stroke shortly.
I always loved these pieces, thank you for this excellent version. Debussy making fun of Wagner in the strange middle part of Golliwogg always is enjoyable to me.
these are my favourite set of pieces debussy has ever composed! i tend to stim (eg. shaking my hands, snapping, copying movements and smiling a lot) when i hear really nice noises and these have the childish lilt i always long to hear in piano pieces. your performance in serenade for a doll was incredible! thank you for making my night 100x better.
Yes, it's an amazing and charming piece, and especially good for a recital or performance during winter if you live somewhere cold, it captures the effects of swirling snow so beautifully!
I’m re-learning to play pieces I played over 60 years ago with Madame Beaumme, from the Paris Conservatory. We paid $2 a week, but when she realized my passion for study, she gave me additional piano and voice lessons for free🌟Now, 60 years after her death, i have come back to piano, at WCSU!!! I adore the music program, and have returned to join the current, gifted virtuosos, and am in heaven!!! Thank you, professors and students!❤ Gotta LOVE WCSU🎉👏👏👏👏
Exquisite playing! I wanted to listen to this as background music, but found myself transfixed by being able to follow the score and see how you played simultaneously. I love Debussy's music and I can hear some of his characterisitic phrasing and atonal scaling from the first book of the preludes. I shall return to trying to learn Golliwog's Cake Walk, something I abandoned years ago, but am now energised to return to! Bravo.
You have a god level of skill that one day i hope i will match, I've been playing for almost 5 years now and his performance still amazes me, keep up the work and i wish you were also more appreciated
Been following you for years Paul. Want to get a recital together again after 6 years of just playing for myself. This suite is going to be part 1 :) Will be using your videos to help make technique decisions!
Fantastic video!! I love your tutorials - they're so good Could you make some tutorials on some of Ravel's piano-pieces like Jeux D'eau or some of the pieces from Miroirs or Gaspard de la Nuit? Maybe also with some exercises.
I honestly love the harmonic pedal on impressionist or late romantic pieces. I honestly would like to see you play a Mystic Chord heavy Scriabin piece.
Another brilliant video Paul. Is there another edition of Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum where bar 10 and 54 doesn’t have the G flat on the way down? I only ask because you don’t seem to play it.
First of all, great video, Paul! I'm using it to learn the hole suite. I just wanted to point that I think you're missing something in Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum. I see that you play bars 7 and 8 (0:19) like if they were identic, same as in bars 9 and 10. Notice that there are variations: in bar 8, after the E on the left hand, you should go D, C, B and A instead of D, C, A and F as in bar 7. Also in bar 10 you should go D, C Bb and Ab instead of repeating D, C, Ab and F. It's just a detail but I thought it would help. Thanks as always for all this amazing videos :)
I didn't see that detail till some 35 years later when I decided to revisit Children's Corner Suite. It does make a difference. My professor also told me not to tie the e at :28-30 since there is staccato marking.-still a wonderful performance far beyond what I can do. Also, anyone who can play Chopin's d minor Prélude so well has my total admiration.
Please upload music videos by Carl Czerny, not only have etudes, he also has preludes and leaks even more difficult than Bach's well-tempered clavier, such is the case of Op.400 School of the Fugue, Op. 822 Gradus ad Parnassum , Op.856 48 Preludes and Fugues, even has more difficult than those of Chopin for example the Op.365 School of Virtuoso and Op.756, Greetings Paul Barton
I'm still having trouble with finding the right fingering for pieces which aren't suggested on the sheet. How do you figure out fingering for all these pieces? Is this because of the signature of the pieces' scale, with their specific fingering for each scale? This probably has to do with being an experienced piano player..
I am by no means an experienced piano player (I've only been playing for about two years) but fingering is something you can figure out for yourself pretty easily, a lot of the time. I go against suggested fingering all the time; it's just about finding what suits you while not taking anything away from the interpretation (e.g. don't use a fingering that will force staccato on a legato passage)
I'm no professional but I do teach piano to young students, one of the things that I tell them is that fingering takes quite a bit of time to work out, and the easiest and most efficient fingering will vary from person to person. Another thing is that you should work out the fingering at close to tempo, since what works at a slow tempo may not be as good when going faster. Finally, for some of these pieces (e.g. The Snow is Dancing), I actually divide up the notes between the hands differently than suggested (taking around 8:40 as an example, I play the last three 16ths in each group with my right hand, rather than alternating left and right as written), which is another wrinkle to consider when the hands are playing close together... Good luck!
Can you please do the (preferably difficult) piano version of Once Upon a December by Emile Pandolfi? Thank you very much, these vids help a lot in so many ways.
This is my favorite interpretation until i notice (bar 8) 0:22 right hand downward wrong notes and (bar 10) 0:25 right hand downward also wrong! Obvious mistakes? Subjectism?! Sorry but this is unacceptable!

Strange music. Yet with some really enchanting, contemplative plaintiff moments. Thanks.

OMG! Paul just admitted he was a human being? But he has certainly made the case for the fourth harmonic pedal.
Well hey, I made a mistake too, I meant b flat. 😉
Ah....but in German notation, B-flat = B, and B = H. Hence all those fugues on B-A-C-H.
