I’ve been a nanny for the past 5 years, and have 10+ years of babysitting experience. Both families I’ve worked for have been high profile families. Experience matters so much. I don’t get paid nearly enough what I should be getting paid, but I love the children so much. The family I work with now, are amazing. They’ve given me more than 80 hrs paid vacation, I’m almost to a month of paid time off. For my birthday, they bought every single item on my Amazon wish list. I’m on salary, and get benefits. I love my job, it’s extremely difficult but so rewarding.

Nannies deserve a living wage, and one that is compatible with their experience and education. Babysitting teenagers and college students make up to 18 dollars hourly. Also, professional nannies are not housekeepers. Make no mistake, nannies have boundaries also.

I agree! It's mind boggling her attitude about pay for a qualified nanny. Your child is a better investment than any luxury car or home you have. Priorities are messed up here. I'm sure she has expensive shoes and handbags purchased without a care in the world of cost but is acting as if paying for a credible nanny is crazy.

@Mary L. K. Massey I also get the feeling that she is an extreme helicopter, and have multiple family in the house doing the same thing. Underpaid Nannies will move on. She has a right to her parenting style being honored. However she needs to be honest at the interviews to see if it is a good fit for both.

@@yasminmansur6834 the annual CPI calculations do not include food & fuel and many other things people need to use DAILY. this has been the inexcusable practice of the US government for years. and these are the numbers that determine MANY things, including but not limited to the annual 'increase' in social security payments [retirement, disability, retired rail road workers benefits, veteran's benefits....] as well as the monthly & annual 'rate' of inflation.
ALL of these numbers are recklessly, irresponsibly undercalculated EVERY year. and they numbers were so bad THIS past year that Jerome Powell announced, earlier this year [of course not sharing the real reason] that they were going to reorder how the CPI was calculated..because even if they did it the same way as before, inflation numbers would be so high that the majority of citizens would be in an uproar.
the purchasing power of the US dollar & ALL fiat currency DECREASES near daily & definitely monthly & annually. there's just NO EXCUSE for the wealthy of the world to lowball a nanny. the person who will help keep their child safe, secure & ideally happy. the same person who spends FAR MORE WAKING HOURS with their babies and children than the mother AND father do. it's *sickening* that anyone RICH would want to underpay a nanny.

I usually let them know it's one or the other. Some people take the jobs anyway and become resentful. You don't want anyone resentful taking care of your children. Always pay more to anyone in care of your children. You can't bargain on that ever.

It's so crazy to me that parents want to pay so little but ask so much of babysitters and nannies. You do get what you pay for, as Jeannies first example. So if you want a good babysitters or nanny, pay them well and give them respect and communication as a person. They are your teammates, not your slave. Some parents want you to do everything while they have an attitude and don't do anything. If it belongs to the child and they used it while I was there, it gets cleaned. If not, it does not. Our overall concern is your child's safety and well being that is what we are hired for. Also, if you put all the responsibility on your nannies to meet your child's needs, don't be surprised when your child is more attached to them. Quality time and meeting your childs needs is how you build bonds with them don't miss out on those opportunities when you can.

Unfortunately a nanny is not a housekeeper. If someone needs someone who does both extensively you must specify that that is what you are looking for. I have worked for the most families of anyone out there, over 180, estimated over 350 children all ages, long/term, short-term, last minute, Disney help, high profile plus much more. I have 90+ 5-star reviews and have spoken to literally hundreds of families across mostly SoCal and Central FL over 10 years. Yes, it actually is a “side” thing for me though. I also have a degree in economics, caused the second Space Jam movie to get renamed from
“Space Jam 2”(back in 2019)…and have lots of opinions and facts on this topic. Lol Versatile. ✨ I LOVE the families I have helped and it has made me a better person in standing up for myself and I am very good at discussing money and turning down things. 😂

  • @DiandraStarShine
    @DiandraStarShine Рік тому +4

to the WEALTHY: PLEASE hire a nanny AND a housekeeper. *please* don't expect your NANNY to clean your house, too! baby laundry & cleaning up after the baby, YES. but DON'T expect your NANNY to clean UP after everyone in the house [even IF the baby is at a sleeping a lot stage].
so many employers of domestic workers wonder why they have such a high employee turnover. this isn't 1899 & as that nanny business owner said when she was EDUCATING Jeannie about modern times & how many nannies have a formal education in relevant fees [& we all know a lot of wealthy people want to hire undocumented workers but even THEY should be treated with dignity].
it's the 2020's. they'll get much more 'mileage' out of their employees IF they're thoughtful enough to give each employee a professional focus vs. trying to squeeze every ounce of energy out of them *just because.* and what's even MORE ideal is if RICH people hire TWO nannies to job share (so they don't have to, at the last minute, have to scramble to find someone TRUSTWORTHY to substitute temporarily or sometimes permanently.
some years ago a trust-funder I worked for actually had 3 of us - who he got to know well - on the payroll BECAUSE he could EASILY AFFORD IT and he believed his child was WORTH every dollar of such a service...so, he paid us GENEROUSLY to share the job. 2 of us had the lion's share of the hours & the 3rd person was very part time and also a substitute. point being that it's always possible with patience, to find the right mixture of hours, etc.
and we all had each other's phone numbers and would work in place of one another when needed, he trusted us to work things out if he wasn't available. and of course, AGAIN, that's something only wealthy people can afford to do..but that MEANS that, indeed, NOT the average adult but a *wealthy person/couple CAN AT LEAST* afford to hire a nanny AND a housekeeper.and NO reason not to when they're *RICH,* other than assumptions, selfish thoughtlessness & greed.
and this means EVEN IF she's a *live-in* nanny - because it's a service provided by an ADULT who does not deserve to be told what her own budget should be by an employer. in other words, just because a parent provides them a room or a cottage does NOT mean they should be in a nanny's financial business. like in the old days when employers got away, legally, by justifying paying women LESS than men who did the EXACT SAME JOB [whish is still an issue, btw].
but she is not a indentured servant OR a slave, she is an ADULT with her own private life & expenses that are not an employers business. yet so MANY employers assume treating nannies like children and they want to DEDUCT from her salary what, in *their* minds, would be the value of a room or a cottage they provide.
*NO,* better to keep it 'clean' & pay her an adult nanny salary or wage. because, for example, most students have a LOT of college/uni debt and for all the *parents* do NOT know, a nanny might look for a live-in situation BECAUSE her student loan payments are huge..and a provided room or cottage or apartment might not even come CLOSE to shaving off her expenses as much as would be ideal. but again, whatever her expenses/financial goals or plans, it's none of a parent's business, just PAY the nanny fairly & well..and all potential employers should look up the CURRENT & REAL & FAIR financial value of what a FULL TIME MOTHER does, what SHE would be earning if she was instead a nanny. because full time nannies spend far more of a baby or child's waking hours with their charges than a biological mother does, FACT. they 100% affect a child's formative years, as well. but so many WEALTHY parents want to go CHEAP on a nanny? just smdh.
because why would ANYONE, who can easily afford it, *go* the cheap route when it comes to making sure their babies & children are cared for by trustworthy people? why would a *wealthy person* want their nanny to struggle financially or be worn out?? [again, wealthy employers, they should also KNOW the REAL cost of living and about REAL inflation AND the constantly DECREASING PURCHASING POWER of the US DOLLAR - and all other traditional fiat currency and how it MOSTLY affects the middle class & the impoverished.
they should ALSO know that the annual USA CPI calculations, LITERALLY, do NOT include - among many other things - FOOD or FUEL! and who lives without food & fuel/transportation, heat, cooking, etc. but even THESE expenses covered are NOT enough for a poor or middle class person to live decently BECAUSE official inflation numbers are NOT accurate - and NOT only because of the dishonest CPI numbers..which Social Security [retirement, disability, veteran's benefits, retired railroad workers benefits] are based on. people who have worked all their lives and/or are disabled.
but again, the working poor & middle class are ALSO greatly affected SO the wealthiest people should NOT be so cheap re: nannies or any other domestic worker.
outside of the rare crazy nanny situation, generosity leads to much better outcomes than being a cheapskate..& I say that because of Jeannie's shocked & chagrined reaction when she got educated about what a reasonable salary or wage is for, esp., a well educated nanny. but even one who has experience who is NOT formally educated should be appreciated and paid a livable wage/salary. so, besides re: being a good caregiver + the ACTUAL COST OF LIVING, nannies deserved to be respected & cared for & appreciated..and one of the ways to demonstrate that is to NOT be resentful of what they should be getting PAID. I mean just what, to RICH parents specifically, is their child's safety, security & happiness worth?

House chores? Don't use the label nanny. Nanny's are strictly childcare and all that applies to the child or children attending to. Cleaning up after you or other house guest isn't a nanny's job. You're looking for more than a nanny. Or your wanting to hire someone have them do more and only pay for the nanny position.

Respectfully, there are a lot of assumptions here. I've had providers who would leave my house in a wreck because I didn't specify light chores in my advertisement. They'd make a mess of the kitchen, playroom, and kids' bathrooms/bedroom while caring for my kids, and I'd be left to clean it all up. I don't expect anyone to clean after me or my husband, but I had to ask for light chores to get them to clean up after themselves.

Babies/toddler intuition is on a different level. My daughter has always been a people person. She loves interacting and meeting new people. If you come with treats or toys then she's your best friend forever.... just don't pick her up or make it look like your going to pick her up, without her permission (she will disown you). One day I went out looking for daycares. We had an appointment with this one facility. We walked into that daycare and my daughter's personality 100% changed. The 1 year old that was sitting in that stroller was not my daughter. She didn't speak to anybody, she didn't want to get out the stroller, she didn't care about the toys, she didn't give high fives to the owner. She sat in that stroller like a statue.. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!! We left that daycare in our rear view mirror. That was one strange experience.

Also, I agree with the other messages when they say nannies are not housekeepers, servants or chefs. Nanny's take care of the children's needs( food, playing with them, teaching them etc.) I do not understand that when people have the money to pay a good wage for nanny's they don't want too but yet expect them to do everything. Some people would rather spend more $$$ on material things than on care for their precious children. You get what you pay for.

Why do so many people judge moms? As she very openly proclaims she is a first time mom educating herself (and her viewers) on a variety of new topics. I think she’s doing a great job and takes the time to research and understand everything her daugther needs.

It did for me, but I kept and still keep God first. I am a mother and I learned to not fight the feeling of being a protective mother that only wants my child to be cared for without a doubt with respect. I had to take self out of it because I was very selfish and by me working from home I kept my child until a few months ago when he started daycare with a family friend that has an in home daycare. Long story short after my divorce from my son’s father that even added more stress to me because I couldn’t control who his father would have him around that I didn’t approve of. I top of my son having a speech delay, I stay prayed up and I know that the only reason now everything is better for me is because I am obedient to God, I know when God is involved whatever is meant to be will happen so easily and you’ll be tested to grow your trust and strength through God, and of course a lot of praying. I still do not allow my son to be kept by certain people and I communicate very respectfully to his father that please know that I pray for our son’s protection from God. God is in control, you got this mom. Congrats on becoming a mother, and keep pushing God is right there with you and I will say this when I was married and found out I was pregnant I began to pray over my son and I began to let God know that my son is just mine to borrow and so am I as being his mother but I know God will forever be right there with us no matter what comes our way. I still always worry about my son, but that’s the mother in me. Don’t be hard on yourself, God will make it very clear who and who not to have your child around no matter who they are. 🙏 praying for you this helps

I am a mother of 3 adolescents (my subscription is thru my son’s account). Be careful with family members. With my first child I jumped from different family members. Not everyone has the same interest as the mother. My personal suggestion is to not only go with someone with experience but investigate questions to ask (internet, other friends and families that have had care takers, etc) write them down so you don’t forget to ask. If in your home put cameras. If at daycare place talk to other mothers that also go there and get their comments on their experience. It’s the hardest when your kids are so little and still not talking cuz they can’t tell you what happened. Don’t feel bad asking too many questions….that’s your child. You’ll feel it when you have the right person . If you have a bad gut feeling a certain person isn’t right then go with your gut. Also, don’t put your guard down once the person is picked and you have a routine. I’m not saying to be over protective, just alert and involved. You’ll be alright. Hugs 🤗. - Victoria

I was a caught off guard and disturbed that you believed 30-35$ an hour is a lot of money for someone who is helping your child form who they are. They should be getting a good fair hourly rate. Now the nanny should get a good fair Salary. 🙏🏼❤️☺️This was a great video! Oh! If your friend is a nanny she’s charging too cheap! It was a very stupid reaction. If you think about it: what it´s the most important in the world for her and this nanny will take care of her. How much does Jeannie make an hour? why would her making that much is ok and not 35 for the nanny. We are very selfish. Any body taking care of my baby should be making good money.
