Not only that, but also they're going to replace "It's Tough to Be a Bug!" with a Zootopia 3D show
Yes, I did see that they announced Zootopia to replace It's Tough To Be A Bug. In my opinion this is much better than an entire land based on Zootopia, so if they are going to add it, they're adding it in a very low-key way.
From what I’ve heard, zootopia in DAK is a blue sky concept, meaning it’s simply an idea rather than something set in stone. It makes me wonder if the announcement is simply a way to gauge what fans want, and act accordingly. They also pitched the idea as revamping the area into a South American theme with IP’s like Encanto and Indiana Jones or Oceana with Moana, which imo makes more sense (even though Encanto is a bit of a stretch, Indiana Jones could work but still seems off). That all being said, I agree 100% with what you’re saying about sticking to the theme, especially as a guy who’s going into the field of wildlife conservation and care. Zootopia simply doesn’t work in my mind for the same reasons pitched by Joe.
Today's announcements were very interesting. It seems like they took the "beyond big thunder" idea and just relocated it to DAK.
But its all still just "being considered" so yeah, nothing is set in stone. Encanto and Indiana Jones are definitely a stretch for DAK. Especially because imo the Encanto area looks like it might be just a meet and greet and Indy could very likely be a clone of Disneyland version.
