How to Make Salt or Sugar Water Density Rainbow Tower | Simple Kids Science

- This saltwater density tower experiment will help you and your children understand density better. Density is the mass of a material per unit volume, and it is a fixed number for each material. The density of water is 997 kg/m³; however, we can increase it by adding salt and sugar to it. In this experiment, we were adding a different amount of salt to each glass of water. When the salt dissolves, it increases the mass of water without changing the volume very much, which means that the saltwater solution's density becomes higher than freshwater. That is why we could make this beautiful salt density tower.
Just a word of caution, when you are pouring colourful salty water into a big jar, you need to be very careful. Otherwise, you will end up with a jar full of salty brown water. Make sure you use small pieces of paper and funnel with a paper straw, as we show in the video.

The idea of using small pieces of paper when pouring different layers is brilliant! You came thro when I had almost given up, thanks!
Me and my science partner tried this experiment two times, and the first time we did it, it unfortunately didn't work, as we did not do some things correctly and so the rainbow colors didn't work and the tiny papers sunk to the bottom. We tried this for the second time and we observed our mistakes that we made and it rainbow colors successfully worked but the paper sunk to the bottom we are unsure why it happened but we are still happy!! :)
Cool 👍
How long it will sustain this separation?
🙂💛
what is the reason of putting tiny pieces of paper?
Hi quick question if we don’t have a funnel to pour the liquid can we just pour it from the glass ? Thanks
I think you need to tilt the glass and pour more coloured water into it.
You can roll a paper making it as a funnel too.
You can slowly pour over the bumpy side if a spoon that touches the side of the glass. See methods on UA-cam about rainbow cocktails for example
The point is that you need to pour the water slowly. So the best way is with a funnel. Maybe you can create one with aluminum paper.

Didn't work out🙁 The pieces of paper sank straight away. What paper did you use?
we used regular printer paper. You can also try pieces of Styrofoam

Didn't work :'( so sorry...
this is definitely a tricky one to do
