Gandhi had done fast until death for giving pakistan its share of partitioned money, which india had stopped as it gave it higher hand to resolve kashmir. In the end india had to give the money no questions asked. Problem started when the next step gandhi was determined to give kashmir to pakistan. Read his thoughts on kashmir and godse statement in court which was banned by congress for decades.
