I visited Bergen, and Grieg's home. One of the tours there, the guide told us of another guide who got an unexpected laugh from her audience. She was a German lady who spoke English well, but didn't always know some of the idioms.
When recounting how Grieg would trick teachers to get out of school, she told the group that, "he would wet himself" ....

Spending half a decade with such gruelling illness is insane, even today. And we got the meds now, just mad that he managed from 17 to 67.

I get great joy from playing his piano music. It never ages or becomes boring. Really good presentation here. Well done. Did you know that Glenn Gould was Grieg's distant relative? Gould recorded some Grieg, not enough and with great effect.

Excellent commentaries, "Classical Nerd"! I remember being very unpopular in public school long ago because of my love of this same musical Genre. Truly appreciated your upload about Scott Joplin, nearly forgotten American Legend. I grew up appreciating him, along with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Howard Swanson, Chevalier De Saint George, William Grant Still- and so on. As I'm sure you know, many of those in the Artistic world long ago would contract and eventually succumb to Treponema Pallidum, Joplin just being one of far too many . One of my absolute favorite composers is FREDERICK DELIUS, who- despite being Wasserman test super positive- composed some of his greatest works right up until his death in 1934. He endured paralysis and later blindness, but the spirochetes never destroyed his brain; he never became demented. I'm looking forward to any upcoming good effort you have in mind about Delius. I know you would do a exceptional job. Thanks!

I am actually quite fond of Gade's 8 symphonies. I enjoyed this clip about Grieg immensely. Wonderfully done. Thank you Thomas !

I've not heard too much of Gade, I must admit, but what I've heard, I've liked. It seems that Carl Nielsen has overshadowed most other Danish composers from history.

If you like Mendelssohn, Gade is very easy to like as well. They had a friendly professional relationship and championed each others music. I like the rustic, outdoorsy aspect of Gade's symphonies. One can also sense the nordic elements in his music that would become central in the works of Nielsen and Sibelius. Just a tinge, but it's there.

I know that you must be swamped and that I already have one other request in the pool, but I'd like to request a video on Max Bruch. Great video by the way. Thanks!
