  • The Earth Berm Cottage (EBC) is an earth sheltered tiny house with a living roof that we're in the process of building.
In this video we take the cottage from the sill plates to the roof decking. The front (non-bermed) wall incorporates a double stud wall to prevent thermal bridging and provide a better mechanical key for the light clay straw infill.
There's also some hefty beams that if I did my math right should be support a lightweight living roof without a problem.

The drainage pipe going into the bucket idea also stops tree roots growing into the end of slotted pipe

Great work…congratulations on the French drain beneath the foundations, so often neglected in natural building circles.

Thanks! I could see a french drain not be as necessary in warmer climates on a well drained site but it's so easy and inexpensive install during foundation prep I wouldn't skimp.
