Actually, it was because EA didn't want to give Visceral Games some 360/PS3 devkits, because they weren't conviced of the concept. They had to develop a prototype on Xbox 1 devkits to convince EA.
To be fair, in 2004, when this was originally being conceived, PS3 devkits weren't really a thing, and Xbox 360 kits were rare. Part of the reason COD 2 exists instead of jumping straight to Modern Warfare was because it gave Infinity Ward an edge of getting a firm grasp on upcoming hardware.
Actually it was middle of 2005. Schofield played Resident Evil 4 and got inspired. EA wasn't convinced, so they did 3 rooms with three different mechanics. One loot room, one Zero G room and one Battle room. EA liked the concept so they gave Visceral Games Xbox 360 and later PlayStation 3 kits to develop the game.
So, Dead Space is a game that was released in 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The developers started sometime in 2005 creating this game, it would have been cool to see how this game would have looked on PS2 and Xbox.
@SonicXmario50 It was a time issue. It's a LOT easier to make a rail shooter than a full featured 3rd person adventure/shooter/whatever. Making Extraction a rail shooter was the only way to meet the deadline, they wanted it on retail shelves while the DS1 iron was still relatively hot.
This has to be floating around somewhere doubt it cause it was built for the xbox but it was made on a PC. But in the deep web there are groups of gamers who collect old builds of games that would really surprise you... They trade other game betas/alphas or you have to pay a lot of money for them. Wish I could find a group.
@@jamesedleymusic technically is possible to run dev prototypes on home hardware, you need to install custom bios to allow that and mod your xbox adding more ram (but that's really complex)
Imagine this same game running on Wii's engine with infrared aiming. Instead, we get yearly rail-shooter with a twist, horror theme. EA, I am disappoint.
They should be making this for the Wii not some lame rail shooter. Wii can certainly do bump mapping and normal mapping (Gladiator AD), bloom (Zelda: Twilight Princess), self shadowing (Overlord Dark Legend, Stat Wars Rebel Strike) which were central to Dead Spaces visuals to generate a atmosphere. Also imagine how dismemberment would benefit from the remotes pointer precision.
@matey27 Um, no. The Wii can't not do anything close to the Xbox 360. I had SC:DA for the 360, Wii, and Xbox. The Wii lost by a mile. This is the real line in graphics 1)Xbox 360 2)PS3 3)Xbox 4)Wii/GC 5)PS2

The necromophs looking more like predators from alien vs predator and I hope this game will came for original xbox live, but yeah need to whait it almost looks better than for 360 or ps3. :)
Is far better in XBOX360 than in XBOX alone. In 360 has same shader power than a PC and that means the right cool graphics we are used to since the Pixel Shader 3.0 revolution.
Shooters (1st and 3rd person) are almost always awful using motion controls, you need dual sticks or KB&M. Seriously, think about it, name a shooter on the Wii which wouldn't have been better with the classic pad. Ditto for PS3 aswell, Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 are both better with the Dual Shock over Move.
people who talk graphics really just don't know shit about them at all. if it wasn't for PC hardware, the PS3 and 360 wouldn't even have the capacity and room for them. do graphics have to really be all about looking the best? what about graphics actually being some sort of art creation. what about cel shaded like in Zelda: Wind Waker. what about hand-drawn like in Street Fighter IV. limitation to hardware doesn't mean anything. the Wii is about game play, not graphics. and gameplay > graphics.
its really a shame how dumb EA was . if this game was released earlier on the original xbox then we would have today the 3rd or 4th game of this series . i heard that the story was completly different than the 360 / Ps3 version . this version is already better than our todays version of dead space . =/
Is this game real? Searsly why they don't create dead space for PS2? Is PS2 console that bad? But yeah I have PS2, but I will sell it! Beacose I will buy PS3 or whait for xmas to come! I will think about my online gt so yeah! And I love DEAD SPACE! It's the best game ever! :)
It’s crazy that something this advanced for the time was built on the foundations of the original Xbox.

Probably kind of like the original Xbox/Ps2 game Run Like Hell? But with better 3rd person hopefully
@@SirBigWater I guess it would have looked like Resident Evil 4 a bit since Glen Schofield got inspired by Resident Evil 4.
@ConseQuence but with a higher quality level of everything. The Mobile game is technically on a level between the PS1 and the PS2.
The game wouldnt be able to even run on a PS2. The console is too weak. Hence why it got developed on the OG Xbox first.
@@radiance9657 The PS2 can run NFS Pro Street that has better graphics than this crap.

It does, but you’d need an Xbox dev kit to actually run the thing. Even it surfaced, no one would be able to play it.
