When Ferguson was playing for Everton the standard in the PL was pretty bad beyond the top 2 teams. The European ban really damaged the development of homegrown players and the best foreign players preferred in Spain or Italy even France. The idea that football was better because knee high tackles were allowed is a really silly argument.
He was really skilled, had pace, excellent at getting the ball and pretty much unbeatable in the air, don't think you have watched him play, just the odd clip here or there.
