The Big Rig Tracks very well for its width! It is a decent paddle for how huge it is. I have not paddled it in stiff winds yet nor tidal waters but with the right size paddle length (250 CM) its surprisingly decent! Turns real well too. Id recommend getting the rudder kit for windy days to keep your straight though.
epic bro..just got a 46 thrust saltwater islandhopper setup for my jackson bigrig prolly no where near 5.6mph but mybe close?? anyway cool vid thumbs up.
250 paddle is a must for high seat position ...well depending on tall you are. Now as far as a rudder goes , thats my only regret is that I didnt order it with one. is a must for open water on a windy day. Boat tracks great but on a windy day sitting in the high position prepare for a workout .
Matt Trux FYI the 2015 Big Rig models come rudder ready. Jackson Kayak has taken out the guess work of installing a rudder. It should take most 15 minutes to install.
In just about every State you will have to register any powered craft. In Florida we have been fighting the State on registering unpowered craft. These types of power systems are the reason they are trying to get ALL kayaks and canoes registered, they specifically brought it up at the last hearing, the advent of cheap electric motors and portable sail systems are the reason they want registration, taxes and now they even want to add a EPIRB and lighting requirement to the bill. The proposed bill will only exclude inflatable craft that are less than 5ft. So yes they want you to register the tow behind banana tubes. The changes will also get rid of the nonpowered craft areas in the parks. I saw marine patrol writing a ticket the other day to a guy with a trolling motor on a kayak who was in one of the areas designated as a nonpowered craft area. They do it here because of Manatees and Seagrasses not to mention the fact that kids go kayaking and canoeing there to build confidence and to have a good time. I have also asked in the past about it at the place I like to go that has a unpowered float out area (kinda like a boat ramp for kayaks) they said if I add a motor I will not be allowed there nor on the kayaking trails. So before you add one of the motors know the limitations and the laws in your area, it may just bump you into the same class as a jetski or a skiff.
That's it? You can promote this over priced gear all you want. But my Newport Vessels 62 lb thrust will run 8 hours on a single charge and put 40 miles of BTB fishing in if you want. Batteries are $200 and I bet that thing will not hold up in salt over the years...it just looks cheap.
that looked awesome bro... but just looked that motor up... WOW $1700 for that thing... I tell ya awesome but too rich for me... LOL nice vid bro. envious.
Yeah dude $1,700 is comparable to a 1hp gas motor though. Plus this electric outboard motor is brushless so it will last a much longer time than a trolling motor and has much much more speed. The complete system is 16lbs so its totally worth the cost.. Thanks for the nice comments!!
lol I think you missed his point like me he can't afford 1700 so you can talk all the pro's you like it's not going to change that fact that a good 35-65#thrust trolling motor will do @1/4 - 1/3 the price and can afford a lot easier just a lil fyi
Thanks for your input. I hear you that you cant afford the Torqeedo system but when your loading/unloading a 60lb battery every time with a bad back the chiropractor bills will total than $1700. Heres your day. Load battery into vehicle, load battery from vehicle into kayak that is by waters edge. Use motor. Take kayak battery back to car. Take battery into garage recharge and the cycle continues. Why wouldn't you rather rather have a complete motor system that informs you of range left, current speed, and the level of battery % left that comes in at a total of 16 lbs. Battery is 5 lbs. Just remember trolling motor your battery may last 2 to 3 seasons. A good AGM battery costs between $250 - $300. Its all going to add up. The Torqeedo motor is brush less it will last much longer. Lithium ion battery's will last 10 years if cared for correctly. Over time you will spend more money than you think. Personally I like to buy things that work and will last a long time. You get what you pay for.
lol still don't make the money show up plus batts only 20lbs then I'm wondering who is loading the kayak like I said first time u made good points but ppl don't have that kind of money to buy something cost more then the yak its self lol and whos loading all the rest of your gear as I am poor I am saving for a new hobie if I'm lucky next summer lol
Jackson Big Rig and a Torqeedo 403, what a combo! Im thinking about putting a 403 on my Cuda 12, I'll have to install rudder cables.
You'll fly with a 403 on a Cuda 12!!! Good luck with it!!
Looks like any other trolling motor, what makes this one so special?
It is an electric outboard complete system. Weighs only 16lbs with battery and throttle controller. Way more thrust with its compact design.
Great Rig!, I am thinking of a Torqeedo 403 for trolling. Is the motor noisy enough to scare the fish, at trolling speeds "slow"? Thanks
Awesome set up, but whats the final weight?
Ryan1234 Overall weight of the motor system which includes the motor, controller, and battery is just under 16 lbs
The Plastic Hull Thanks, wanna throw a similar set up on an ocean kayak.
Excellent! The Torqeedo is the way to go!!
Sick set up. How does the big rig paddle?
The Big Rig Tracks very well for its width! It is a decent paddle for how huge it is. Getting this kayak but hadn't thought about getting a motor. That's amazing! What is this song??
Its awesome!! the music is Krackatoa - Crawling Down Walls Instrumental

You can always add a rudder yourself. Its not the easiest install but once complete its worth it!
Matt Trux FYI the 2015 Big Rig models come rudder ready. Jackson Kayak has taken out the guess work of installing a rudder. It should take most 15 minutes to install.
+nz rockdj True but you only buy it once!
did u b have to get the kayak register?
Yes in New Jersey. Check your local and state laws.

matthew hoffman yes sir
what is that exact torqeedo modle?
Torqeedo Ultralight 403
its made for the elite few that come to overcome the elements and smash big fish troll on bro :)
+Mazeingpower boohyaa
I think if you want a motor on a kayak. Just go get a boat.
Have you been able to use it in Salt Water? If so, how did it go?
Works great in the salt!!
what kind of distance do you get at half speed? any info would be great. I want to get same setup.
It all depends on the day weather wind tide current but you should get 5 miles min.

Your $200 batteries are probably 12V wet cells or AGM, total 150-200 lbs together with motor.
that looked awesome bro... but just looked that motor up... WOW $1700 for that thing... I tell ya awesome but too rich for me... LOL nice vid bro. envious.
