Wow, this was incredibly well done compared to so many other Hunger Games short films, the effects, the props, the editing. What was the budget for this?
##############Spoiler Warning####### I honestly think doing the entire game would have been needlessly repetitious. Most of us who have read the books or seen the movie, already knew how this game was going to end and starting with one tribute's death was more than enough to satisfy the "show don't tell" concept without having to add another bloodbath scene that doesn't really add to the mythology. Starting towards the end of the Game was also a good move, because this was Finnick's story and there's no reason to get attached to a bunch of other tributes we know are going to die anyway. We see Finnick alive and there's enough evidence in the first few minutes to show that he didn't just win by merely tagging along with the career pack. There's a great blend of music and visual effects and the use of camera angles and lighting to tell the story. Then there's the talent you manage to draw to you. Every actor puts in a hundred percent Game and shows genuine skill. Even Rebecca had a bit of a shaky start in the sponsor gift scene, where it seemed like she was just barely memorizing her lines, but in a very short amount of time she gets her confidence and the character comes out in her performance. Then there's your star actor, Caleb Angus. He portrayed the character perfectly as the cool and confident survivor, but with subtlety that revealed a hidden layer of emotion. His quiet promise to return home balanced out with his polite bonding with Adela, knowing full well that this can only end one way. That's the final moment I want to praise you for. It would have been an easy cop out to have Adela killed early so that it would just be Finnick and Tiberius. But having them come out as the final two put more gravity on the scene and gave Finnick's victory a bitter sweet quality, especially when most of us who read the books know the kind of future that awaits him.
What I dont get: in the books they say district 4 is a career district. So shouldn't there be an 18 year old volunteer for that district? Finnick was only 14.
Finnick may have volunteered because he felt ready. But district 4 was also said to be rebellious as they supported the rebellion against the capital, so it’s also possible they train to increase their chances but don’t particularly volunteer, cause if I remuer correctly the district 4 tribute for the 74th games was quite small and not very athletic.
I believe district 4 is kind of really only a career district because unlike the other districts besides 1 and 2, district 4 is actually fed well and have a good chance at winning the games because they know how to fish and use weapons. In the books district 4 is a little rebellious so to they are like kind of a career district but not 100% but that's my opinion.
it's just incrediblely perfect... when I watched it I felt like I was watching The Hunger Games' movies.... congratulations..!! can you make more films like this one..? Thanks...
Not that I don’t appreciate those talented people out there bringing the book series to life, I think they’ve done an amazing job! But the fact that we actually want to see more previous Hunger Games is deeply disturbing... it’s like we’re slowly becoming the audience in the Capitol.
@@thekayb2 in a way yes, the books are meant to show that society enjoys seeing tourture and displeasure if it brings an element of entertainment of course not to the extreme in the movies but to a more downscaled type
AWESOME. Cool effects and cinematography. But I read in the comments that you changed the book version (Finnick capturing tributes with nets) because you thought it wouldn't be as interesting. Althought I enjoyed this film, here's why I think the book story would have been more intriguing: 1. The whole point of Finnick's games is that it shows us the power of the Capitol in contrast to Katniss and Peeta's year where the tributes have control in the end. You could have done some moving scenes where the tributes, especially the Career pack who have trained and volunteered for these games, gradually arrive at the realisation that the Capitol ultimately holds the power and have chosen Finnick as their victor - the Hunger Games are all about politics. It would have made your film multi-dimensional. 2. His popularity - a defining feature of his games - was only briefly mentioned in this film but it should have been featured as a greater element to create tensions between characters (which is what would have happened). The book says that it took a week for the others to figure out Finnick was the one to beat. This would have made for an interesting dynamic - the Career pack not understanding the extent of his popularity but being exposed to it more and more by witnessing his parachutes or noticing he bounced back from injuries. You could have explored the gradual build up of tension within the group of older Careers who expect to win becoming frustrated and eventually threatened by an initially non-threatening 'pretty boy' 14 year old. 3. ^^^ And this idea of creeping up and being a dark horse leading to explosive events is the essence of his character and his life in general. Funnily enough, Annie "crept up" on him which ends in a remarkable love, he gradually collects secrets for years from his 'lovers' before spilling everything to Panem in Mockingjay, revealing Snow's secret use of poison. So the feel of his character in this film wasn't quite as intriguing or true to the books. 4. You could have made Finnick's kills really suspenseful. He captures his victims with a net and spears them - you could have shot it from the tribute's point of view perhaps and used some horror movie techniques to build suspense with a hunter versus prey dynamic. 5. The book doesn't say Finnick was a "quiet kid" who tracks down his prey and kills them. It says he was a Career tribute which means he volunteered and was trained - the Capitol was entertained by him and loved him so he wasn't keeping his head down, sitting on the sidelines. He's also very charismatic in the books and this film didn't quite portray that. Good job overall but it would have been incredible if you'd explored the book version because there's so much potential there in Finnick's story!
Ellen Jackson I'm glad you looked into a lot of things and I understand your point of view. I didn't mean the way he killed in the book was boring, I meant the way it was described was he got a Trident and tracked down his victims and killed them. That doesn't leave a lot for character development and a separate story line to explore the experience of other Tributes in his Games. (Mind you this film only had a budget of $1000 and to create much more story with that little budget is frankly not that doable if you want it to look fairly decent). This short film is just my portrayal of a different side of Finnick with some changes to the story. This is only fan fiction and I like the way my story is portrayed on his character. In my story, I didn't want Finnick to be the very charismatic person he is in the later books. I wanted Finnick to be just like any other 14 year old kid thrown into a vicious arena and not realise why he is so loved by the Capitol. That's one thing I don't like about some other fan fictions where they make him this sly happy kid who's cocky. I do know what happens in the book and I'm not just missing things, I intentionally made them different on purpose to make a different story.
This is so well done! It's interesting to actually see the Careers turn on each other, since that's what they always do, yet they never made it that far in The Hunger Games or Catching Fire.
Amazing! Can i just say that the Forcefield looked amazing? It was so colourful and how you made the Capitol Logo new. I see you had a lot of Ideas and they worked! This shortfilm is by ways the best right now. I enjoyed it and I got sad when Adela died. The Music got my Feels. Which I kinda missed was that maybe Finnick sits next to her and doesn't leave her until she dies. Like hold her hand or something. Finnick got to know Adela in this Shortfilm and then he just killed her and leaves her dieing seems kinda strange. But still you got it good. I enjoyed all 18 Minutes and I'm impressed. The Background of the Arena where we see Islands and stuff was just breathtaking. Congratulations and thank you for this Short film. Me and some Friends are in really early stage of planning an little Series. And I would love to get some Tips from you! You made a really good Job and I will Share this so much :) See you next video! -Marcel C. (From Germany)
DgnMusic Thank you for enjoying the film! The reason for Finnick not holding Adela was a conscious choice. He knew when he got the Trident that people were rooting for him to win the Games and he realises that in the end the person he has to be and the mask he has to wear for the Capitol so he can stay alive. After all, only one can survive and the Games truly do never end even after winning. I will be making a behind the scenes mini episode of how it was made very soon. If you follow my Facebook page I will be asking people to ask questions about production and that will definitely help with tips on how independent low budget stuff is done!
So I don't get why Finnick had an ally until the end really... It just doesn't make sense for him to kill her in the end, but it's your story. Finnick had one goal: Get back to his love. I'm surprised he doesn't talk about it much in here it seems... But really, I think it would've been more dramatic, although predictable, if his ally died in his arms and he used his emotions to defeat the last tribute.
Personally, I don't agree but then again this story changed a lot because of a number of circumstances, but overall it's still how I wanted his story to play out with the minimal budget I had. I liked the idea of having him have an ally because I didn't want to portray him as a vicious killer and I think it would have been incredibly cliche to have him win through his anger with the “bad guy”. To me, he was just a 14 year old stuck in the Games like any other kid with some advantage in combat. I don't fully think he just only wanted to get back to Annie. Although I did include a nod to Annie, I don't really think they were fully in love yet as they were only 14 here and because he was such a token of the Capitol, I don't think he would want others to know of who he loved in case they were killed because of him.
When the girl was yelling I felt really bad for her. She's seeing all the capitol citizens are crazy to sponsor Finnick while they have to be extremely lucky to get some grain. She probably knew Finnick had already won the games cause of his sponsors. I also feel so bad for the male tribute who competed in Annie's hunger games. Imagine knowing your mentors love is competing against you. Uk that he's probably not going to help u at all.
Your editing is amazing! The way you edited the seal in the sky for the fallen tributes was absolutely brilliant and smooth. Good job over all guys!!🤗🤗
@@el8174 Yeah, I agree. It shouldn't have been Gale but it shouldn't have been Finnick either. Finnick was like a protective big brother to Katniss and Peeta, they deserved to have their friend after the war. I'm still sad about Finnick after all these years T_T
@@thesilvershining I 100% agree it’s extremely sad that finnick died he really didn’t deserve it at all, right when he got married too, and never got to meet his son

This needs to be a full length film in the cinemas one day. Not just the Games itself but the reaping, parade, training and interviews as well. We need to see more of Finnick's past since he got killed off and has no future
Absolutely loved it, lived up and exceeded my expectations. You pulled it off so brilliantly, especially with the budget you had. I really loved the subtle hint of Annie's presence (I believe) in the film, with the scene with Finn and the rope (bracelet of some sorts was it?) but it was quite powerful, his simple words but so much meaning. Ah, loved it. Great job!
Joshua Chislett but Finnick didn't really know Annie yet. and he certainly didn't love her at this point. I get that youre trying to show him as sensitive, but he was a career. The Finnick we love evolved over time.
OH man, i really wish that there was more hunger games parodies out there like this one, i kept on watching the ending over and over again this is certainly the best one ive seen yet, and I've seen aLOT keep being awesome -girl golden
Great story. Even though its much shorter then Cirrus Quell I liked it more. I also really appreciated that you did not bring back any actors from Cirrus Quell, it was fun to meet new actors and characters. The editing such as the force field and choice of arena type was great. I cant wait to see more from you! I think your going to go far.
Awesome work! This is ridiculously good. I love the acting, locations, wardrobes, props, effects, and cinematography. This film has the whole package and it's apparent that you payed close attention to detail
The girl was probably his first lover.❤❤❤ There was genuine pain when he killed her also she had axes and probably was from district 7 , lumber. I bet you tho she knew he would kill her.
Film itself was great, i loved it. The actor playing finnick was not so great. There was no emotion throughout the entire film and he seemed really bland. Especially at the end when he had to kill his friend, there was literally no emotion put into that scene. When it happened it didnt really have a saddening effect on me like it should have. Overall great film, portraying of emotion and just overall acting of finnicks character, bad
i thought it was more powerful that way and not the cliché heartwrenching look most actors do. the look on his eyes to you is "bland" but for me he looks so dead inside. it's the same reaction when he got the gift he just doesnt care anymore. in a way for me thats alot more darker and sadder
I would immediately run away from the cornucopia and commit suicide. I want a fast and pain free death. ( of course I’ll make it look like an accident so that I don’t get my family killed).
Out of all the fan-films that I've watched, (and that's a lot) this is DEFINITELY the best! So much work and so much effort, and it was totally worth it. I don't know how you did it, but it's AMAZING!!! I literally almost cried at the end. I wish I could make these kind of films!

What I dont get: in the books they say district 4 is a career district. So shouldn't there be an 18 year old volunteer for that district? Finnick was only 14.
Finnick may have volunteered because he felt ready. But district 4 was also said to be rebellious as they supported the rebellion against the capital, so it’s also possible they train to increase their chances but don’t particularly volunteer, cause if I remuer correctly the district 4 tribute for the 74th games was quite small and not very athletic.
hmmm
I believe district 4 is kind of really only a career district because unlike the other districts besides 1 and 2, district 4 is actually fed well and have a good chance at winning the games because they know how to fish and use weapons. In the books district 4 is a little rebellious so to they are like kind of a career district but not 100% but that's my opinion.
I think it said that usually careers are district 1 and 2 but sometimes district 3 or 4 goes with them mostly 4
@@nuriape8874 District 3 was never a career district, district 3 was a rebellious district so the capitol treated district 3 poorly
Can you guys make this with Johanna?
KM91 that would be great
There's a really good one out there but the Johanna looked about 30 and way too tall and muscular to be dismissed as a weakling.
@@jeremyud can you put the link in the comments pls.

I know it's confusing, novella (district 6) on her outfit it looked like a 5
it's just incrediblely perfect... when I watched it I felt like I was watching The Hunger Games' movies.... congratulations..!! can you make more films like this one..? Thanks...
Not that I don’t appreciate those talented people out there bringing the book series to life, I think they’ve done an amazing job!
But the fact that we actually want to see more previous Hunger Games is deeply disturbing... it’s like we’re slowly becoming the audience in the Capitol.
It’s literally fiction.
Don't you get it? It's a reflection of our society already, basically.
@@WillBlindYouWithLight In what way exactly, are we in Hunger Games?
@@thekayb2 in a way yes, the books are meant to show that society enjoys seeing tourture and displeasure if it brings an element of entertainment of course not to the extreme in the movies but to a more downscaled type
@@thekayb2Suzanne Collins herself said we are the capitol
AWESOME. Cool effects and cinematography. But I read in the comments that you changed the book version (Finnick capturing tributes with nets) because you thought it wouldn't be as interesting. Althought I enjoyed this film, here's why I think the book story would have been more intriguing:
Finnick: "It's toxic! RUN!"
Me: oh, yes. Let's run from the *rain* , that always works...
The Gamemakers use hazards to drive the tributes closer to each other.
They’re not trying to outrun the rain.
This is so well done! It's interesting to actually see the Careers turn on each other, since that's what they always do, yet they never made it that far in The Hunger Games or Catching Fire.
I only watch the last bit......
"Finnick, I'm sorry"
*Stab*
"So am I"
Best part EVER :)
shit no its
"Me too"
You made a really good Job and I will Share this so much :)
See you next video!
Joshua Chislett Are you guys planning to make a new short film soon? :)
Thomas Mundal I'm starting pre-production very soon on a sci fi short film I put an indiegogo out just before Finnick! That's my next one!
Joshua Chislett
Cant wait! :)
Joshua Chislett Sounds great!
+Joshua Chislett this was more than perfect but still i wished he coulve had more mercy for the girl.
+Joshua Chislett i mean like she wasnt jush his allie , she was his friend.
he was defending himself so his reflexes were to kill her
To be honest she pretty much gave a 'heads up' to her about to attack him and she attacked first.
When the kid was liking their own comment I didn’t feel bad for them- oh yeah you
Really puts the Capitol's thirst over Finnick into perspective. He was a little boy.
Your editing is amazing! The way you edited the seal in the sky for the fallen tributes was absolutely brilliant and smooth. Good job over all guys!!🤗🤗
"Its toxic rain! lets pointlessly run through it!"
still a good film though.

Looks awesome, he really looks like Finnick may have looked when he was young. amazing CGI as well. But most of all, great and very touching story.
Finnick shouldn't of died in the 4th movie it should of been Gale
I would say I agree but then it would feel like she’s only with peeta because Gale was gone, or she could even feel too guilty to be with peeta
Wow watched this during 2020 quarantine! Great entertainment! It was refreshing to see actors that actually look like kids.
Great acting, great story, great arena, great quality, great soundtrack, great EVERYTHING! :D Great job to all who were involved in this film. :)
wow this is so great! Finnick is my favorite character. When I found out he died, i was all like "Suzanne Collins, you betrayed me!" so sad. I didn't even realize that was Finnick until he got that sponsor he didn't want lmao
This needs to be a full length film in the cinemas one day. Not just the Games itself but the reaping, parade, training and interviews as well. We need to see more of Finnick's past since he got killed off and has no future
This was incredibly well done. I've seen a ton of HG fan films and this one is tied for the best, if not the outright the best.
Create films, love the costumes and the actors are great.

Great job!
Poppy Harnett Thank you! Yes the rope bracelet was a subtle hint that it was given to him from Annie. :)
Joshua Chislett but Finnick didn't really know Annie yet. and he certainly didn't love her at this point. I get that youre trying to show him as sensitive, but he was a career. The Finnick we love evolved over time.
OH man,
i really wish that there was more hunger games parodies

i kept on watching the ending over and over again
this is certainly the best one ive seen yet, and I've seen aLOT

This is astounding!! The special effects were spectacular and the editing and cinematography were ON POINT. BRAVO!!!! *Presses re-play*
How to survive the hunger games: be the camera man
For a fan film, this is insanely well done. I watched it a few years ago and came back after their new book
She was also from district 4
13:44 No, she was from district 6. Am I the only one who saw that?
WOW SOME OF THESE SCENES ARE EVEN BETTER THEN THE MOVIE
I kinda agree I feel like they really didn’t portray his cockiness and everything well enough?
Why is that Finnick man running at me with a trident
(A realization comes)
Odair(oh dear)
This is a seriously well made hunger games, the cast definitely need to see this and Haymitch’s representation as well ❤️🏹
This is one of the best animated fan films I have watched! It is so realistic.
Broooo that was so good!!! As a finnick lover and a fan of the books. I love this
Imagine you being 17 years old and getting absolutely reked by a 14 year old
Incredible! had me shaking at the end! Dude, you DEFINITELY need to do more of these!!! Outstanding. 10/10 hands down.
if i were in the hunger games i would simply pass away.
By far the most brilliant Fan Film I have seen out there. I rather enjoyed your previous Hunger Games film, but this one blew the last out of the park. I really enjoyed it, excited to see more of your work, and hope in the future you consider doing another Hunger Games film.
Maybe I skipped it but did they not play out the scene where Finnick traps the others in a net and stabs them with the triton?
Anyone else think the projection was better than the real movie?
