I've had an XU4 for many years now, and it's still a great board for retro gaming. Earlier this year, I changed the frontend to Batocera, and N64 and Dreamcast games run much smoother that the older frontend I had.
Controller-wise, on my XU4, I have been using the Logitech F310 (wired) and it has been my go-to controller for years.
I'm still using an XU4 in 2022. It's not dated, it's matured.
Always my birthday when you post a video still recovering after yesterday 😵💫😵💫😵💫 big football state where I live ✌️ from Beautiful East Tennessee
Ahoy and thanks for the review. I used to run my XU4 with recalbox OS and it worked weli. It also worked well with Android TV V7.1.2 Just one small correction: the Samsung Exynos in the XU4 is an Octacore with 4xA15 at 2.0ghz and 4xA7 at 1.4ghz. It flew in its day and can still compete. I watch you daily on my Tanix TX3 S905X3 TV Box and my 55" TV. But I Retrogame on an Intel J1900 system with Batocera. Sincerely, daveyb
Such a shame as this system doesn't come cheap unless you shop around for a single board but you still need a power supply & case as Odroid SBCs tend to get hot. Thanks for spending the $$$ to make another awesome video!
PS Would you recommend the N2+ over the XU4 as an Emulator as each have their limitations yet the N2+ seems to be more popular...?
My thoughts are the same as I've repeated all year...this Odroid XU4 is one of the best choices since RaspberryPi is unobtainable...that is unless you're willing to pay 150 dollars plus...this is as powerful if not more so than RPi4 but just doesn't have the community support or software optimised to its capabilities...same with OrangePi and other less known SBC's...if you're willing to spend a lot of time on this maybe it can be improved...but it's not for the casual retro gamer...better off with a higher end Android box like ETAPrime shows every week and you Wicked sometimes...or some other mini PC...this is fine up to Playstation...and as you mention ok for Dreamcast PSP N64 2D games...at least it's available as far as I know...I stick with my few year old RPi3b and just play up to SFC and Advance...I've added a mini PSX to my collection for those games
Batocera ?
Godfather of Packages from China
Wicked thanks for starting my morning in NY with a package from China let’s take a look at this emulation box does the trick but it doesn’t run gen 6 or later
I'm stepping away from android boxes and bought a nvidia shield tv 🤡.
Odroid has some interesting boards, but apart from the go i never bought one
I love my N64 style case for my XU4
The XU4 was a major disappointment for me. I had audio problems with my TV and so many graphical glitches. It was definitely ahead of the competition regarding the power and price point, but with them issues. Nah.
Download a good image and your good
I had the same problem. I love the XU4, but every OS that supports it was ported in 5 minutes and no one tested any of them. Retropie, recalbox, batocera- each one had weird issues… now it sits on a shelf. Disappointed.
Same here. Channels like ETAprime said it would get continued dedicated support, but all I could find were the same giant piPiggies images that were all flawed.
Retro Arena might work.
@@Pridetoons Retro Arena worked the best. Had problems getting the common chinese USB N64clone controllers to work - which sucks because it was the first SBC to have very high N64 functionality and came in a damn N64 clone case.
I bought my from Korea 4 years ago still works i use with N64 case, the only negative thing is the usb 3 stopped to work, no had any problem with controller, but i install the system and configured by myself
It's still pretty awesome
What’s the best version in 2024?
Could you do a top 10 suggestions for which plug and play box is best to build a custom arcade around? (Something with sanwa buttons) I used Pandora box DX but I'm not sure it was the best choice.
Yes let me put it on the idea list.
Thanks for your comment.
Have you reviewed the Hyperkin consoles before? They have a really cool one with Fami/S.Fami, S/NES, Gen, GBA & GB/C all-in-one. Built in Game Genie too. For $180 (US)
I own a xu4 and regret it. Why? Very little support. Everything that was ported to it has issues that will never be fixed. I wont make the mistake of picking a non mainstream chip in the future. Thats why i only use x86 computers now.
I bought one of these overall negative. First the control scheme for many of the games were not good. Second the emus were also not good as well. Sure the earlier systems worked fine that is to be expected but some of the later ones..... wow
Which one would you recommend up to 200$, which is better than others
With 200 you can buy a lot of interesting android boxes.
With PC there we do get a different story.
Depends all what you like to play in the end
@@WickedGamerCollector just sn, ps1, n64 games. Was looking for console x pro but I would reather have your opinion :) ty
Not really, Mini PC now days more powerful and more cheaper than this.
Depends on the chipset and built in gpu for compatibility. But a wii is a little monster for retro games once modded. If you look hard enough you could probably still find one for 10$
Yeah...mini pcs for 50 bucks are so much better and a million times more.compatible
I can definitely notice when you are not as excited about your package from China. Could you please do a video that is advising your audience on what we should get if we were to buy something from AliExpress? I want a little retro game emulator but I don't know if I just want that little pal Kitty handheld I think I'd like to plug up to my TV like this but I want all of the games like you say all the Retro stuffs what would be the best option? I know that's a question to answer but please make a video with advice not just reviewing each little thing
I have one of these , but the supplied SD card is very poor. I would need to spend 130 pounds for new one or download a 500GB torrent.
,My Beelink plays everything up to PSP anyway but , I would like to play this
Saturn is a real bummer here, IMO it's the biggest selling point and will really disappoint buyers.
Ps2 as well?
What is the theme used ?
Lakka runs emulators best on this system. Ive had no issues with my controllers, and i think psp ran well.
Maybe you have to reconfigure the controller again when you have problems.
Did that 4 times with different controllers.
Weird thing was when I was in the frontend no problems.
Getting in to the emulators some weird problem it doesn't see it.
Only with PPSSPP did not have this problem... so weird.
Somebody know if the odroid xu4 work with power supple 5v 3a? Because in my country dont find 5v 4a. And with 5v 2a work 10 second and restart over and over again.
you can try the 3amp ... only maybe it will give problems to 😳
👍👍
I think that's the first time I seen dolphin blue without any little hickups 🙏🏽👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
The chicken has spoken.
Is it worth it? For €350: Absolutely not!
XU4 was introduced back in 2015. I do not know the MSRP back then, but as of 16.10.2022: NEE!📢📢📢
Addendum: MK II emulation lacks character shadows. This is frequent.
Hey man! Love your videos thank you! I have an xu4 with an old version of emuelec and can't even play it now because I can't get any controller to work! So annoying! Even when I plug in a controller it won't recognise it. Been using ps4 controllers. If I buy a new wired controller like the ones people have suggested here is it likely to recognise it or am I just wasting my money? 🤔
