Why was the one diesel in the middle of the train?

Time frame 6:33 the locomotive was in the middle of the train. Does diesel usually have an engineer and brakeman? Or is it empty? Reason why is because if I do a freight train in Ho Scale I just want to make it accurate because my brother tells me otherwise.

That was the Distributed Power Unit (DPU) and is an unmanned locomotive that is radio controlled by the engineer at the head end. The DPU practice is part of the Precision Scheduled Railroading operating plan
