What a beautifully written and authentic movie. Thank you my cross Tasman cousins for showing us how disaster movies should be made. No Hollywood bravado, just real people and real stories.
The elderly woman in 36:52 is such a warmhearted, lovely soul. Truly a kind of woman, the world needs, the supportive kind who provide some TLC. Cheers!
She felt my Nana for the movie duration :) Stoic, resilient and real.
I watched this movie just a few days after those horrific earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. It just broke my heart!!!!!!! It's an excellent movie, kind of documentary, that's why you identify with the characters so much!!!!!! I' m devastated by the magnitude of disaster some people are destined to experience!!!!!!!😥😥😥😥
Truth. Sadness. Tears. Bravery. Hope. Hopeless. Love. All in one.
I’m from Porirua and didn’t expected this to take place in the capital of NZ! I’m glad our country is getting some disaster movies considering they’re my fav type of movie
This is a remarkable movie with excellent actors. I'm in awe. 😮
Absolutely worth watching, so much better than Hollywood style. 🎉
The people look real, just normal people going about their day before everything went wrong. Their reactions were all so genuine, no great heros, no super villians. The scene at the pharmacy was heartbreaking. That office was so tragic. And the people running the distaster relief, especiall the lady, were so admirable. It felt like a documentary and a horrible memory at the same time. Totally genuine.
One of These Days This Going To Happen To Whole World 🌎 !!! No Body is Prepared To What's This Movie Is Showing US ALL !!!!
Kaikoura 2016 7.8 earthquake was enough for me!... I thought I was going to die!... thanks from Wgtn👍🇳🇿
I love disaster movies and this is, hands down, the best I've seen. It was about an earthquake and the "Aftershocks" and that is exactly what it was, not a love story, no little subplots other than what happens with the people throughout. Very well acted and realistic! Thank you, I wish they were all up to your talents!
Excellent film. I experienced Sylmar quake in 1971 and Loma Prieta quake in San Francisco area in 1989. I was in safe places both times, but surrounded by injuries, death, and incredible property damage. All I can say is this... think about what you will do in a major disaster event..., plan ahead, always have minimal preparation in place (water, warmth, pharmaceuticals)
Some sage advice there my friend. I am sorry you had to experience these things. I hope you pass on your good advice to as many as you can.
Best of the disaster movies I have watched so far, by miles. And I have been watching lots. The New Zealanders really did a great job and the regular disaster movie makes should take note on how to do a better job. I thought all the actors were amazing and overall everything was superb and it made me feel I was there, thankfully I wasn't.
I have acelebrity freind who was in the Northridge Quake on 31.1.94,it destroyed his home at 4.31am,he lived in Sutton Place,Sherman Oaks,California at the time.He said he smelt gas so he found all the flashlights and went and turned off the gas and resciue his dogs who were trapped in the kitchen,he managed to get out uninjured with his wife and baby daughter and his dogs at the time. After making certain everyone was okay,he went to help his neighbours before he and his family went to live in the Beverly Hills Hotel for 6 months while his home was repaired, his animals went to live with other family members for 6 months. He said in an interveiw some time later that itcost him five million dollars to get that house fixed. After the house was fixed they lived there while they looked for another home elsewhere, eventually they found a nice home in Encino in California, where he lived from 1996 to 2013 before moving to Calabasass in 2013 to a smaller home which is where he lives now.
I lived in Los Angeles close to where the 10 freeway collapsed. Every building in our neighborhood was red-tagged and condemned from the damage. I don't know what the ground is made up of in that neighborhood but our building shook so hard that my new husband and I genuinely thought we were going to die. I'd been in a M7.1 earthquake before but that one was terrifying!
I was in the Northridge quake also, but you said one thing wrong. The earthquake was on
Jan. 17th 1994, NOT 1.31.94. It was a Monday morning, a holiday, Martin Luther Kings birthday. Yes, it hit at exactly 4:31am. It threw me from my bed and around a corner. I’ve lived in Los Angeles all of my life, so I’ve been thru many quakes, but the Northridge quake was the strongest, most violent quake I have ever experienced! Earthquakes usually move from side to side, but Northridge shook back and forth AND up and down! My home was destroyed. And now, 30 years later, we are way overdue for a big quake! This is why I can’t sleep naked.😂 True! I know it sounds silly. Anyway, I don’t know where you live, but I wouldn’t wish an earthquake on you, or anyone reading this. Stay safe.😊
I remember that quake. Threw me out of bed!
A remarkable movie. Presents like a documentary. Very disturbing, realistic and heartbreaking. Excellent job.
The Best of Kiwi Acting. Well written and beautifully executed.
It's really weird seeing how realistic this is and comparing it to my experiences when I was involved in the middle of the 2010 - 2011 Christchurch Earthquakes.
This is a really great movie
Is it based on christchurch earthquake?
@@vinzoymc2233 No, but this was aired just 2 years before the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence began on the 4th of September 2010, this would eventually lead to the earthquake on Tuesday 22nd February 2011
Oh
Good movie and realistic.. way better than some USA hyped ones..
This is an excellent movie, well acted by all concerned. It really gives you a sense of being there! Well worth watching,
This is a very good movie. Thank you for posting.
This movie… very well done! Pretty much had you after the first few min. Worth the watch… more then once!
Gritty, realistic, not sugar-coated. I knew right as soon as the quake hit that the s ript was written by informed writers because workers were dodging under tables, the correct action. Another earthquake movie I recently watched had the main characters jumping onto their huge bed situated next to a a floor to ceiling plate glass window- a script written by the clueless. Job well done on this movie. Thanks.
The sad thing is that there are probably people who would do exactly that in their panic. :-(
ol
no good be goodd
The more we know the better we can react. Great comment!
This should be a Sci Fi/Thriller Movie. This would be a good prediction of wellingtons future for the next hundred years.
Wow! A realistic depiction of a cataclysmic event plus government failure to respond accordingly (Katrina 😉) equals a great movie!
So much better than the Great LA Earthquake. I asked Ed Begley why it took so long to get to the earthquake, even he had no idea. This is so much more genuine.
One great film,well done
Well done guys. I lived In Wellington for several years out at Whitby and felt a few tremors while there. Apparently we were living right on top of a fault line. EEEEK.... I think this portrays the dangers and how we should always be prepared to do what we can should this ever arise, and it will, oneday. Take care everyone.
Oh the dog as a heater 🐶🐕😉
Moving, with a few surprises - and very well written and acted.
Excellent movie. Thank you.
Very realistic, wonderful script and acting!
Really good. Held my interest throughout and I'm a disaster movie fan.
So sad for New Zealand Steve Australia 😭😭
I really need to watch something light hearted. I've been balling all damn morning. First with The Diary of Anne Frank, now this.
Good movie. It’s going to happen one day . That’s why I’m getting ready.
You and friends, family, colleagues, neigbours (even that jerk neighbour if you unfortunately have one) I hope :)
Excellent movie -lots to learn
watching from Philippines we just had a 7.3 magnitude earthquake July 27
It wasn't until I found the release date that I realised this film pre-dates the 2010 and the 2011 earthquakes in Christchurch/Canterbury by just over 2 years.
Most interesting disaster movie I've seen. FF through a few of the "town meetings" and "special reports", but different to see it all played out.
Enjoyed this. Thanks 👍
Good movie. Thanks
This movie is definitely worth watching.
Excellent film !
This was good 👍. It had a good story and acting. The story is very realistic, as sad as it was. 👍❤
Very realistic and well done all around. Enjoyed it very much. Thanks for loading up.
Not sure why but searched this film to watch again after a thought to do so yesterday. Get your water and food and meds in order pep's and be nice to others like all those awesome women. maybe give your boss a slap tho.
I would totaly buy this on DVD, but here in Germany there doesn't seem to be one!?
Probably wasn't released here, or it was, but with a different title... 🤔
Quite well done!
This was truly amazing, it all felt so real. And through all the tragedy and heartache I found myself just focused on Einstein the dog, and that he would make it, thats how real it felt, I had to focus on the dog to cope. Still a bit broken, that we didnt get an ending for him, hopefully the kind old lady, we last saw him with, took care of him.
Great movie!
Beautiful movie 🥰🥰
大好きな映画なので観られてよかったです!ごちそうさまでした
Excellent film.
Good One. Thanks.
This place seems to be a nice forum to again emphasise the importance of being ready. Nice to see international viewers commenting on and providing their own experiences, thank you for your stories. Yes there is a lot of swearing, it happens to the best of us in the worst times. If bad words are your worst concern, I am truly glad you are comfortable enough in your life that, that is your bugbear.
I went to Japan - never felt a quake. Got back to UK (where Earthquakes are tiny) to feel a 5.2. Scared the crap out of me. I'm so grateful that I live in UK where we can't feel them (we actually have about 3, 000 per year, most are tiny).
Love this kind of movie.
This movie was great I would definitely say it's worth a watch, unless your one of those young grandma's who don't like movies with cussing!
And who doesn't like a good old action with CUSSING (not saying this was a action) imagine not liking movies with bad language ha couldn't be me😂
Exactly the movie is realistic and good I don’t understand how there are people that would rather watch a horrible movie with no cussing than a good movie with medium cussing but I guess everyone has their own opinion
The movie cussing was comparable to queens english describing a nice day while having having cucumber sandwiches and tea vs how i would be talking. My cussing would be something akin to trying to eat a cold half cooked sausage in a slice of bread with no butter getting soggy from some warehouse tomato sauce on windy Island bay beach and it had just been grabbed from my hand and eaten by a seagull. eg f***ing c*** you dinosaur genetic leftover feathered eagle wanna be c*** sucker... etc
Aftershock emergency military
very realistic did enjoy thank you
Good human drama. Good acting.
I love these disasters movies
2006, I was about 5 grade middle schoolers... when an earthquake struck yogyakarta Indonesia... not so big but the damage caused was moderate. If not wrong it's 5,9 richter scale.
Powers out & gas/fuel pumps out. Lucky us food, water, some candlelight still available, some house still stand (my house too, it just bit crack and some rack made of glass shattered). Tsunami...., well some bad guy made hoax about them, some article says earthquake that triggers tsunami at least has 7 richter scale. So I knew it's hoax if just 5,9....
Not as big as this movie but that experience cannot be forgotten.
Ku suka akting nya si kecil
“…I can’t move my legs?”
Woman: “ Well, stay were u r for now.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂. That’s like my son waking me up this morning to let me know we had to be quiet cause dad had a phone meeting. 😂😂😂😂. Love it. Good actors just the same.
I m from india its very super duper movie ❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome 👌 acting Awesome film who needs Hollywood
Agreed. Watched the Great Los Angeles Earthquake. Okay, but not as genuine and moving as this.

Yup. Don’t laugh too hard. 2023, we in California, San Diego not exception, still waiting for it, the big one! Sadly but truly, everyone knows about it, everyone is expecting it, but absolutely no ones is preparing for it nor knows what to do if it strikes!
