William Sidebottom looks much older then 2003 but do keep in mind most older videos are at this quality and in 2003 there we’re even some unreferbished comengs still around (that was the year they finished the project of refurbishment
The mixture of different kinds of signals that a single line in Melbourne's network could have always interested me. The semaphores look quite different from what I've seen in Geelong, Wallan, and the Hurstbridge line. Wish they were still around. The same signal masts are still used to this day, but they're all LED signals now.
This is absolutely amazing. Hitachis, Semaphore Signals, Safetran Mechanical Bells, Teardrops, the list goes on.
Wow, talk about a bygone era! Handgates, teardrops, safetran mechanical bells, semaphores, black and white boomgates, hazard triangles, hitachis
Such great footage.. wouldn't it be great if we could go back to this era
I grew up in Hampton 1974/1996 a lovely place I have fond memories.
Looks more like 1993 than 2003
Trains still had that livery in 2003

the sandy line's always been a bit behind the rest of the network

Sad we have lost these trains 😅
This is so nostalgic
Great videos!
I love Hitachi trains
If I had a time machine I would so go back to early 80s spencer street station
QuebeC VR and I would go to spencer street (southern cross) In 2006
For some reason, this train reminded me from the movie "Knowing".
How is it that we replaced Hitachi's that had airbag suspension with X-Traps that have springs...
Privatisation, that's how
The boom gate noise is the drums
lovely job mate, hope to see more in the future.
semaphores and mechanical bells are history too
Just a memory now
this is great! do you have any more train videos from 03 ?
Sure, i have other footage and i'm going to edit some soon. Suggest you subscibe to my channel and stay tuned
Hitachi Trains is Years 40 Old
one question, why do Hitachi trains have those stripes on the face?
Most likely to improve visibility for motorists since Melbourne has lots of level crossings
That was there livery back then mate.
the met hitachi

The new Southern Cross is better
