Welcome back, friends! This is my most complex video essay yet. It's a long because the topic of race at the heart of this story is serious and this is the first time I've addressed it here. I look forward to discussing these ideas in the comments. Let's model what civil debate looks like together!!!
In the meantime, here's some important other videos that I reference.

Since racism makes people feel uncomfortable, the empathic fallacy helps the dominant culture to mistakenly believe that it no longer exists, and that dominant images, portrayals, stock characters, and stereotypes-which usually portray minorities in a negative light-provide them with a true image of race in America.[citation needed] Based on these narratives, the dominant group has no need to feel guilty or to make an effort to overcome racism, as it feels "right, customary, and inoffensive to those engaged in it", while self-described liberals who uphold freedom of expression can feel virtuous while maintaining their own superior position.[66]

My parents always told me to treat people how you would want them to treat you. This is what I teach my kids. I've personally experienced some jaw dropping acts of racism in my life, but I always remember the love, the humanity, true friendship, that the most wonderful people have shown to me. The memory of these most kind people that were not of my own race, keeps my love alive. The memory of their nobility, to care for me as who I was, this Asian American boy, now a man, humbles me and brings a smile to me. Those were the exemplars of what American people are, and what this nation stands for. Hating others comes from self hate. Don't give in to it. It is evil.

Let me tell a story that actually happened to my family. My wife saw two young boys deliberately crashing their ATV bike toy into our only vehicle at that time. She noticed that it could really scratch and ding our car up pretty bad, so she went outside of our apartment unit and politely asked the kids to please stop doing that. One of the kids runs home and tells their mom that my wife was screaming at them. My wife is an award winning former college teacher with a masters degree in pedagogy. She was awarded the teacher of the year in the Ukraine. She knows how to conduct herself in front of children and teenagers as well. We have five children; two from my previous marriage. Anyway, the kid's mom brings her entire extended family to our apartment door and starts banging on it. My wife opens the door and finds the boy's mother screaming at the top of her lungs of how she will do physical harm to my wife if she yells at her innocent little boy again. Her boy wasn't a innocent kid, believe me please. He, the other boy , and his brother would slap and beat my 7 year old son almost on a daily basis just because he was different from them. My boy is a straight A student in school. Anyhow, there was a veritable small mob in front of our door! My wife said she was so frightened by that women's behavior and the mob, that all she was a stunned, sheepish, " okay" , and closed the door. Lol. I can laugh now with my wife, but at that time, it wasn't funny! How do you reciprocate to that kind of behavior from grown adults? Before we moved to that low income neighborhood, I'd been raised in a very wealthy neighborhood where that kind of behavior from kids or adults was unheard of. So, I was completely blind sided by this incident that my wife told me about. I wasn't home at the time. Then that boy's family gives me the most angry evil stares as if we were at fault! Omg. What do you say to that? How do you respond to such behavior? Well, the boy that actually was slapping my 7 year old son around, his mother, asks me to give her two feral kids rides to the same elementary school my kid attends. So I did. Then she wanted me to sign a hand written contract, that I would be her kids taxi to school everyday! Lol ! I mean, you can't make this stuff up! I understood these kids were from a underprivileged and very abusive family. Their father was never home, and when he rarely came by, it was to give their mother beatings. You could hear it in the parking lot. I just felt completely helpless, and utter sympathy for those kids. They never thanked me once for any acts of kindness I did for them, but that was fine. My family took the scrapes and dings, not only to our car. Be the ocean, my mother always said. My father and mother lived by example. I never want to dishonor the memory of my parents or their name. We've since found the place where we needed to be. Again, from my heart, I'm grateful for that.

@@christyl7909 you are correct. I don’t know her race. Quite frankly there are Black people that are missing the point too. Who cares what color you are. This is about not knowing that’s what I was responding to.
Also, this is not about being poor. This is about oppression and radical systemic racism. This is why it’s important to have first hand experience. You really have no idea what slavery or Jim Crow is do you?
Now, regarding your experience, while painful I’m sure. And no, I’m not belittling your experience. The movie isn’t about Mexico.
Mexicans were not the main focus of chattel slavery. This is a radically different concept. People didn’t chop body parts off of your men and hang them in store windows. Or have cookouts with the children while bodies hung from trees. Or rape your women wholesale and then come up with ideas on how to keep people down.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Slavery wasn’t migration for Gods sake.
So now I’ve given you facts. Facts that are still very much alive. Note: I’m not excited about handouts or even the leftist agenda.
Nor am I here to pass judgement.
I’m here to ask people to walk in other peoples shoes. So there is more understanding. Not separation.
I’m here to enlighten. If I’m wrong I will admit it. Will you?
Lastly, I’m betting you assume that I’m Black.

@@christyl7909 That is correct. I don't know her race. And you don't know mine. But this doesn't really matter. There are even some people of color that are not sensitive to these issues.
Additionally this is not about being poor.
Its about the after effects of chattel slavery.
which is radically different from migrating to America. There is no equivalence between Mexican immigration and American chattel slavery - none. Please read history.
Look up the Willie Lynch letter and you may begin to have a different feeling about what I'm speaking of. I am not judging her, I am just reading her comment. And suggesting that she tries to understand the point the movie and the Obamas are making. I'm certain the Obamas are trying to enlighten for a better future. Where we all understand each other better.

If you are a born again, bible believing Christian, in union to Christ; convicted of sin by God's Holy Spirit (repentance, regeneration), going from a state of spiritual death, unto eternal Life with the Lord Jesus, to then you are to:
      ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:11‬

[13] Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [14] Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, [15] and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; [16] above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; [18] praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints- [19] and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, [20] for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

I don’t think the movie was saying that racism is dooming the US to collapse.
I think it’s main message was saying that the dysfunctions in American society mixed with the US leadership continually making enemies can be exploited in a terrifying way. An we collectively need to take personal accountability for our role in turning the dysfunction around.
Racism, colorism, supremacy, etc are still a problem but so is tech dependency; so is delayed or no response to clear warnings; and so is misinformation.

supremacy has been reduced to less than 2,000 people in the US. It is so low that the FBI faked it in Charlottesville. All 20 of the "Tiki Boys" were FBI officers.

    1. The characters show up in the middle of the night and spend several odd minutes hemming and hawing before clearly revealing who they are and why they are there.
    2. Neither father nor daughter has identification on them? Really? No registration papers in car? The excuse is given that he left his overcoat at the symphony. He's wearing a tux. It's go to the beach weather. Why the hell would he have had an overcoat?

The radio station showing 1619 why is that year so important? Spanish were taking Africans 100 years earlier to the new world. Comanche's and other tribes taking Natives, whites, Spanish as slaves in the 1500's, Muslims were taking whites, 2,000 years ago Romans taking Europeans, Egyptian's taking Israelites. Even today more slaves than ever, Slavery didn't start in 1619 and didn't end in 1865.

Correct. Slavery in North America was horrible, but it's simply false to say that it was unique or essential or a driving force of the revolutionary war. The 1619 project is a profoundly dishonest and divisive meta narrative.

We may come together from time to time but generally, we do value independence and self-reliance of the individual over the state or a social group. We frown on interference by the government into our lives. In fact more people believe we're on the brink of civil war now more than 20yrs ago. 11:29

Anybody who thinks systemic racism is a conspiracy theory has either not heard or ignored a lot of news stories or stats about how non-white minorities are disproportionately treated worse for doing the same things whites do. Just because racism isn't written into law doesn't mean racism isn't systematic (doctors taking black's complaints of pain less seriously than whites is an example). It can happen at an individual level and a systemic one, and there's more than enough evidence that both have been constants in our history. It's gotten less bad over the decades but it's still a major issue.

That's ridiculous and everyone knows it. It's utter BS. People have such good intentions that they will believe and do all kinds of crazy things, including listening to this horrible movie IN ORDER TO BE BETTER PEOPLE. It's so freaking backwards. Thanks for the very fair comment! In a sense, I have to agree with you. My sources laid out here are the people I've come to trust on matters of race. I trust them partly because they are seriously data-driven people, partly be they're broader philosophy isn't radically utopian/communist, and partly because they don't collapse into ad hominem attacks in making their arguments.
I'm not saying that there are no disparities or inequalities present. There will always be, and not just along race. More attractive people have an advantage over less. Taller over shorter. Smarter over dumber. Members of an in-group versus outsides. The issue is whether race and gender in 2024 are so overpowering in reality that they should be your #1 concern and should lead you to want the country completely revolutionized around them.
I don't reject the importance of identity for us as people, though. I have a broader video about identity that I think you'll like. ua-cam.com/video/1g8pzcvR8aY/v-deo.htmlsi=E08M8lzF-msMslOa

The trailer you made highlights 100% where Obama politically lives. Obama; who created, fueled, nurtured, and championed the racial riots in the real world across the country;. Poor areas of Democrat Cities being destroyed by fire across the country. Time goes on and much of the generally non political, uninformed populous started to understand how, and who fanned the flames and fed the race riots and societal unrest. So, they made as if nothing ever happened. The societal racial damage was successful and supported by the media; the Leftist media would never talk about these riots ever again, like they never happened. This was and is all Obama.

Respectfully, and not that this film is perfect, but if this film is a cautionary tale then it should be obvious that this film isn't about race. Its message is about us finally putting our differences aside before it's too late. In the movie it's perhaps too late, at least to prevent some catastrophe, but again the operative wording here is that it's a cautionary tale. While it doesn't ignore racism and other certain differences between Americans, it also isn't placing the blame squarely on that, but instead on the fact that whatever our differences are, we failed to avoid conflict. It shows what collapse might happen if we continue to absolve ourselves from the responsibility of understanding and being in solidarity with one another.
Try to talk with people rather than at them. Try to think about how to compromise and bargain with others rather than proselytize your beliefs and preconceived notions. It's a good idea to look at statistics and objective facts obviously, but it's one thing to look at a few statistics and take them at face value while it's another thing to look at a few statistics and make broad sweeping assumptions about the reality of an entire populace of individuals and their complex lives.
If you think antisemitism is real and worth being cautious of, then I don't see a reason why we should deny the issue of anti Black racism, if that's what you're trying to do? Also, I can understand the trend of race relations getting worse, but do you sincerely think that there was really a time when race relations were actually "good" from the average Black perspective? What do you mean by "good" exactly?

    • @DadSavesAmerica
      @DadSavesAmerica  8 місяців тому +2

I actually agree with you in that these are the final fleeting images. The two families find common cause in the horror subtly in the end. The warning surely IS that we are at risk by being polarized.
But the overall tone and messages from the characters is not positive for where we are as a people. The warning is rooted in a vision of divisiveness that is largely an elite media construction. We're not as divided as this movie's producers think we are (and have made us out to be).
The moments of redemption and reflection don't change the overall assessment of humanity and America that is the film. So that's what I focused on here. But you have a point.

    • @dennisharrell2236
      @dennisharrell2236 8 місяців тому

@DadSavesAmerica BS. Divisiveness is the point of everything done by the fringe right. The standard Fox formula, that they've been following for decades, is that anything said or done by any Democrat President must be spun into the worst, most un-American thing ever seen. Fox owns the Republican base, and the lies Fox is currently spewing non-stop are designed to incite civil war. So don't pretend that divisiveness is being fomented by Democrats.
