I gotta say, the clip of Sam announcing that she was leaving did NOT make me giggle. Big L Jokes aside, thanks for the upload. Saves me digging around to decide what older episodes to rewatch.
I live in Charlotte County, FL, and truly appreciate you posting these as we brace for Milton. I lost my family home here to Hurricane Charley in 2004 so the PTSD my friends and family are experiencing right now is tough . We’re trying to keep things positive and light as best we can and my Mom and Step Dad just had their home and her hair salon flooded from Helene less than two weeks ago, so this one feels particularly cruel. They had to evacuate to my house with their dog, but we were just notified this morning to evacuate, so it’s too late. Our (hopefully) saving grace is that I live in a top floor apartment in a two story building, and we have been through this before with Charley being a literal direct hit to us in Punta Gorda. Our whole town was flattened, we watched the roof tear off our home, had no power for six weeks, my high school was destroyed and had no school for a month, had to go to the other local school for a year where they went from 6am-12pm, and we went from 12pm-6pm. We all lost our jobs, most homes, most businesses. Walgreens and Walmart etc were blown away. Gas was inaccessible for weeks, same for places to go live. Debris blocked the roads for weeks. No water. Our sailboat washed up over the seawall onto our back yard and we had water spouts and tornadoes everywhere. There are still some people living in communities built by FEMA 20 years ago. We didn’t have help for weeks because nobody could get to us, until eventually Red Cross and amazing volunteers started pouring in. Our small town has truly been through a lot, and as awful as it was, it taught us that we will come together in times of need. I saw a sense of community and kindness and some of the most powerful human moments of my life in those months. That’s the one thing giving us comfort now - knowing many of us are the same folks who have been through it before. And these light hearted compilations. Thank you so much ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I cant even imagine the emotional weight of going through all of that, losing your family home in Hurricane Charley, and now facing Hurricane Milton after the recent devastation from Helene. Its incredible how you and your family have found strength in such difficult times, and how your community came together to support one another. Its inspiring to hear how you’re staying positive and looking out for each other despite all the challenges. I hope your apartment holds strong and provides the shelter and safety you need right now. Please know that my thoughts are with you, your family, and everyone in Charlotte County. If these videos bring even a little bit of comfort, I’m so grateful for that. Stay safe, and I hope the storm passes without causing further harm.❤️
Thank you so much for the kind response 😭 Here to say we are SAFE ❤️ Mom’s home and salon are totaled, we lost power for a week, my son’s preschool closed from Monday Oct 7th to Monday Oct 14th, but still required to pay tuition. Between that, my office being closed all last week, the hundreds we spent on extra food and gas and supplies, it’s been financially devastating to most people in our town. But, we’re alive and we’re together. As scary as it was and almost losing a window a few times, I’m grateful we had experience to lean on from Charley and all the other storms here, because we knew what to do and knew to at least be together this time. During Charley, it was projected to hit Tampa 100+ miles from us so we had no warning since it was such a small hurricane, but it made a last minute “wobble” (a term you’ll hear about every hurricane now) and came right up our butt crack into Charlotte Harbor and the canal we lived on. My Dad was at work, everybody was! We truly had no idea back then. We’ve learned a lot and learned that we just have to prioritize each other and not the homes and things in the path of the storm. People have been very harsh on those who didn’t evacuate without understanding that 1) most people affected weren’t in an evacuation zone until the day the storm arrived which was too late, and our highways were completely deadlocked, gas stations depleted from Tuesday-Saturday here 2) I’ve lived through probably 50+ hurricanes here in my life because we get them every season, so if we evacuated every time, we’d have no home and no money to find one. The overwhelming majority of hurricanes in FL are non-damaging. Disasters like this aren’t predictable as much as some think and we were told not to evacuate until hour zero to keep the roads clear for those who must. Aside from the occasional unkind words about our people here, and setting aside the BIG setback in financial safety, we’re safe and we’re starting the road to rebuilding. Any mean narratives I’ve seen don’t compare to how good it feels to see our community come together to help. Much like the h3 community 😭 I just trauma dumped the most lol I’m sorry! I just really want people to get a sense of how unpredictable disasters can be and that a little kindness really goes a long way in these times. Your comment meant a lot to me. I am exhausted of FL and can’t wait to move back to my hometown one day (shoutout UCSC Banana Slugs! Ethan’s hometown too) but until I have the money for that, we’re here and just have to do the best we can. I really appreciate your compilations, and downloaded them all before the storm. Being able to smile and laugh during disaster is a gift. Thank you for keeping your channel so fresh and current for the foot soldiers! Family 🦶
