    Hey Dave, I appreciate your candor here concerning what these phones were intended for by the designers. If a person isn't sitting at a real piano with an opened top, or holding a guitar while playing it, or singing into a microphone, in each scenario while listening to not only their instrument/voice but other instruments and voices... then these phones will not make much sense to them. They definitely were not intended for use at the end of a long day of working at a big box store, or in an office, or factory, or auto repair shop, to simply enjoy one's favorite symphonic recording of Beethoven, or Steely Dan's Aja on virgin vinyl, or anything at 32b/192k. These are workhorse phones, they are tools specifically conceived for the making of, or production of, music not the enjoyment of it. That you would review them as an audiophile compliment kind of blows my mind but, at the same time, I am very impressed that you stated so many times their intended use case scenarios. I, myself, have worked foh many times all over the world and in some of the craziest conditions (crazy, not just related to the sound field but crazy as in close proximity to audiences that were, ummm, unruly to be kind about it, bordering upon civil unrest to be blunt), and what Austrian Audio has done with this set of phones is, to me, just amazing. I need to know if a transient from a ride cymbal is blowing away the pick attack of a guitar, or if a piano is pingy above the 4th octave but thudding in the first two, and I need that information above the thousands of transient sounds coming at me from a room filled with 20,000 drunks. That is a totally different environment than anything going on in my home within the confines of my living room, normally, am I right? LOL Great video. I'm glad to have found someone who understands the use cases and articulates that aspect. Keep up the honesty.

    Hello, thank you for these videos. Between this headphones and the Sennheiser hd66s0 which do you prefer? Which in your opinion takes the crown between these two?

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  Місяць тому

      Two different use cases. I love both and use each often. The Hi-X60 is for monitoring and the HD660s2 is more reference. The HD660s2 is more of an everyday listen and the Hi-X60 is a workhorse.

    I use the the hi-x65 and 55 in the studio. They are very detailed for their price, but have a rawness that isn’t made to be pleasing. Honest, not flattering…it’s what you want in a studio headphone. But I wouldn’t recommend them for a lot of audiophiles for the same reason. They are there to make problems in your mixes stick out like a sore thumb.

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  Рік тому +3

      I agree that they are very revealing. I actually find "rawness" to be pleasant but I prefer a neutral sound.
      I do think the Rode NTH-100 would be more appealing to the masses as it is warmer and more pleasant sounding.
      Thank you for the impressions.

      I’m more into neutral, or mid forward signatures as well. I’m a huge fan and owner of the LCD-5 like you are. I actually like the sound of Yamaha NS10 monitors, which although they translate well because of their aggressive midrange, most people don’t like the way they sound. I like them and the Hi-X55 is very similar to those speakers.

      Austrian Audio HI-X60 for monitoring. Using open back for monitoring can add feedback or reverb or unwanted noise back into the microphones.

    X60 is the most perfect headphone Ive used. Comfort, detail, imaging,soundstage, tonality..

    Finally an Austrian Audio coverage! As the user of the Hi-X65 (the open back version of the Hi-X60 which is said to be tuned to have the same tonality), your statement about the bass is very accurate, it is not deficient nor overwhelming. It is as what the mix or the source intend the bass to be. Unlike some headphones that adds bass or takes bass away from a music, I believe that this Austrian Audio headphone conforms to the music like a chameleon.
    The take about the mids and treble are great too, yes I do agree the mids are a little thin sounding at times and certainly is not the full sounding type. Meanwhile as you said, the treble is sparkly and could be a little bit too much at times. The treble also amplify sibilance, but I don't think it is a lot and it doesn't bother me at all. I heard from some professional mixer that review this headphone that it is good for detecting sibilance in the mix. If it doesn't sound sibilant in the Austrian Audio Hi-X65/60 it wont sound sibilant in most audio source out there.
    As usual thanks for the honest and accurate review about this product. Glad that you enjoyed it quite a lot!

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  Рік тому +3

      Awesomeness!
      Yes indeed, the X60 is very revealing of what the source is presenting. If there is sibiliance or not, you will know with the X60.
      Thank you for the impressions.

    which headphone would you recommend for neutrality,studio work- austrian audio hix60 or the ollo audio s5x?

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  Рік тому +1

      I would recommend a closed back, like the Hi-X60, for mixing and monitoring in a studio. If you are doing mastering the S5x is a good option.

    How does it compare to the Ollo Audio?

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  Рік тому +6

      I am assuming you are asking about the Ollo S5x.
      The S5x has slightly more body and note weight, the mids are slightly more elevated and noticeable. Bass has a little more impact on the X60. The treble is a little more emphasized on the X60. Detail retrieval and resolution are similar in capabilities. The S5x has a slightly warmer tint to the tone and timbre.

    Not a fan. I was expecting to make a big upgrade from a DT770Pro
    I'm afraid it's my 1st mystake choicing a headphone. Quality build is great... but It sound boxy like a cheap headphone
    and make impossible to use it.
    SoI will not pick up the open back HI-x65 for master. I will keep my reference the K702.

    Everything else is true but the "built like a tank" speech is true bullcr*p.
    Don't get me wrong but the little bit of plastic pretty much undoes the reliability.
    I got mine with 34 month warranty b-stock and 180€ for hi-x65 so quite a bargain.
    The plastics in a normally over 300€ product would turn me off personally.
