Thank you thank you thabk you!!! I spent 3 hours reading and trying to understand all this until i found your video and you made it clear in 10 minutes!
swing phase is initiated by the hip flexors, once it is "started" gravity kicks in and takes over until just prior to heel strike--then your extensors and abductors turn on (eccentrically) to control the leg. Hip flexors pull your hip forward and up, marching while standing, knee to chest when lying down
I hope you got PT after your surgery? The main muscles at push-off are your plantarflexors in your foot (heel raises) and your extensors, hip extensors, quads (squats)
I hope not too, but be because it is a possibility I would really encourage you to see somebody. You may want to try the same motions in a different position, on your back or on your side ( one leg at a time that way) and see what happens. Good luck
Thank you, I very much enjoyed your video. Do you perhaps know, where might I find a quantified or otherwise recorded description of the muscle activity during normal gait? I am interested more in the activity of the upper leg or knee, potentially the hip also, so as to assess the normality or otherwise of results of gait analysis and become familiar with normal muscle activation in gait? I would be very grateful as it would further my research efforts in this area. Thank you again.
after doing just a handful of marching in place steps, i have a very hard time lifting my feet to walk and my hip flexors feel 'burned out' and slightly numb. how can i get around this to strengthen my gait? thank you.
Hi at the moment I can't walk normally due to tightness and spasm pain in the lower back. The only way I can walk is to put left leg and foot forward then I drag the right leg forward instead of a natural swing any ideas? If I get out of bed first thing in the morning I can walk normally til i get going
I share your problem mac, I am curious about the back muscles involved in walking, in particular, what are the bands of muscles that run on each side of the lower spine and fire alternatively with each step? Can gate be changed to relieve stress on one or the other of these?
since having L4/5 fusion, my leg falters during the pushoff phase, and i feel like i might fall forward. can you tell me what muscles need strengthening? thanks.
This is great information, but i wonder if your muscle activation would change if your were to strike the ground on the balls of your foot instead of with your heel since the heel strike is a less effiecient method used to run that also leads to a lot of injuries.

thank you, you do a lovely job of explaining the motions of gait and involvement.
Phenomenally explained! Beautiful job
Lovely explaining, very helpful, thank you!
helpful but all over the place, would have been simpler to do each stage separately

Thank you for videos. God bless you. Thank you Lord for this video
This is really helpful. Thank you so much.

i really appreciate your help.

what about eccentric / concentric movement from the knee joint?
thank you very much.
i'm vietnamese and i thank you very much
I am NOT making a medical diagnosis but what you are describing are nerve damage symt
thanks, again.
Sorry posted that before I wanted do--weakness and numbness are common signs of nerve damage--you really need a medical work-up
oh, i hope not! thanks.

can i ask the same question, regarding the swing phase? thanks, again.
