How ironic that Jonathan Ross says the character Meryl plays in Devil Wears Prada reminds him of Margaret Thatcher, and then Meryl goes on to play Thatcher in the Iron Lady and wins an Oscar for it. 👏

Meryl Streep has so many amazing performances. But the one with Jack Nicholson in "Ironweed" stands out prominently in my mind. She was incredible in that film.
when she belts out a country song at the end of 'postcards from the edge' I just love it. BTW, she told' TIME' in '79 that Hoffman groped her breast the first time she met him. it's on DH's wikipedia.

My mom had a scene in Ironweed with Meryl. She's just in the background in a church pew. Originally she was supposed to shush Streep for praying too loudly but the director changed his mind at the last moment. Still she was signed to a speaking part which meant joining the Screen Actors Guild and she is listed in the movies credits- even has a IMDB page. She was 69 years old when the film was made and the remaining 15 years of her life she continued getting tiny little royalty checks when the film was shown on TV in some country somewhere. Being paid to sit in church was a dream job for her.
She's adorable full stop. I could listen to her all night. Smart witty and charismatic...what a combo

What I notice watching this is that the British audience is much less (audibly) responsive than the American audience. Americans fall over everything she says, and these folks are much more reserved/quiet.

Actually it's because the audiences in England are not prompted to "applause", "laugh", etc, like American audiences are, also American shows (where appropriate) add a laugh track to "EVERYTHING".

Hoffman is a notorious method actor. His mistake is thinking that other actors also need some kind of outside motivation to give a good performance. Would he have slapped Olivier before a scene in Marathon Man, or DeNiro in Wag the Dog? Also, it's possible that Meryl is holding back here, as it's always been reported that Hoffman was verbally abusive to Meryl throughout the filming of Kramer Vs. Kramer.... all in his desire to get a good performance out of her. No excuse for that and a bit ironic considering what she became and probably already was
Maybe she would have never became the actress she is without her Dustin Hoffman experiences?
