I don’t know much about my family history but I found out my mothers lineage came into America through South Carolina. I took a dna test and found out I descended from Sierra Leone Temne tribe.
I thought it was slaves from north Carolina, south Carolina, Georgia , and Florida. Gullah/ Geechee runaways joined with Seminoles in Spanish Florida. Pushed further in Mexico where many are today. During the Indian land removal some came back to the states to live in reservations. While many Black Seminoles stayed in Mexico where they are called Mascogos. Many also went to Sierra Leone and became Krio. Many also went to the Bahamas. Bahamian Creole is the same as sea island Creole. Those of Gullah/Geechee descent. Mascogos of Mexico, Krio of Sierra Leone, Bahamian of the Bahamas, Black Seminoles of the United States (not freedman), and Gullah/Geechee of the United States. Countries descendants live today. United States, Mexico, Bahamas, and Sierra Leone
What defines a a verifiable gullah-geechee person and who all would fit in to this demographic. I'm asking because when I hear people use the term it sounds like a catch-all for any one from the coastal region or has family that comes from the coastal region. That would Encompass a large group of people..
Lashon it is. But remember that when the Carolina's was established in 1670 it included South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia before they were divided into separate states decades later. Both South Carolina and Georgia ports opened up exclusively for rice production and both states had majority African population in the late.1700's. Although Africans from both west and central Africa was enslaved in that area, the Gola and Gizzie tribes from Sierra Leone Liberia leaving from Bunce Island was among the most skilled in agriculture particularly rice production which was the number one cash crop of the Americas, and was the catalyst for the colonies of America to fight British for Independence. The enslaved Africans coming from Sierra Leone dominated other ethnic groups from other countries hence, the Gola/Gullah and the Gizzie/Geechee being the seed group for the ethnic route today known as the Gullah Geechee which origins are in Sierra Leone in Liberia respectively. Every ethnic group that exist starts the same way, it takes a more advanced group, that migrates and lesser groups assimilate into the more dominant group, forming a modern ethnicity. Sierra Leone and Gullah Geechee almost mirror each other in language, Customs, Traditions Etc.

Hi, Geechee are Americans 🇺🇸, Gullah are Africans.
No. Both Gullah and Geechee both derive from African tribes in Sierra Leone and Liberia Gola/Gizzie.
