Biggest Log Possible - WoodMizer LX25 - 26" White Pine

  • Finally found the perfect log to max out the LX25. Nice 10' white pine log was 25.5"x25" at the big end and 25"x23" on the other. Honestly the saw handled it well and no major issues. Fairly straight grain with few knots. Couple things that are certainly at the limit are the log holds in the back which only make it about 1/3 of the way up the log and the log clamp in the front barely makes it and is only about 1/3 up the log as well. On the second cut I removed the cone on the log clamp and got about an extra inch of space. Might be able to sneak in a 27" log if it was perfectly straight.
    One log produced -
    13 - 3/4" x 8"
    13- 3/4" x 6"
    4 - 2" x 3"
    1 - 2" x 6"
    1 - 2" x 8"
    2 - 3" x 5"

Make sure the mill is braced well, over the tighten the blade and make sure it’s sharp. Also if you can debark (I didn’t on this one) but seems to help with the bigger logs.

I am thinking of ordering this mill, this size mill is all my pocketbook can afford, I got some poplar that's 40inches at the big end, 36 at the small end, 25 foot long, I guess I will have to whittle that thing down some to get it on there, that Kohler engine has plenty of power it seems like, enjoyed the video!

Engine has plenty of power and poplar is super smooth to cut. More like cutting pine than oak. Something that big I would try quarter sawing. Split it 4 ways with a chainsaw and wedges.

This video inspired me to try a large Sitka Spruce on my LX25.
It was 31" at largest end and 14' long. Whew! Lots of chainsaw work to make it fit.
I ended up with an 18"X 18" cant and a lot of lumber

That’s awesome. I have been on the lookout for something a little bigger bust must be perfectly straight and yes a chainsaw on the ready. Also pretty much limited to white pine so I can move it by hand.

It may help you square up the log, if you used a "square" before your second cut, and drew a line across the end, then lined up the blade with that. I am just thinking it might make it easier than using that framers level.

@@treemaineiac8766 i saw that. I watched 3 or 4 of your videos and i edit my welding videos myself so most of the time i like to think that i recognize sped up footage.
The thing i noticed was at the end of some harder stuff when the weight comes down on the blade the gantry flexes a fair amount and temporarily comes out of square you pushing on one side only…. But other than that looks like a pretty solid entry level mill!

      @verteup 2 роки тому

@@ZILAwelds Only time you'd need a bigger motor on a sawmill like this is if you bought one of the woodmizers with hydraulic functions on it. 9.5hp is more than enough motor to pull a very thin bandsaw blade through any kind of wood.

Those of us that love saw milling love hearing the natural sound of the mill doing it's job and you have that stupid music mixed in with the sawmill sound...that is as dumb as it gets! This is not a music video! For that I thumbs down your video...ditch the crappy noise and let us hear the mill! Thanks!
