This game gives me some serious nostalgia. It was one of the first pc games i ever played and im pretty sure it was the first 3D shooter i played. I never had the full version back then though. Now i can play this on my phone!
Hey Gem! Glad to see you back and thx for the bulk uploads... esp as I can't seem to access ANY of the eps on your site anymore. Listen mate, when you have time, maybe consider making a vid (or few hehe) of some gameplay of what you are playing these days... for sure it would be great to see a nice long video update of your recent work in Minecraft maybe? Ok thx, take care and look forward to hearing from you!
RJ Nash This is what I've been doing with the private livestreams for Patreon supporters. I've also done some filler videos with such games in them. :BThe archived livestreams will go up on UA-cam once I get all the other videos caught up.
I really like these games. Heck, believe it or not, I've replayed them more than 6 times each, even though I didn't even beat Wolfenstein 3D even once! For some reason, Wolf 3D bores me a lot faster than the Catacomb games.
+Marcelo Sampaio This actually doesn't surprise me. The Catacomb games have a more varied set of enemies, maps, and special abilities, whereas Wolf3D is a lot more straight-forward with a lot less variety.
There are enhanced DOSBox builds that emulate the overscan border. The best option to play the game is probably the Reflection Keen source port, which provides a very authentic experience, without the flickering and other annoyances.
Probably a bit late, but I originally played the Froggman rereleases called Curse of the Catacombs (IIRC this was actually Abyss) and Terror of the Catacombs (Armageddon, though I'm running off faulty memory). For a time, these and Wolfenstein 3D were the only shooters I had.
Played this whole series during my college years. It's a good time-waster, though not nearly as engaging as Wolf 3D or Blake Stone. I did enjoy the creativity they put into it - making up various new themes for the levels in every part of the trilogy (even if the engine makes them look so similar).
@RuleofVicus Alien Rampage was the name of the game that was going to be Duke Nukem Forever. Alien Carnage is a different game (was also named Halloween Harry at one point), released by Apogee.

It took me ages to realise that the maze didn't have a roof, its the open sky

The radar is kind of like an incomplete Infinity Gauntlet, isn't it? It only lacks the orange (soul) stone ;)

Curse of the Catacombs is Armadeggon and Terror of the Catacombs is Apocalypse.
There's no Frogman release of Abyss, as far as I know.
Tried replaying this a while ago, but the narrow FoV is atrocious
I love the overall look of that game.... i should give it a go. On my 486!
I think there was actually some pretty grate sprite work done in these games.
Was it "Star Quest I in the 27th Century"?

I liked playing Abyss and a few years ago I played it again but when I was a kid I liked it more.
Can you review Nitemare 3D ?
***** I already have; it's Episode 146. Won't be up on UA-cam for a couple weeks yet but can be watched on my website for the time being. :B
"An ancient wizard by the name of Nemesis." Yea, he has a female name. No wonder he goes crazy.
I just got Catacombs Pack yes day on sell really cheap
I think they reused the music from this game in other games. Its really familiar but ive never played catacombs.
Definitely in Commander Keen.
I have a request .Could you review Alien Carnage ? a 2d sidescroller that at one point it was going to be duke nukem forever, but was changed.
You mean Alien Rampage***
@RuleofVicus Alien Rampage was the name of the game that was going to be Duke Nukem Forever.
Alien Carnage is a different game (was also named Halloween Harry at one point), released by Apogee.
You forgot the first Catacomb game (the 2D one)
Actually, I'd already covered it on the show six months prior to this episode! ua-cam.com/video/w9m-G4eMPzE/v-deo.html
Robo wizards? That's just silly! ;)
Tell that to Babylon 5. ;D
It was an OK game.
These aren't all the catacomb games
All the 3D ones. I already covered the original Catacomb in an earlier video! ua-cam.com/video/w9m-G4eMPzE/v-deo.html
@@Pixelmusement I figured but you didn't clarify in this video. You just said it was the entire series and that catacomb 3D was the first.
@@LordGrim1313 "...we're gonna take a look at all of the Catacomb games to follow the original..." You were just listening too fast. ;)
