The Super Mario Bros. Movie has officially released, and the Starman theme feels like the right song choice for the occasion! ⭐️
I'm almost certain the Star Power music is the most widely used jingle in every Mario game. It's the perfect ending as we wind down on the Mario Bros. hype!
I'm at a loss for how AWESOME this remix turned out!! It's a perfect blend of chiptune & modern electronic synths; I'm pretty sure I was sweating at times in the studio from all the solo headbangin' dance parties I had while making this! 🔥🔊

Dude this remix is fire! I actually saw the Mario movie with my boyfriend on opening day and I’m going back this weekend with my family! Highly recommend it it’s a reaaaallly good movie

HOLY HECK, PLAYER 2, you weren't kidding when you mentioned that this was among your best productions yet - this is so, _so_ good! I love the music and visual representation here, and I truly could not stop smiling the entire time while listening and watching. There's so much ear and eye candy, and it really does feel like the perfect culmination of all the hype leading up to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, and just the ongoing celebration this past month. You pulled out all the stops, then you went and found some more, and pulled those out, too! 😅
First, I have to mention the music - everything sounds so clean, vibrant, fresh, and exciting, and the instrument choices are phenomenal for encompassing what Star Power sounds like! 🌟 The variety of textured synths used for leads and supporting parts makes it have very much an electric feel, both in terms of energy and sound style. I love the gentle buzz that some of the synths have, which complements the lighter pluckier ones nicely. The contrasting synth styles provide a great blend of richness and pop, and the abundance of chiptune-styled flourishes are just too good. For instance, in the segment beginning at 0:37, there's so much going on in the peripherals (with superb stereo spacing, I might add), and it enriches the main loop, adding a great deal of interest. Even after nearly a half-dozen listens, it feels like there are still new details and subtleties to be found throughout, and that's the best kind of music. And I want to add that the arrangement itself is phenomenal - for a literal 2-measure loop (at least, for the basic version before Yoshi's Island went and added the melody we all know and love), you've maximized the variety and squeezed every last bit of variance possible with alternate chord structures, supporting parts, varied rhythms and instrument sets, and a host of other techniques. The party just doesn't stop! 🎉
The bass instruments warrant particular mention here. I adore the sound of that digibass that comes in at 0:09, and it has such a great ringing texture alongside a satisfying slap-style attack. There's an interesting complexity in the rhythm, too, like a double attack on the upbeat of beat 1 in that segment, and maybe it's a percussive sound that I'm actually hearing, but either way, I like it! And man, those octave jumps at certain parts, like at 0:57 and 1:12 (and again at 2:18 and beyond) give the bass such a funky feel. The bass elements are perfectly balanced in the mix, as well, providing awesome depth without being too much or too little. And it's especially effective when the bass parts are held back during the more toned-down segments (e.g., 1:23), because when they come back in, it's a reminder of that "woah" factor!
Man, the percussive elements and use of SFX are off-the-walls here. I love the auxiliary percussive sounds, like those brief "shh-" sounds leading into snares, claps, or new segments, and the way you utilize non-drum percussion in tandem with electronic drums is a real exemplar. It's also cool to hear both new percussive sounds and familiar ones in each of your remixes! And wow, you did _not_ hold back with the SFX here, and they're superbly selected and implemented in this arrangement. In particular, that "power-up" sound at the start is a creative way to get the party started. I think that the Mario series has always done such a good job of making players feel empowered with the Starman, and the moment you touch it, you know you're about to have several seconds of blissful chaos as you just wreck house or blaze through a tricky section! And you madman, you went full-circle by ending things off with that Bullet Bill sound, as if to say, "okay, party's over." ...yeah, as if! That's why the repeat button exists - to perpetuate masterpieces like this one!
And jeez, in terms of video production, this is very easily one of your best yet! I love how it starts off with the OG Mario grabbing the very first Starman ever (that in itself is such a creative detail), and how it shows the evolution of the iconic power-up and its incorporation across the series. Big props for including footage from Super Paper Mario, which had a very innovative take on Star Power! The games you chose to represent this evolution are well-chosen, and I like how each new game is introduced in a way that syncs with transitions in the music. Seeing the Galaxy gameplay warms my heart, and seeing the insane number of Starmen bouncing around in the Mario Maker levels blew my mind! It's pretty wild, what people come up with, and I bet that level was just a blast to play! 😁
I am absolutely LOVING that rainbow energy shockwave effect that you debuted at 0:38. It looks so dang cool, and it feels retro, yet modern at the same time - fittingly in parallel to how the music sounds! The screen transitions are, as always, satisfying and smooth, and I like how you're introducing new ones with each new remix video. But most of all, the 3-Star countdown that you used at 0:36 was just pure genius. The roulette reels line up perfectly with the cowbell hits, and Mario's "WAH-HAAA!" accompanies the screen flash, leading right into a massive drop! And you insane person, you took a different approach at 2:10, with the SMB3 minigame, lining up the pattern for a 5-up, accompanied by a perfectly timed "YAHOO!". I can't even put into words how much I love the creative energy and effort that goes into details like that, and I'm sure getting the footage to line up just right with the music was a big challenge in itself, but well worth it!
I know I've typed like an entire dissertation here, but I really can't contain my enthusiasm for this piece, and I want to properly convey just how much I enjoyed it. Life has been very busy lately, but I'm hoping to have some time in the near-future to comment on your earlier remixes that I've not yet had an opportunity to. In any case, thank you for this absolutely STELLAR track, my friend, and I hope - no, I _know_ - that this is going to be a huge hit on all platforms! 🌟

Even I'm amazed from the sheer amount of work that went into this creation...from 2-measure loop!!! I made sure this not only provided those nostalgic chills, but also the chills of hype when you listen to this song in a variety of settings, whether on a road trip, exercising, or simply at an at-home dance party! Rest assured, a party with P2 music is _sure_ to keep the party going! 🕺
As usual, the SFX are never safe from the P2 treatment; and it took quite a number of listens before finalizing those SFX placements. Having to warp most of them to fit the grid, and also didn't want to put too much in the mix considering I already implemented a number of chiptune synths in addition to the electro synths, finding that balance was not the easiest task!!
I'm actually sad I couldn't find the time to record _more_ starman instances in various Mario games, which is what ultimately led me to creating that hilarious Mario Maker stage with 100 superstars inbetween music notes 😆 it worked in my favor 'cause I could swap the style of game, which was a solid showcase of what I wanted the video to represent anyway! And oh yeah, the (what felt like infinite) amount of rewinds on the NES Switch Online app to _FINALLY_ achieve those roulettes was tiresome!!! 😅
